Have you seen the new weather systems and cloud lighting? pretty significant for most airline simulations, makes the cruise a bit more enjoyable something I feel is very lacking in the legacy fsx/p3d world But FWIW I agree, P3d like all the sims will have a place and hopefully LM will release a v5 which has something else to give

Good to know...i was just quoting what I heard in the video when he said he asked the panel about pricing/subscription at the 25:23 mark...said they weren't prepared to answer anything about pricing or subscriptions as no decision has been made. But I wasn't there, so just going by what he said in the video. Edited September 30, 20196 yr by marc1184
September 30, 20196 yr LM will change all of it when their clients buying fleet of military jets ask them that they need prepar3d to have fancy graphics like msfs2020 lol. But switching to a new sim just for the weather is not something I would contemplate. I have lots of money invested in P3D. What would make a difference is if FS Labs did Concorde exclusively for that sim. But in some ways that would be illogical since it flies primarily over ocean at 10 miles up way above all weather. What benefits would that give me? A version for P3D v4/5 makes more sense. I do agree the new sim should give LM a kick up the backside. Some significant improvements are required to shift me from v4.5. Ray (Cheshire, England). September 30, 20196 yr Moderator An old quote attributed to Mark Twain comes to mind - "The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated." While the new product looks interesting, there's a LONG path from tech alpha to RTM. The only evaluation that can be done at this time is purely speculative. I don't see P3D or XP going anywhere in the near future. 3-4 years after RTM when all the hotfixes and bug fixes have been done - then it will be interesting. But to state NOW that P3D or XP is in trouble? Humorous at best. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
September 30, 20196 yr No info on 3 HUGE aspects: Seasons ATC AI Without these aspects the new MSFS will get boring fast. Reminiscent of MS Flight and FSW to a degree. We have a beautiful rendering of the earth in Bing Maps or Google Earth (in VR its quite amazing), but Aviation has so much more to it than the beauty of it. W/O these most important aspects P3D is not likely just going to fade away....time will tell. MS/Asobo has a HUGE amount of work to do still, the way I see it.

That’s for the bean counters, not the development team. I would be very surprised if it wasn’t subscription-based given the costs of running servers with 2 petabytes of data. They said there would be three options. Offline flying with limited graphics, cached scenery offering quality scenery for a given area and full-blown streaming. Ray (Cheshire, England). September 30, 20196 yr You've all heard the term "death by a thousand paper cuts". This will be "death by a thousand screen shots and videos". The mere fact that MS is behind the new sim will continue to have a chilling affect on all other flightsims and their add-ons. Although I do agree with those who have said that the details behind the MSFS pretty face do matter, I find it difficult to accept that MS will release a half baked pile of eye candy, ala either DTG FSW or AFS 2. We will all get a clue about this if MS decides on going the early access route, which is generally a disaster. They should stick to a large closed beta with an NDA for all participants.
