PMDG 737NGXu First Impressions and Review!

I'm finding performance really harsh compared to just about all of the other PMDG products. Not really taxing my GPU, but hitting the CPU pretty hard. Any performance tips?

This worries me the most!

If you both took the time to peruse the PMDG forums on their own website you would have read that today RSR posted on this subject. I could tell what he said but then I would be encouraging you not to go there and read it for yourselves.

I saw the thread with all the performance issues but did not see his response.

Yeah... There is something not right in the VC. Sitting at a gate at KPHX during the day with the aircraft powered down, I'm getting 20-30 FPS. If I switch to any external or non cockpit view like wing view, I'm getting between 65- 80 FPS. Why such a big FPS drop when no gauges are being updated, and no dynamic lights are on? I've seen folks speculate that dynamic lighting is what is killing FPS, but I don't believe that is what is causing this particular issue. I'm sure PMDG will figure it out.

I've been having this happen for some time on about all my planes.  When I select a plane to fly I have low fps and really jerking when panning around.  Just turning on the battery results is a lot higher fps and smooth panning.  It's not really a problem - just strange.  Not really sure when this started but it's been happening for quite a while.

I love  the new window effects. So i have done a flight to panama, and on Final i got some dead insects on my window...

I don't understand the term "uncompleted" here. There is no "100% bugfree" in the software business. Never was and never will be.

yep like  to know  a  addon  that  came  out  bug  free

For the record....having some dead insects appear on my cockpit window is not really where I want research and development to be heading with my simulated planes.

To be fair I think the improvements run a lot deeper than that, but the performance is so puzzlingly bad compared to the old NGX that I can’t recommend this addon at this time.

The FSL a320 runs better for me.

I agree with this in general, but do you really think the simulation of dead bugs on the windshield (or any eye candy feature like that) takes anything worth noting away from the overall development of the addon? I see quite a number of posts like this one on various products; e.g. when FSDT KORDv2 was released and a lot of people were complaining that they don't want 3D people in the terminal to slow down the development, in which case Umberto actually said it took half a day to implement said feature and didn't impact the development process at all. With regards to the NGXu, just think about how insanely detailed that addon is.

No offense but please refrain from comments like that. I know of the reports about bad performance but there are plenty of people who don't have performance issues, some not even running high end systems. These reports definitely matter and AFAIK PMDG have acknowledged that and are looking into it, but it seems more like it's a combination of the NGXu and certain systems, settings, addons used, etc., because, again, a lot of people (including me) are not having any performance issues.

Why?  He is relaying his exact experience with the product and also his opinion.

No. He should absolutely not refrain from commenting on performance. Nor should anyone else. I am one of those who suffer from this add-on running like a dog. I like the airplane but would not recommend it, because If you are one of us that suffers from performance it is $100 down the drain.

Well then please tell me what is this setting or addon that cuts third of performance with this aircraft? If you are jollying around with low settings, 100 fps unlimited and suddenly drop to 70 when using NGXu, then sure, you might not see a performance issue. But if you have your system set to, for example, medium to high settings with fps locked to 40, then you can see a drastic decrease in performance. Comparing NGXu with all other PMDG products in same scenario, PMDG yields about 30-40% worse performance.

I have my system set to rather high settings and I can fly anything with fps locked to 40 and pretty much never fall below that. With NGXu, I can barely break 30 fps over the ocean with nothing in sight. Performance is a metric, and if you only go by your gut feeling, then maybe it is you who should refrain from commenting.

Out of curiosity, what settings are you using? In my case, settings to about medium-high, the NGXu runs on par with the NGX. Slightly worse, but within what I would expect. MY first flight was KSEA-PANC leaving a grey and dreary KSEA through a thick layer of clouds. Performance once in the air was not great due to the clouds, I'm sure, but after that it was generally at or around the locked 30FPS.

Importantly, I don't use SSAA filtering and haven't flown with the NGXu at night yet. I do have dynamic lights enabled. My feeling is that those suffering bad performance are likely to use some combination of SSAA filtering, dynamic lighting and clouds, which is known to drag performance down. Is this the type of scenery you are running, or is performance all-around bad for you with the NGXu?

Wow quite a rude bunch on this forum. First I politely ask if there’s any tips to improve performance and I’m told to get off of this forum and go search through a forum that I already looked through (didn’t even link or refer me to the thread, still don’t know which one it was). Then I’m told to shut up about my problem because someone else doesn’t have one.
