August 9, 20169 yr We may have seen the last version of 3.0 P3D series that doesnt break anything - it may be updated but remeber the last go aorund where people were a bit upset - just a thought Rich Sennett
August 9, 20169 yr I may sit this one out as am unwilling to walk away from my favorite add-ons and sceneries, and won't pay for old technologies a second time around. I understand, and agree wholeheartedly with your reasoning, and may also do the same. I think that we will all be flying P3Dv3 for some time just for the "old" add ons. Although, I will probably purchase v4 on release, just to see what LM have brought in the way of new tech. Cheers, Jazz
August 9, 20169 yr Although, I will probably purchase v4 on release, just to see what LM have brought in the way of new tech. Me too. And then launch P3D v3 again to play with my addons for several years/months until all/most/some developers release x64 compatible versions. Wonderful times ahead guys/gals. We will have the unique opportunity to complain to our hearts content on how long we wil have to wait for new or updated addons. Once that's done, I'm sure we will find a way to exhaust all available memory and bring the CPU & GPU to their knees while we enjoy the x64 slideshow at 1-2 FPS. Next step will be asking Intel for a 12 core processor and nVidia for a MaxiUltra Titan with 128 DDR8. I have seen this movie before, deja vu. The never ending story. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
August 9, 20169 yr I fully expect the cpu/gpu struggles to continue, to some degree. x64 is not going to fix poorly optimized products. Especially when those products are just fsx add-ons, shoe-horned to run in the 64 bit software. What I am hoping for, is that devs will finally begin to create P3D specific add ons using LM's sdk/pdk. Big deal if they charge us for it. They do that now, and sell us the exact same software as in fsx. Jazz
August 10, 20169 yr There was a time everyone was complaining that there no upgrades to software and now that we have amazing upgrades people still complain. This is the most amazing/grateful time that we are in (for the flightsim world). These upgrades are awesome (They will still offer 3.x, like they do with 2.5 and 1.4 right now). One can always move back to FSX. Looking forward to 4.0 release or any new update for that matter. August 10, 20169 yr Just remember, this post started as a tongue-in-cheek remark by the OP just making a point that they now had their 3.3 running smoothly, suggesting that Murphys Law would now bring on version 4.0. Has there been any other comment to suggest 4.0 can be expected anytime in the next few months? Ian S
August 10, 20169 yr Lol, I've saved even more. Never bought v1, v2 or v3. I'm still waiting until we get what will be considered the last of the last version, or the version that seems like there is not much left to do.... Maybe I'll be waiting a long time for that day? I'd say forever and ever and ever... and then some!

August 10, 20169 yr I see that Rob is being very quiet - do you think that he and Pete are on their hols together ? I assume they are satisfied with v3.3.5, which makes little to no trouble if you look in the forums... I do also think that v4 will be 64bit, which will be a basically new sim platform breaking compatibility with lots of the beloved addons. That said, if one expects better frame rates or graphics, he will be disappointed. Nothing will change in this regard. The only SINGLE thing that 64bit will do is that it increases virtual address space (VAS), which will ONLY be relevant for people that suffer in P3D of OOMs, which is rarely the case with V3 of P3D. So I guess LM is doing 64bit because it is trendy (see X-Plane, Dovetail) but not because there is an urgent technical need. For the transition time it might worth to have both platforms installed in order to be able to use the 32bit-only compatible addons. I also guess that AS16 is the last weather machine for the 32bit platform. Regards, Chris -- PC: Intel 13900K, Gigabyte Geforce RTX 4090, 64GB Fury Beast DDR5 RAM; Display: Varjo Aero VR
August 10, 20169 yr That said, if one expects better frame rates or graphics, he will be disappointed. Nothing will change in this regard. While this is certainly true, no one of us merely mortals knows what they have up in their sleeves. As I said, I doubt the next major version will just be a 64 bit port. Rather they might have been working on this for quite some time in parallel and introduce some more performance enhancing but compatibility breaking aspects. August 10, 20169 yr Commercial Member To me it seems that LM is on a quarterly minor release cadence (3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.etc.) and on an every two year major release cadence. I would imagine that v3.4 will be out in September, 3.5 in December, and 3.6 in March or April of 2017 and that is it for v3. After that is when v4.0 would release so likely in a year as a 64 bit app. Hope I am wrong because I would like to see v4, but I would rather see it fully baked with lots of goodies rather than another FSX version with a bit of polish. May 5, 20179 yr Oh no! I just saw a news article that Lockheed Martin just appointed a new CEO and her first order of business was to shift RND budget to ###### marketing and as a result the ACES studio has been closed! So there will be no anticipated FS11, Oh sorry typo, no anticipated P3D4. Its been attributed to Mark Twain "history doesn't repeat itself but it sure does rhyme" :-P LOL
May 5, 20179 yr LOL. In this fiscal year, LM is spending $1 billion US just on R&D. I have a feeling that their simulation unit is in the rounding error of that number. Since you brought it up in jest, I thought that I'd post a link to their CEO's 2017 media day speech (This is her 4th year as CEO, BTW): http://www.lockheedmartin.com/us/news/speeches/0321-hewson-2017-media-day.html
