I will reiterate what I said one year ago. The smoothest sim experience I’ve ever had was when Xplane switched to Vulkan. It’s no exaggeration to say it was as smooth as butter.
As to how it is these days, I’ve no idea. I deleted it as it looks terrible compared to MSFS.

The age old sim scenario still exists though; more time tweaking that flying. Except this time it’s the devs doing the tweaking!

Ian have you tried LOD 400/400?

What does this mean for TrackIR users?

Nothing good.

Not at all. Everything is much smoother now.

Hope you are right. Will find out in about 15 hours once the download completed 🙂

Simming since FS 98. MSFS rig - Ryzen 3600 4.2Ghz - 32GB RAM 3600Mhz - Motherboard MSI 570 A Pro - RTX 2080 Ti -all overclocked - 2xNVME storage. PSU Corsair HX850i platinum. Average 30Fps on 4K ultra.

No. Track IR users are mostly fine since I hope you don't snap your neck around. Those who will have more issues are those who do snap view changes.

Yup. It’s the way it works now.

Hi,

Ok, I have been flying around for the last many minutes. Here's my opinion from what I see: For what it's worth:

1. When panning with my yoke hat switch, I don't see too many issues with scenery popping or refreshing as I feared, but I have camera views that I switch to with a button on my yoke, and when I go from right window to left window, I DO see popping. It takes about 1/2 second for the trees/ground to pop into focus. Not overly bad, but something that NEVER happened before this update. No reason for me to have this happen when before this update, this did not happen at all, and I didn't have any issues with performance - at all!

Needlessly degraded the sim.

2. I don't see a better LOD for trees! Even when I increase from 100 to 170 to 150 to 110. If fact I see a definitely LINE where the trees STOP. This distance might be greater (?) but i know before this update the "blending" of trees/no trees seemed to be a LOT better. Not as noticeable to me. But now I definitely see this. It's hard to un-see 😞 I didn't see it before this update. It's so obvious. It was not like this a few days ago.     * This alone is decreasing my outlook of MSFS when I am flying. I also see more shimmering when setting is at 170 - even at lower, so I will keep this at 100 like before.

3. When I use "pause" then un-pause, the 172 engine dies. Never did this before, maybe I have to check something in the cockpit.

4. WHAT'S up with the huge butt labeling of menu items in the cockpit?? I had to turn it off (i'll wait for a mod to "fix" this...thank you in advance modders! And what happen to the tooltip that shows throttle percentage? And mixture %? Thanks Aboso, I guess seeing "softkey" on the autopilot panels really is very useful, lol.

5. I think, no, I know, for me, visual qualities is not better, and it's decreasing the beauty of the sim now.

6. Maybe it's time to play a lot more Witcher and Skyrim again. Maybe even break out DCS and learn the A-10C better.

Does 400/400 make it a lot better?

Overall is better and smoother, specially if you are an airliner and fly high, you won't notice this.

It literally gave me buttery smooth fps in NYC where I didn't have that before. It's a huge improvement overall with some minor room for further improvement to reduce pop-ins.

Interesting to know that many of these issues are happening to the xbox version (I use Xbox series X) so now PC users cannot blame 3rd party content, OC etc 😂. Asobo has a huge job to do.

Set trees and object lod to 400. You won't lose much performance.

OMG!!! Can't you at least wait until you have tried it your self before acting like a child?

I don't, I fly VFR 99% of the time. That's the whole point of the sheer beauty of the sim. Or was...

Yes, I already predicted dozens of whining children. That's been true for as long as I've been part of the flight sim community. This is not surprising at all. There is some room for improvement but in no way does it break the sim.

No one is whining here...this is a widespread observation at this point.

Now what's annoying and whiney is your constant gatekeeping and trying to dictate how others should interpret the observation, along with your consecutive triple and double posting
