P3D 3.0 Speculation & General Nonsense

One curious aspect I noted about JV's comments regarding v3 installers for ORBx products (and whether they will need to be paid for or not) was that he mentioned "it's early days yet". This was yesterday. Does he mean that v3 installers are some way down the road, or that P3D v3 is still a long way off??

DirectX 12 is exclusive to Windows 10 so unless Lockheed Martin has updated P3D to Windows 10 we won't get DirectX 12.

Lockheed Martin's Systems Requirements for V2  for the operating system or clear -  Minimum - Microsoft Windows 7 (32 bit) and Recommended - Microsoft Windows 7 (64 bit) > not even Windows 8 yet!

And of course the recommended specs for an upcoming P3Dv3 could change...

I'm not trying to say here that I honestly think we'll see DX12 support anytime soon but I do stick to what I said before that the software really needs to step up quite a bit at some time to match the hardware.

........ and a true full screen ......

What's the benefit of this over the pseudo full screen as we have now?

I honestly hope not the latter...

The possibility of using half refresh rate in Nvidia settings.

Don't you just Love JV for keeping this thread alive?  :Tounge:

Hi,

Assuming we are not being hoodwinked by LM, and I can't believe that they would stoop so low, I believe that the change of a version number from, say, 2.x to 3.x implies the introduction of major change/s in the software product rather than simply updates or bug fixes.

Now, what might these 'major' changes be? I think we can all agree that the 2 biggies, if not actually showstoppers, are VAS management and running in Full Screen rather than a Window. The former is generally regarded as being an urgent requirement as otherwise further evolution of the sim will become hampered quite significantly. The latter may not receive priority simply because NVIDIA now have GSync working in both modes, but I believe that LM have been thinking about it for some time now...so, you never know.

Mike

My one thing I would love, is rain drops on the default Robinson chopper or any default aircraft.

I'm starting the rumor that P3D will be upgraded to DX12 in 2020 -- around the time that the IT departments of LM's commercial customers stop dragging their collective heals and upgrade the flight sim computers to Win10.

I see that according to John Venema at Orbx they've had V3 for a while for testing and according to him it's more like V2.6 rather than offering anything major.

I've just read JV's comment.  I think what he was trying to say is that there are no major file structure changes in V3 (as he was talking about the extra work needed for  V3 installers).  His comment doesn't particularly give any indication of feature enhancements (or lack of) in V3.  But whatever...

I'm sure he means 'it's early days yet!!' ...

Exactly what part of 'early days' are not being understood?

To me, it means.........

Sometime in the future, a long way off, down the road! Not tomorrow, next week, maybe not even next month & you will not see it here first!

I'm concerned for developers regarding 3.0.

Think about all the work required to just make things compatible with each patch that 2.0 saw.

That work takes time and I can see time = money lost for devs, which will mean money out of customer's pockets because the devs have to charge for it.

It also means less fresh development of aircraft and scenery because simmer's are always crying for more updates for their fav plane/scenery to work in the latest sim

Edit: I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't say I wanted the shiny Realair Legacy in P3D with GTN integration!

Robin, I think you've missed Chris' confusion.

All we know at this stage, is that there will/probably be a version 3!( as teased by Peter!)

If it will be a major upgrade, possibly with a cost? No idea whatsoever.

I hope I have not missed anything.

Now, I'm confused.. lol (sorry)
