SU 10 is out!

Featured Replies

Just to throw some more fuel on the fire I decided to try DX12 again but with the DA40 NG this time and the VRAM usage on my card was around 5 out of 7 gigs. No problem running out of RAM at all. FPS was decent as well. My previous attempt was in the PMDG 737 where the VRAM in my 8 Gig card was being overrun very quickly.

I suppose the 737 has a lot more cockpit textures to push to the video card and this is where the problem comes in for 8 Gig cards.

[Edit]: Forgot to mention that I'm using the studio driver.

Given your VRAM allocations, it seems the new memory manager is working for you, but you're still not seeing the level of multi-threading and performance gains that were in the initial beta... correct?  Which says that there's still something missing.

ps. Weren't you promoted to Admiral? 😄

It might seem that way, yes. Re: multithreading though, I’m not sure which monitoring software I can trust, as they give wildly different results.

I guess I must have been demoted at some stage 😅

Hm, well, just did my first flight with SU10 and the updated Fenix and er... I'm underwhelmed. After all this waiting I expected something er... more wow... The main difference I see is that I have stutters now at a small default airport like ENVA. And the left side stick finally shines. Well... don't know what I expected, really, but somehow I expected more. Worse performance wasn't on my wish list.

BTW All my settings were saved and okay but oddly enhough the zoom was back at default 50. Strange...

And Low power mode seems to do nothing, at least not when you pause (to the menu) during flight. I see a difference in the main menu but was hoping that you could save some power during pause too.

Naaaah... underwhelmed here... Slightly disappointed.

Another thing: it seems things are quite blurred when I look around with TrackIR...? Somehow it is less good looking. The grapihcs are trailing (don't know what the correct word is). Things used to stay sharp when I looked around but not anymore. Is there a setting I am missing?

Something has really changed and it's not for the better...

The performance was supposed to be a bit better from SU10. No performance issues in the Fenix update.

My guess is that MS was left in the dark by Nvidia on this whole driver thing. Nvidia are notoriously difficult to work with by all accounts… arrogant and very secretive... consider the recent EVGA situation as testimony. Microsoft probably wanted to time the release of SU10 with the next driver update from Nvidia but couldn’t get a word out of them as to what their plans are, so they released SU10 with a built-in mechanism to activate the memory manager should Nvidia actually ever do what they promised. Its very likely that MS and we are completely at Nvidia's mercy.

What doesn't add up is the gains that people observed in the early stages of the SU10 beta... which was on old unoptimized drivers.  Was that build only good on very high end cards like 3090s with tons of VRAM and killing cards with lesser VRAM?  What did they undo?

This is called a DLSS overlay. Google "How to remove DLSS overlay"and you will find some articles on how to remove it.

In game low power mode only kicks in when the window is minimised.

Intel Core i5-12600k, Nvidia RTX 4070 Super, 128 Gigs.

I was getting spectacular performance  before the patch with everything on ultra, 100% AIG AI, at 3rd party airports like Imaginesim ATL, with Fenix, even full overcast sky. It has always been curious that my PC would be absolutely silent. My CPU liquid cooling fans would be barely spinning and my 3080 fans would also be at low RPM. (i7-11700k OC'd to 5.2Ghz, G.Skill 32Gb 4133Mhz, 3080Ti with modest 300Mhz OC, Asus Maximus Mobo, etc.)

After the patch I noticed no increase in performance at all - maybe even a decrease - but now my GPU fan is going nuts and my liquid cooling fans are definitely spinning faster. I assume that MSFS is using the GPU more now? Can anyone confirm?

So the only thing I got more of out of the patch was more fan noise and more generated heat for the same / less performance.

Going to have to push back here to your inaccurate statements. I'm an industry analyst and often interact directly with NVidia (Data Center BU) and the firm is KNOWN for its quick responsiveness to the marketplace and their customers. This is why they regularly provide game ready updates AND the reason they split game ready drivers from studio drivers. They listened to their non-gaming GPU users who don't want to waste time being pestered with the latest Elden Ring driver updates while they are only using Photoshop.

The NVidia I know is not arrogant as you say. As a matter of fact the best 5 hours I've spent on an airplane was next to an NVidia Engineer. As far as being secretive, yes they are, they have some of the most valuable intellectual property on the planet and they are very protective of it. However, that doesn't turn them into the Illuminati. They are no more secretive than any other company with billions in IP - Apple, Cisco, Microsoft, Intel, VMWare, AMD.

Thanks, I will give that a try!

What am I missing here.  From all I've read DX12 and DLSS is dependent on the new nVidia Game Ready driver that hasn't been released.  The Studio Driver has nothing to do with MSFS.

So it seems some are getting the cart before the horse.  I seems to me that the new driver will eliminate all the problems listed in the pages of comments in this thread.

I'm staying with DX11 until it comes out. DX12 is still Beta.

Roy

The new studio driver was released by Nvidia just 16 hours before SU10 went live, and it was released out-of-sequence, meaning there was no previous GRD with the same number. That is unusual, and indicates to me that Nvidia wanted to be absolutely sure this driver would be available before the official launch of SU10

The release notes for the studio driver specifically and explicitly state that it contains a fix for DX12 in MSFS.
