Stop trying to pass these videos of night flights taken with a camera as being realistic, because it clearly isn't. I see his point though....especially if there is a stark transition from rural to megatropolis....like coming in from over water or in some places in Africa where rural dots the majority of the landscape until you approach Johannesburg...the city is gonna look bright as heck. Either way....if there was a way to give us controls to adjust a few things on our machines to our individual tastes, that might help verses AS swinging waaaaay too far the other way in the next patch. Tough subject either way...there is going to be some contention. 😉 Regards, Steve DraGet my paints for MSFS planes at flightsim.to here, and iFly 737s hereDownload my FSX, P3D paints at Avsim by clicking here
October 30, 20205 yr My biggest thing about night light in perfect VFR conditions! 1. You can't see approach lightning system, runway edge lights and etc unless your very close to the airport less then 3-4 miles 2. You can see retaliating beacon from very far 10 miles or more! For some reason it's all reversed now in MSFS Life time flight sim enthusiast, current airplane owner 172P (past C182F). Aren't you going to say that this looks much better than before? Good god! That second photo looks ridiculous!!!! The ground texture lighting is better but those word not allowed white lights look like an led strip lighting! Chris Camp

For me the first one is more realistic. What do you guys think? I think I like the AFTER one better. I have thought even the initial lighting was too fuzzy/blurry, halos were too large. I like the sharper lights in the AFTER photo better. Like I said, the problem isn't the lighting in the cities, the problem is the lighting in rural areas. Asobo just needs to decrease the density of lighting in rural areas and make it more sparse. And then we will have very good lighting in MSFS. i5-12400, RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM
October 30, 20205 yr I think what we need in this topic a poll from Asobo, I see some like the new lighting and some don't like new lighting. AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 64GB DDR5 6000MHZ RAM, RX7900XT, FreeSync 165hz 1440p display

They just need consistent feedback and a consensus view of what is required to dial it in. October 30, 20205 yr Here is my original pic: Thru the magic of 3 mins in photoshop.....I've done a quick focused darken/fade on the distant lights towards the left of the screen (i didn't really touch the that big blob of lights as to show the ridiculousness of them when contrasted against the fading ones I edited....still not optimum, but much better IMO...the distant lights need to fade. 🙂 Imagine if we had in-sim settings to adjust the fade distance and intensity of night lighting? 🙂 Regards, Steve DraGet my paints for MSFS planes at flightsim.to here, and iFly 737s hereDownload my FSX, P3D paints at Avsim by clicking here

I just took a cross country red-eye flight in the US. We were at FL380 and the bigger cities like Memphis show a lot of light from that altitude. Eric

I agree the new picture is much closer to reality but still somewhat dim by comparison... maybe needs a bit more lighting yet 🙂. Graham Agreed. The updated night lights look way more close to real life than before. Ppl in here are literally complaining over something that in reality is more life like than before. It's like they are saying, Hey Asobo, it's too real now, we like the unrealistic look that we have grown so accustomed too over the years. Edited October 30, 20205 yr by B777ER Eric

I was 20 miles away from PANC, directly abeam of the runway, weather severe clear, and see the strobes popping as if there were a line of photographers snapping flashbulbs directly at me. The only way I should get a hit on them is if there is a ton of moisture in the air and they're refracting off that....otherwise I should not see them at that distance and angle. By far one of the most inaccurate things in the sim (except for the red blobs of death when approaching wind farms) Reminds me of this: Got to 1:10 in the vid....
