Solid base package, but mostly aimed towards newcomers and casuals.

This two statements are mutually exclusive.

But, in the video interview today, it was made clear that they did not want to go too far with "perfecting" the default aircraft, and rather leave that task to the 3rd parties..

What they said is they are not going to go to a level of PMDG depth, which is a high level of avionic fidelity. The default aircraft included in the platform will be mid-level fidelity offerings, of which some will have issues, but Asobo will continue to fix refine those aircraft. They stated that the priority of functionality is that which allows a user to fly the plane, but other elements of functionality, like the seat belt switch is not a priority at this time so it will be prioritized lower. That does not mean it will not get done, rather they will get to it later.

When this is released next week, there will be many things that need fixing and/or enabling and those items will be resolved in the future. They are not planning on releasing their stable of aircraft and leaving things where they are. That is good news for all of us, especially the newcomers that they mentioned that would need working aircraft as they likely would not want to initially spend money on payware.

I was also listening for that, and it seemed to me that they were going to leave some of that to 3rd parties to deliver.. so the default planes may simply be whatever they are at pesent..

Bert they clearly stated that they have improved the G1000 from the current Beta to the release version so I suspect there will be small improvements to ensure core functionality is operational.

But complete functionality for the avionics is too much, third parties will need to flesh these systems in the future. That's pretty reasonable I think.

I am not saying it is not reasonable, however it would be unfortunate if the avionics are only partly functional and there is no way for 3rd parties to improve upon them, as there are in FSX/P3D.  That would make the default airplanes fancy doorstops, at least for me..

They were actually indicating that they did not want 3rd parties to touch the default airplanes, other than providing liveries. 😉

Hopefully one of two things will happen (glass half full):

1. The Garmin avionics will be improved so that we'll be happy using them for our flight navigation (licensing with Garmin perhaps..)

2.  The GPS gauges will be opened up to 3rd parties who can improve them further..

Will there be chart integration in the sim? (No answer)

NAVBLUE is pleased to announce that it has been selected to supply their data solutions for “Microsoft Flight Simulator,” the next iteration in the franchise scheduled for release this year.

NAVBLUE was selected to supply data solutions after an official contract was signed at the end of March 2020.

NAVBLUE will provide real-world aeronautical data to Microsoft through its Navigation+ and, post launch, Charts+ services, to support the realistic experience that is the next generation “Microsoft Flight Simulator” software.

So NavBlue are providing the data used in the sim out of the box, but also mention charts to be released post launch too. No idea if that will be at some extra cost, but will be interesting to see considering Microsoft signed an official contract with them.

It seems to me that just like current and past sims, in the end the real quality and detail is going to come from 3rd party developers.

There is a ridiculous amount of quality in this sim - remember Asobo have put the hard work in to enable third party content to look this good.

Perhaps you meant to say third party will have more time and resources to add more depth to the simulation 🙂 check out Brussels International from Aerosoft - wow!

Only ridiculous to you because it is not what you had hoped to hear. It likely will progress over time to become what most people hope for. It is also clear that the speculation we have seen over the past year is just the tip of the iceberg. LOL

What speculation? What do most people hope for?

Oh I see, yes sorry you could be correct there. The defaults will probably remain at that level of simulation. Is that really an issue though. I mean it's also a good thing because less complexity is exposed and people learning systems and new to simming can perhaps find it a bit easier to consume. I know that's not what you want to hear Bert but there will be lots of study aircraft to choose from in the future I'm sure of it!

Can you say on which ones it's working very well?

Sounds like they have done additional work on the g1000. At this point the non-internal testers would risk giving outdated information and cause more harm than good.

The lady interviewer seemed extremely boring. Wish we had someone else, other than that, loved the team at Asobo!

Like I said in another thread, this will not be a version 1.0 release, but rather like a release candidate or late stage beta.  The developers even stated that they are counting on user feedback after release, which is good news really.

They have still not implemented seasonal changes except for snow.

There was no mention of AI traffic other than liveries and even that is uncertain due to pending licensing issues.  We also won't have custom AI traffic schedules, just live traffic.

There are no cirrus clouds, which I was very surprised to hear.

There are still issues with tree height that have yet to be resolved.

There are still some issues with the ATC.

A bit disappointing to hear, and I could keep nitpicking, but that's not my intention.  Just making the point that this thing is not fully developed yet, so no one should expect everything to work perfectly out of the box so to speak.

I really like the developer team and I'm confident that these issues will eventually get sorted out, just not by August 18.

From what I saw the avsim in particular and the community in general played a key role in MSFS for which everyone should be grateful. It makes it even more exciting what the future will bring with people who work for people. Sign of intelligence and knowledge.

João PS

The stream content wasn't any great shake, but that's kind of to be expected at this point, everyone's gonna be expected to be 'on message' from a corporate angle at this time, so there were never going to be any massive surprise revelations. That's probably part of why the interviewer came across as a bit lacklustre, but for future reference if they are reading this, getting someone with a bit more zip in their personality would make for a better overall presentation.

i liked the interview alot, no big deal,
everybody's working their asses off at Asobo
to make everyone happy in the future,
well, at least an attempt.

The release date does not matter, because every day there will be people where something does not fit,

you just have to start at one point.
