I sent a Zendesk message asking for my money back until the problem is fixed. I'm sure they're just as busy processing my refund as they are fixing their broken software
March 16, 20215 yr Though my issues are a little different than what has been shared here, I find it interesting that I received a reply from my recent report to Zendesk re: problems with their flight-planning interface wherein they suggested I make changes to my Graphics settings... I just reminded them that the issues with their flight-planning module have nothing to to with my graphics settings. Randall Rocke
March 16, 20215 yr I have to report that I've just finished a forty minute flight in my local area (south coast of UK) in the Caravan at or above 50 FPS with NO stutters or GPU tanks or anything except very smooth FPS from takeoff to landing. Before, in this area there are distinct zones where I had terrible FPS problems like those described and I've been ranting about how the latest Update has killed off my sim with awful performance with the best of them. I wonder if it's just luck or what exactly this problem with the Cloud servers has been over the last couple of days which has been a banner on the official forums and has now gone (assume Resolved). . .? It definitely seems to be area specific. I did a bunch of testing around KMSP. If I got within around 40 miles of the airport, the framerate would drop off a cliff, from totally smooth to bringing up memories of playing F15 Strike Eagle on my Apple IIgs back in the day. Framerate would bounce between 2 and 15 or so fps. This is an airport and scenery area that I spend a lot of time in, and it has never been anything but glass-smooth until now. A couple of things that I noted: - At no time during the framerate drops did any of my CPU cores rise above 80%. My ram did not max out either. My bandwidth usage did not max out or even get close. The video card wasn't even running its fans at full speed, so it was loping along too, not anywhere near maxed out. Occasionally I would see a spike in SSD activity, but not consistently enough to explain all of the fps loss. - If I managed to pick a time when the framerate was "high" (around 15) so that I could land with some modicum of control, the runway behaved as though I were landing in a boulder field. The plane rocked violently left to right before registering a crash. This is a runway that I have landed on many times since the sim came out, and it's always been smooth. So something is messing up terrain, or terrain / landing gear interface calculations. - When the framerate in the sim drops, if I hit escape and navigate around the menus, the menus respond extremely slowly. The menus are lagging too! That would seem to eliminate the idea that a graphic setting is turned up too high, because those settings should not impact menu performance. The only reasonable conclusion I can reach form my testing is that Asobo messed up and broke something, and nothing we can do as end users can fix it until they find the bug and squash it. I find it especially strange that the menu slowdown only happens when the sim slows down, which only happens in certain geographical areas. I can't imagine why airplane location would impact settings menu performance, but it seems it does. It has not been resolved - I had the same issue flying out of Zurich and on approach to Lisbon. Luckily it cleared up 10 miles from final so I could shoot the landing without issue. I have a go to spot to check (runways at LIRQ with a marketplace airport) and its still happing there - as well as 76T in the US which is a go to spot to see if its truly fixed.
March 16, 20215 yr Yep, that was happening to me too. But ike I just said I've over-flown the "problem" areas in the Caravan and had zero FPS drop, etc. I'm going up now to test again.
March 16, 20215 yr I've had these issues all over the UK, but on the weekend I had the problems approaching Kingsford Smith and a number of rural airports I flew from in the US. It is true to say that sometimes the sim seems to be running fine. I did a flight up the east coast of Scotland that was pretty good, but perhaps that's because ther's nothin there except fields and a few small towns (Sorry if you live in Dundee or Aberdeen 😀). March 16, 20215 yr Just tried 76T - wow 3 FPS and GPU at 25% approximately. March 16, 20215 yr Yup for some reason Rio de Jainero area runs butter smooth for me in VR every time. Its just as densely populated with objects and has to render 2 airports in close proximity but runs really well. Meanwhile aiports like Charles de Gualle located away from the main concentration of Paris's cityscape will absolutely tank performance to where I can barely get off the ground without stutter. Every time I try 76T it I get a whole 5 FPS!!!! It's really fun if you have Track IR on, you will get air sick in not time. If the Asobo people can't figure out what is causing this problem, they need to find another line of work.
