Prepar3D v2.5 Development Update

Featured Replies

With a high end computer, FSX is very much out the door for me. I do have it installed for the occasional multiplayer with my non pilot friends. I am happy to see simdirector being developed. To me, the ideal P3D would have hundreds of scenarios built in or downloadable, so that students can go in attempt them. Sort of like the missions FSX had, but less arcade like.

I guess I am less of a hobby user and more of a training purposes user, but that is my take on it.

I would really like to see SLI figured out. Smooth frame rates improves the simulation experience. I feel like this should be a priority.

Well, it's just normal that they develop training specific tool after several update targeting general improvements. This is clearly the mission of this product and they need to put priority somewhere. Each of us have a short list of priority and I have mines that differs from the others ones mentionned by fellow simmers above. P3D they cannot please everyone.

But overall, I remember very well the many years without any base FSX Development and I'm still satisfied with the last years progress.

P3D when its freezing in Quebec....well, that's most of the time...

I am not sure how the content of a single update proves a long-term divergence in development. Personally, I'm just glad to have access to a sim in-development.

Sometimes I think the sky is perpetually falling over here.

Edit: gmoney - I didn't intend to imply you think the sky is falling. Just a general comment.

I'm glad you edited your comment. Not only do I not believe the sky is not falling but you projected your own perspective onto my comment...

Doesn't prove it by any means, but the focus on Sim Director and lack of a patch does suggest that they may be thinking more about professional users with relatively clean installs, and less about at-home users with multiple add-ons.  Not  reason to panic but maybe a trend to watch.  Agree with you about the value of a sim in development.  Speaking personally, if full-install updates are the way of the future, then I might consider being a lot more selective with my add-ons from now on.  That might, just possibly, be a good thing...

Not just a "focus on Sim Director" but the mere existence of it proves my point...

I still don't see a divergence in development. P3D is clearly intended for students and professionals, both of which benefit greatly from a deep, fully-functional mission editor.

Time to check Pete Dowson's vacation schedule.

Hello!

Great update v2.5

Ive read in the list: "Fixed an issue that would prevent effects from visually displaying if the effect was at a low level of detail distance". Would that mean that maybe we could see aitraffic lights more far than usually at night?

thanks!

There's the thread winner, right there...

hey look, no sli....

big surprise

I'm hoping the darker overall color and the muted hues are fixed. I was just getting ready to try Rob's mods but maybe I'll wait and see what 2.5 brings. Darn, just download 2.4 last week and got my ISP pinging on my for my data usage....was hoping for a patch, Oh well!

Cheers

Martin

I am thinking that Full reinstall may mean they are laying the ground work for coming upgrades and or features. LOL!! I am pretty sure it does not mean the end of the road. :h0134:

To be fair, I think that's a bone to pick with nVidia and not LM.

Define "end of the road." For version 2? Who knows... but it does seem like there's more to fix, i.e. necessitating a 2.6. Or, generally? No way...

Interesting point - hadn't thought of that but makes sense.  I'm dreading a full reinstall (it's been since 2.1 or 2.2)...  but I'm probably due for one and I'll be happier once I rip the band-aid off...

I think they're focused on areas of development outside of the realm of major improvements to the areas most people here would probably want to see, such as improved VAS management, tangible progress w/ nVidia for best AA & SLI support, simple things like a less 'in-your-face' ATC window several people myself included begged for early on, improved smoothness, etc.  They may be doing this because there are elements in the rendering engine that might be significantly impacted by DirectX 12 w/ the conversion to 64-bit as well so time spent now on the rendering engine may be less productive.  Perhaps it makes better sense to work on other areas like enhancements to SimDirector since those will translate w/o much ado to the 64-bit conversion.  This is just conjecture since I'm not aware of enough published detail about LM's mission plan to make a more educated guess.
