PMDG 737NGXu First Impressions and Review!

The complaining is getting ridiculous act like an adult. You either buy it or don't. You buy it before the 31DEC and you get the new MSFS2020 for $0 or just a little bit more with a reimbursement.

What, doing unbiased, calculated financial risk analysis is acting as a kid?

Thing is that most of you are buying this addon under the premise of a promise. A promise that has no delivery date, no disclosed purchase cost, no binding buyer guarantees and is developed for a platform that does not exist and is not controlled by them. There are so many things that can go wrong with this proposition. PMDG fully knows this, but they also know the state of mind of FS community at the moment and they have end-of-year financial goals to meet. They know that NG3 would have not sold all that well because there is new sim on the horizon, but Christmas is coming and they need to make some money. So they brand their NG3 as NGXu for P3D and make a "nice gesture" by offering to pay backhand once MSFS2020 arrives. And that only applies to Dec31, which clearly shows their motives. Not to mention they can brush you off so many ways or even back out from the deal without any legal repercussions.

Point is that basing your current purchase upon a promise with so many loose and uncontrollable variables is just dumb.

Oh and yes, I bought it too. Never said I didn't or won't. All I'm saying is that their promises mean nothing to me and I sure as sh... didn't factor it into my decision making process. And I hope I won't hear a beep from the discount-people how they are disappointed in PMDG because terms of NG3 are so and so and so, once it is released. By making an emotional decision during a financial transaction, you have alleviated yourself from such rights.

OK, I have picked up on three points over the last couple of pages of this thread.......

  • "Head bobbing" - is that what I see in the 747 when the power is reduced (for example) at the top of the climb?
  • Only a "cold and dark" panel state? No "ready for flight" with engines running??
  • No "AutoRudder steering"??

Agree!

I did buy it cause of the promise that it's a new from ground up code and I realy don't plan to go for MSFS on day one. I for sure won't have such amount of cash to spare to get everything running within 1 year after the launch of MSFS.

So planing to stick with P3D for at least next 2 years somehow helped with the decision to buy the bird. If I knew what I would get, I wouldn't have gone with the purchase....

Is it normal that in the new NGXu the "short" option no longer exists in the state pannel?
I find myself only the possibility of choosing "cold and dark".
Is it possible to insert the panel state "short" in the NGXu taking it from the NGX version?
Thanks.

Start up the sim as cold and dark.  Do what you wish like starting the APU, turning on some lights, etc.  Save that state as your own startup state.  Its easy and customized to how you want it ready.

So, are you still enjoying the product ?

Yes I am, apart from one glitch I really do enjoy it.

Two of those points seem to come from my post, so I'll answer those:

  • Remember the head shake in the 747? The one that was more like sitting on a pneumatic drill then in a smoothly moving vehicle? The 737NGXu appears to have expanded on the original head shake by an actual sort of head bobbing. It's certainly better than the 'pneumatic drill shake' of the 747, but it's unnecessary to me because I have EZCA. I have no idea whether the 737's bobbing can be turned of somehow. I have also noticed that the entire 737NGXu model sort of 'bobs' for a lack of a better world. Taxiing and looking at the plane from outside the entire model is almost randomly bobbing to and fro in a manner that I think looks rather silly. I understand PMDG is probably trying to simulate uneveness in the pavement, but this looks a little ridiculous...
  • Indeed, I only saw a cold&dark panel state to load the plane from. When you first load the aircraft it will load into, what appears to be, a 'ready for takeoff' type panel state, but if you don't save it then and there, it will be lost. However, it's of course simple to make your own just by following the relevant flows and checklists. Thus I made my own 'short turnaround' state and I have the plane load from that every time now. Works great. But, I do think it's further evidence of a lack of polish that I'm accustomed to from previous releases.

I'll add one more thing that I find rather disappointing, and that's PMDG's stance towards GSX. Why is it that every other developer out there seems to at least give basic GSX integration these days, but PMDG seems to go out of their way to ignore it? This is 2019 - GSX has been around for years now. Why must I still I click buttons to open doors when it's not a pilots job to even do that? Just seems ridiculous to me, given that this is a 100$ addon.

For those unhappy with the cost of the newest PMDG 737 those of us who were into flight sims 25-30 years ago can recall games/sims/add-ons costing $60-80 then - arriving on a single 256k 5 1/4 floppy disc. Looking at the big picture something like this for $100-150 is a bargain. I'm sure there are those out there of a certain age group who want a free house, free education, cash for life and like to chant, "okay Boomer", however that said this is reality. This product in today's dollars (or whatever your favourite currency may be) is one heck of a deal.

Unfair comments as this is all covered in the 737 Intro Manual.  Yes, there is head bobbing and other things just like what came with the 747... and more.  There are several panel states.  The default is ready for flight with engines running.  I could not find any details about autorudder steering but believe this was answered elsewhere.  I have no problems with autorudder steering.  The Intro Manual has many other quirks like some incompatibility with FSUIPC unless you delete the FSUIPC.ini and let it rebuild (only if you are having issues).  They have solutions for other things you might see as the beta testers saw them during testing.  For instance, a solution to getting TO/GA to activate is to make sure both flight director switches are turned on.  They offer many more solutions to possible issues.  For me, I just load the aircraft ready for flight, program the FMC, taxi to the runway and takeoff.  Please do not give the impression there are issues when you haven't even studied the manual (or others who own the aircraft fail to RTM).

I was responding to three items that had been reported in this thread, Jim. I was not trying to give an "impression" of anything

You can just reply straight to me, as I raised the head bobbing and panel states.

I don't see what's unfair about it. It's just my opinion...? I don't like the bobbing, that's all... I never said it to be an "issue", just a feature that I'm not a fan of. Does it significantly hinder my enjoyment of the product? Not really. And I even stated in my own post that these are tiny little things - for me.

Then just disable it from settings.

Which is indeed what I did, once I figured out where to do this.

just want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong.  Are you supposed to see your aircraft as an overlay when using the charts in EFB?

But the owners of the product can RTM and see your info is incorrect.  You do not own the product and you are making the incorrect assumption there are major issues (and those are not major issues except for maybe the Panel States) if true.  You have been a member at AVSIM for a long time and many trust your comments.  That's all I'm saying.
