ASN fps drop in dense clouds.

Working flawlessly now.

So Mike - are you saying that YOUR problem was not with ASN but rather the REX cloud mod? Might be good to report that to HiFi and REX.

Volumize works - thanks for that but clouds definitely dont look as good either - its all good - nice to have options at the moment I am using  //

REX is cooking the update that would allow to change the size of the clouds via their interface

Check line 311 of the cloud.fx file in the ShadersHLSL and see what the values are for

GETSCREENQUADPOSITIONS

If they are both at .67 change them to .50 and then rebuild shaders and try again. .50 is default from LM.

This is the change REX put in to reduce the popcorn cloud issue but I have a feeling it impacting fps.

I don't have the issue because I backed up my cloud.fx before I installed soft clouds because I knew they modified the file then overwrote the file they modified with the original.

Sean, thank you so much. This appears to have restored performance on my initial test. Going to try a longer flight and see what happens. Really appreciate your help there.

Cheers

"Ok, here is a status update:

We've been trying lots of different things since P3D 3.2 release. Our initial 5912 3.2 compatibility update was made available via open beta and was reported to have problems with maximum upper visibility restriction.

It was found that P3D 3.2 volumetric fog rendering was "improved" or otherwise changed and this affected how visibility was rendered with volumetric fog.

We then made several attempts (B5913, B5919, B5921) to re-enable the "maximum visibility restriction" that many users sought. We were finally successful with B5921 with only a few compromises, and modified our maximum upper visibility setting effect to account for this. This was open beta tested for several days with nearly 100% success results reported so we released it as official.

Now, we have several reports of lower FPS in certain cloud scenarios. We have been able to confirm this and are now working on potential solutions in this regard.

It has become apparent that there is a fundamental change in P3D 3.2 regarding visibility handling/rendering, and that there may not be a "good" solution. Likely, there will be changes in the next build of P3D as well and we may have to do this all over again.

While we work on further builds, we appreciate your patience and understanding, and continued great feedback."

You can resize clouds back to 0.5 / 0.5 if REX has changed it to 0.76 / 0.67

and or

Go back to ASN update 5912 ( the one with the visibility issues )

Is wasn't just my problem it was for many others also. I was mistaken, wasn't mad about the whole thing I was just posting my findings and waiting patiantly for a fix.

Good idea to report it, thou probably know already.

Strange thou how it was not doing it when I set user define weather with extremely dense cloud I was maintaining 30fps with Rex cloud.fx at 0.67

Once live mode ASN was active it was a fps mess.

Cheers

Mike

+1 for those whose FPS tanked in heavy clouds post B5919 in 3.2. Deleting the shaders folder seems to have helped somewhat. I'm back to 30 fixed in heavy clouds.

To prevent REX SC TD4 from altering the default P3d cloud settings, just set cloud.fx to "read only" in properties. SC TD4 still installs the SC textures but doesn't alter cloud.fx.

That is actually good idea, I can't believe I've never thought of that! :)

Yep, my problem was 3 viruses that somehow got in my system within the last few days since the previous scan and were eating my CPU up without showing up in Project Lasso. Just made a quick flight from KLFT >> KMSY in dense low-level clouds and could maintain a steady 30fps.

I'll chime in with low FPS.  Running ASN and REX.

This is getting a little tricky ....

It seems that using multiple cloud layers with multiple visibility settings can have an impact on your framerate.

Or going back to an earlier version will give a better framerate, but will also reintroduce the max visibility issue ( read : stays fixed and the slider does nothing ).

Hopefully we are not going back to tweak simulator ...
