RealAir Turbine Duke V2 in Prepar3d V4

Featured Replies

Got a bunch of errors now trying to save any changes in the Real Air config tool saying it can't write to various config files?   I have found the files and can open them and there are no permission issues on the relevant folders.  Is this normal?

In the config section of the .ini file.

The last sound is #60, but we start at 0, so there are 61 in total.

OK - got it..

I was actually looking at the Piston Duke V2, and it appears to have 239 sounds..

Related question.. If the Flaps and Gear sounds are too loud, is the best remedy to reduce the volume in the wav files, or can the config file accomplish that?

The Flaps sounds appear to have -2600 next to them, at present.

Holy moly quacker moly!!!  I've fixed it.

Right for anyone who is sniggering at my desperate posts this is what I did.  I installed the Turbine V2 into my native \P3D installation, gave up on the add on xml method.

I took Dougs file, renamed it to RASDukeTv2_Sound.dll and copied it into \P3D\SimObjects\Airplanes\RealAir Duke Turbine V2\panel

PLEASE NOTE: I didn't need to overwrite any files because one didn't exist in the first place.

I then DELETED RASDukeTv2_Sound.gau from \P3D\gauges

All sounds are now active.

Thanks for everyone's help!!  Trouble is now I have ran out of time and need to go and pick my daughter up from after school club!  Damn!!

Happy Flying, Thomas! At the end it was indeed the panel folder. Good for you that it has been solved.

Regards,

Chris

The config file sets an initial volume for the sound.  It can be changed on the fly.  I say this because in the example on the previous page (the turbine Duke) there are LVars specified to control the volume for the flaps sounds.  This strongly suggests that one or other xml gauge is changing the sounds' volume values and whatever value you set using the config file will only be valid until one of those gauges does its thing.

You will probably want to modify the sound file directly in that case.

If the sounds in question do not have volume variables specified in the piston Duke config file, you could try using the config file to reduce the volume of the offending sounds.

Piston Duke , example from Dukes ini file:

I just have to say, I'm so happy to have three of my favourite GA aircraft fully working in v4...I was really worried about losing them.  Thanks Doug for your gauge update and of course thanks to RealAir for creating these beauties!

I had a problem with VERY loud flaps/gear. Tried editing the sound.cfg and as Doug said, it made no difference. So I edited the sound files themselves. All good now. That's on the B60 Duke, the Turbine Duke the sounds are OK. In fact I copied the files over from the Turbine to the B60. Made not an iota of difference.

What has come out of this is I now know how to tone down those whooshing air noises! :cool:

I need to try this on the B60.

Which program did you use to do the edits?

Freeware Wave Editor. Operations\Amplify(Decrease) 10%\Save. Sensible sound levels. For me anyway.

Thanks for the information.

I will give editing the B60's loud wave file sounds a try.

Is there a way to fix the missing sounds from the lancair?

I just added the flaps sound and the gear sounds from a default airplane that I knew worked and edited the sound cfg. file. The sounds may not be correct but they work fine.

Except for the one DLL (Doug Dawson's sound gauge), all the remaining RA-authored gauges for the Turbine Duke V2 are XML gauges and are packed in a CAB file. The sound volumes are in the beginning of the file Soundmanager.xml and the volumes are meticulously documented. Unlike FSX, the sound volume scale ranges from 0 (-10000 in FSX nomenclature) to maximum volume of 100. The  XML file can be extracted to the same folder as the location of RASDuke.CAB and can be edited with a text editor. Then use a utility like 7-zip to replace the version of the file Soundmanager.xml in the CAB file. Make sure that you create a backup of the original CAB file. Keep in mind, this is only for personal use.

I see an unbelievable amount of detail, and as you say, well documented.

But I see no mention of sound volume.

If I would like to reduce the Flaps sound volume, where do you suggest I make a change?

Not all the sounds are adjustable in the Soundmanager.xml.  The one's that are, are right at the top of the file and flaps sound is not one of them. It must be initialized in one of the other XML files. Thomas posted the Lvars:

Lvar47=dsdFlapMotorVol
Lvar48=dsdFlapMotorVol
Lvar49=dsdFlapMotorVol

but I haven't been able to locate where they are initialized, although the variable is referenced in lines  1147, 1154 and 1177 in SoundManager.xml. Overall, my sounds are not too loud, except for the wind noise which is intialized in SoundManager.xml.
