PMDG vs FENIX team...

Featured Replies

PMDG is a dinosaur company, sitting in a hailstorm of meteorites. And we know how that turned out....for the dinosaurs.

All my money is on companies like WT and FbW, and the modding community they came out off, pushing the sim forward, not constantly crying and moaning about what the SDK can or cannot do.

Release the product, even if features need to be added later, and stop showing pretty pictures.

Hey all. What with the animosity in this thread, I feel the need for you all to be aware of the fact that PMDG and Fenix have vastly different development workflows; at Fenix we are mainly working with much more mature aspects of the MSFS SDK, whereas there are some areas of the SDK that have remained almost untouched in nearly a year, and certainly in need of significant improvement if its to be utilised fully. If those aspects of the SDK are central to PMDG's workflow it's absolutely understandable they'd be engaging with Asobo to see them improved. Neither workflow is wrong, both no doubt have their compromises to facilitate the development of such complex aircraft. Please also remember there's no animosity between developers - we're hoping Asobo will provide what they need to see PMDG's marvellous 737 out the door soon!

Thanks Aamir.  Pretty much what I guessed.  The PMDG 737 Is likely more tightly coupled to the MSFS SDK than the Fenix A320 is.

Thanks for the post, flight simulation is like politics the worst always comes  from the militants.

You have a social and love life?! Can you describe for me what are they like? (I've forgotten!) 😁

Me neither. The developers are doing things so differently to one another that no comparison could be fair.
Feels a bit like trying to stir some more conflict on here. A bit like all the taking of sides over which flight sim platform is better, whether it's Asobo or it's Microsoft to blame for MSFS update problems, if it really is flight simming if you use an Xbox controller, should it really be called 'Sim of the Year edition' rather than 'Game...', should haze be visible when a METAR reads 10SM, etc.

I don't like the mudslinging aimed at people like Jorg and Rob at all. Can we please stop? We're throwing PMDG under the bus for discussing limitations of the SDK but Rob was the same person who shut people up about the SDK not too long ago. Remember his post about the SDK not being in the same state as when he first got his hands on it? There's a difference between whining and candidly discussing hurdles to the progress of a project. Fenix is mostly using the SDK for eye candy, everything else is happening outside the sim. Stop the unfair comparisons, guys.

I’m sure they are quaking at missing out on your business.

Maybe PMDG can learn a thing or two from the guys at Fenix......

At least they don't throw MS/Asobo under the bus when things don't go their way. Kind of like Aerosoft too. Developers like Inibuilds, Fenix and Leonardo just keep working with less talking.

To be honest FBW does a little whining about the SDK also and they are not in it for profit.

Maybe not but they sure managed to tick off a bunch of P3D users and potential future sales with their rant yesterday then they want to blame Asobo for their shortcommings. Really? sounds like arrogance playing the victum.

I wonder how many of the PMDG haters will buy the 737 when it is released. ? 🙄

There's a lot of emotive talk about one party or the other being thrown under the bus.
Nobody is being thrown under a bus at all.
It is like nobody can make a critical comment these days without somebody responding over-dramatically about it.

Whatever PMDG say, if it is the truth, it is simply stating a fact.
Why do people have to be over dramatic and say about Asobo being thrown under a bus?
Facts are facts, and it is alright to discuss them or the validity of the comments, or we wouldn't have an active and lively forum, but this "being thrown under a bus" thing is really getting over-used.

I just think it has been an interesting insight by some developers, and we all know it is a big ask for Asobo to do everything at once for everybody, as they are struggling as it is now.
I don't think anybody with any common sense expects they can do everything we all want in such a short space of time, and if they do, they need to lower their expectations.
I don't like the regressions and the introduction of some of the bugs we get at updates; they really need to get a grip of that, but after that, with new features, they can only go as fast as they naturally can.

As for the PMDG 737, they either release it slightly unfinished for the impatient ones (which is alright as long as the omissions are disclosed to the purchaser), or we simply have to wait.
Asobo will do the SDK additions as quickly as they can, as I am sure they will want their cut of the marketplace money.
Then again, we don't know if Asobo get a cut, or if MS take it all. If that is the case, then not much incentive I suppose.
