P3D 3.0 Speculation & General Nonsense

But Windows 10 is free?

As far as I can tell on my work laptop, Windows 10 is Windows 8.1 with a start bar, there is no way I will risk a stable W7 running P3D so well for W10. For your average consumer there is absolutely no reason right now to consider anything else but their existing, stable W7 setup. Windows 7 really was for me the last OS that MS got right, everything else has been more and more steps in the wrong direction. At least W10 is a step back in the right direction but still, what does it offer to us still on W7?

Until they start to consider what they can improve as opposed to what more rubbish they can include, they won't get my business free or not. An OS is not an Apple iPhone where they must add or change something in each build to make it worthwhile, adding a store and apps really was a shoddy 'improvement', the latest stuff really is not designed around someone who wants a clean, performance driven OS but rather for people who just want a click and go solution. MS once offered the best usability and best common compatibility out there but that has been turned into an obssession to make some iOs like app/store driven nightmare.

I am hoping and praying that one day these companies will realize what they have done well and try to improve upon it instead - it is ironically the one thing that Apple fails constantly on but something which it's competitiors seem to be stupidly trying to emulate.

I wonder how long it will be before Microsoft decide to implement DX12 for Windows 7 and 8 users?

I was thinking the exact same thought

I assume you haven't tried it then...particularly on older / less powerful hardware. I Installed it on the old Lenovo T400 sitting my garage which I use for schematic / diagnostic work - it's just as fast (if not snappier) that Win 7 which it had installed prior. This was an upgrade as well, so no "fresh install" placebo in this case either.

The other machines I have are a Surface 3, an Asus HTPC and a 5930K build which are running great with the new OS. Only issue thus far for me (apart from finding an ORBX file causing the upgrade to fail) is that Dolby Digital isn't working over SPDIF. MS is working on a fix.

Rob can you spill some beans about p3dv3

No, sorry.  I've asked multiple times, but the answer is still no, NDA in place.  Best I can do is say have patients ... and believe me it's hard for me to do when I just want to EXPLODE with information, videos, screenshots.

I'm not Anti-Win10 either, I'll move my FS PCs to Win10 once I know issues are worked out (end of year maybe), but there is nothing compelling in Win 10 I "need" for the here and now.

I think any significant performance gains people have suggested with Win10 come from:

1.  A fresh wipe/install (removes all the junk accumulated in the registry)

2.  Not many keep their motherboard drivers (chipset, audio, network, EFI/BIOS) updated on a regular basis so they get newer drivers from the Win10 install ... (not all drivers come down via Windows Update in Win7)

Cheers, Rob.

@Rob,

We will have patience.

When you say it will be worth it that is enough for me.

Between the lines I read improvements performance wise ( especially VAS handling ) and new features.

And I hope the multimonitor distortion fix...

The only thing I care about is SLI added.

SLI has been available for a bit now. The visual artifacts that some people get are a result of the driver not P3D. I've had SLI working just fine for over a year, yet I keep reading posts - "I'm waiting for SLI".

Maybe there's some fine tuning that can be done on LM's end but I really believe the ball is still in Nvidia's court on this one.

SLI isn't part of Prepar3D as much as it's part of NVidia's drivers and the creation of a specific profile for any given software by NVidia.

I believe an SLI profile now exists for Prepar3D v2.5, does it not?

When I tried 2.5 only one of my three cards was running so I don't think SLI has been fixed, or at least, not fixed correctly.

I will try and I am excited to try the new 3 version when it arrives. I always want to give it a try and see how it runs compared to my FSX SE setup.

Correct. The last two iterations of NV drivers have had SLI support. As I have stated, it has worked fine for me and others for quite a while. Some people have issues with strange light artifacts but basically P3D uses SLI quite well.

If it is not using two cards - you have it set up incorrectly. The issues have been minor artifacts not card usage.

Hmm Rob not running Win 10 has me fearing there is no DX12 capability in v3   .

Well for the win10 fear mongering.... I don't get it.... this is definitely the smoothest install with performance.... on the order of improvement between Vista and Win 7..... yep that kind of difference. If you want to stay on win 7.... have fun.... the future is DX12 and Win 10.

since i upgrade to win 10 its all about stability and fluidity for my P3D, i wasnt sure to make the moove but i can confirm it was the best thing for me.

Based on several hints I feel we can say farewell to a DX12 capable P3D3. Which I regret very much. DX12 was one of the main hopes driving me to Win 10 (which move I don't regret despite.)

Still, a lot of people may be happy if LM manages to solve the OOM issue in P3D3. Unfortunately, this doesn't include me, as I never had an OOM since version 2.2. It's just a matter of type of usage.

Kind regards, Michael
