October 9, 20169 yr Well, I'd have expected more highlights about the future fetaures of XP11, like "we know the weather engine is lacking at the moment and we'll work on it next. We know ATC has huge limitations, rest assure we'll deal with it, we know vegetations is under par with competitors, it's on our to do list because we listen to users and care about their suggestions and so on" I'm one that we'll buy XP11 at release but none the less I'd like to have a more clear picture about the development future steps and plans. ONe thing is to read people saying on furum "i bet we'll have this and that during the XP11 cycle", another one is to hear that from devs. And you bet that would have attracted lots of other sims users more than any reflection texture movie. October 9, 20169 yr Commercial Member I've written a "What do we know about XP 11?" summary in my blog: http://flyingxplane.apps-1and1.net/x-plane-11-in-november-what-do-we-know/ Mario Donick .:. vFlyteAir
October 9, 20169 yr We could be waiting years before we see or hear something The fact that you made that comment only tells me that you are quite frustrated with whatever you are flying now. I suppose you are tired of spending $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to get FSX or P3D up to yours standards. I suppose you are tired of having to spend a whole weekend (if not a whole week) updating p3D and all your addons to latest beta version. I suppose you are tired of that "ding, ding, ding" telling you that you are running out memory and OOM's are up next (and people actually call P3D very immersive)...geeezzzz!!!! I can go on and on and on, but I rather spend time flying, my weekend is just too short. October 9, 20169 yr i hear this atc come up again and again. Has anyone used stock FSX/P3D ATC and said, wow what a competent AI i am totally happy with it ?10.50 fixed the most herpaderp things with ATC in X-Plane. Is it good? No. Is stock FSX/P3D ATC good? No The way it has always been, if you want something that is remotely comparable to VATSIM/IVAO/PE you need to go third party. I think there are about 2000 better places to spent your energy on than the inbuilt ATC
October 9, 20169 yr Will the combo w2xp + photoscenery (Simheaven or self-generated) still be compatible with XP11? You know.. like many others I wouldn't like tons of gigs of photoscenery be wasted... It should all work nicely with XP11 too. (just like I described above, that the existing HD / UHD Mesh scenery will continue to work). October 9, 20169 yr Well, is it as ground breaking as I had hoped...nope. Will I jump on and enjoy the 11.00 to 11.XX ride, yep. I need to help keep Ben in his lab adding new/tweaking items.
October 9, 20169 yr Austin on X-Plane weather rendering (from 1h21' in www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPyydyyu3zE ): "I feel like the weather in X-Plane 11 definitely kinda got a little bit stagnated. And so what I want to see is weather that changes dinamically over time. You see, the clouds building and swirling, changing over time in a smooth way. That is not in 11.00, that is something we're going to have at some point. [...] Also the rendering of the weather, how good it looks. You know, to me these days it looks like 6.5 out of 10 or something like that, I'm not super thrilled with it. So there's a lot more weather still in front of us to improve." "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
October 9, 20169 yr Anybody knows which is the current "limitation" of X-Plane API by which addons can't depict weather near-like FSX? I don't know anything about the FSX weather engine, but as I understand it (and someone correct me if I'm wrong), the big limitation of the X-Plane weather engine appears to be the very basic 3-layer "pancake" model for clouds and winds, which surrounds the plane in a 360 degree circle and travels with the plane. That's why interpolation between METAR injections is required (with add-ons), to avoid sudden and drastic changes in the weather surrounding your plane. With this model, there is no way to model discrete vertical convection systems (CB's) that extend through the three layers, so thunderstorms don't look right and they don't act right. The reason for disappointment in v11 regarding weather, for me anyway, is that it seems to me that changing this very simplistic horizontal and plane-centric system would require a total re-build of the weather engine. That's the kind of thing you expect with a major new version of the sim, so everyone including cosmetic weather add-on products like SkyMaxx can adapt and bring out new versions. The fact that Laminar is moving so far ahead with other aspects of the sim like PBR visual effects, airport ground traffic, more advanced GPS/FMC etc., just puts the simplistic weather model in high relief as a glaring gap in X-Plane's simulated flight environment. That said, I will be pleasantly surprised and grateful if we get a re-build of the weather engine in the middle of the v11 cycle. Laminar is an unusual company in the way they do things like this, so maybe it will happen. But the scale of the project suggests we might not see better weather until v12. And that's why some of us are kvetching, while still appreciating the other new features we'll be getting. X-Plane and Microsoft Flight Simulator on Windows 10 i7 6700 4.0 GHz, 32 GB RAM, GTX 1660 ti, 1920x1200 monitor
October 9, 20169 yr Austin on X-Plane weather rendering (from 1h21' in www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPyydyyu3zE ):[...] Well that sounds promising! If Austin himself is unhappy with the weather, then there's at least a chance that we'll see some improvements over time. By the way, has there been anything mentioned about ground handling? One issue with XP10 is how it handles (or rather, does not) friction on the ground. It's fine for heavier aircraft, but for light GA aircraft, especially taildraggers, ground friction is a huge issue. With some aircraft, even a 5kt crosswind can make it slide across the runway... Also, on the note of FSX vs. XPlane. There seems to be some misconception that all criticism of XPlane is supposed to mean that FSX/P3D are somehow better and that the commenters just want to bash XPlane. But that's far from the truth. I think many of us who make critical comments here, regarding weather and other things, actually care about XPlane very much. The reason we criticize some of the developments isn't because we want to belittle LR's work, but because we feel that XPlane could be even better if some key features would receive more attention.
October 9, 20169 yr Even thought there are some welcomed improvements in the new version, they are not enough to persuade me to pay an upgrade price. Those who do, enjoy! MSFS
October 9, 20169 yr Just watched the whole presentation... I think people have overlooked something. We will get an complete FMC upgrade. And by the looks of it a very good one out of the box. This means the single thing that is the biggest hurdle for most tubeline developers (a good fmc). Now if the thing is stable (and i belive it is since phillip showed before that he is capable of building stable fmc) you are pretty much on par with FSX/P3D out of the box. I hope this thing is modifiable so it can be easily integrated in 3rd party aircrafts. The current is lets say rudimentary to put it politely That and SID/STAR capable 430/530 means you can finally use pretty much any plane online without too much hassle. That alone is worth the upgrade

Honestly: $ 59,99 is less then what I spend on a dinner with my wife and not even half of what I spend in the supermarket each Saturday! Not a bad price for having fun (yes it is entertainment!) for the next couple of years! IXEG 737 Beta-Tester and First Officer i7 [email protected], 32GB RAM, Palit GTX 1080 GameRock Premium@2Ghz, Oculus Rift S, ButtKicker X-Plane 11 latedt version on a Samsung M.2 SSD for speedy loading times
