Poor Performance with NVIDIA 4090

Is this the speed the 11900K is running at ?

And yes, this cpu icw a 4090 needs a 1000+ W stabilized power supply. Preferable 1100-1200 W.

Simple.... MSFS Nerfed the max graphics performance for the benefit of battling climate change!

A 4090 has way too high of a carbon footprint!

We better stop using planes then.

By the way 4090 draws less power then the 3090TI

Gerard he was running his memory speed at 2133 mhz, which he's now fixed, he's at 3600 mhz.

That alone was hamstringing his cpu, hence on the second post in this thread I suggested he's cpu bound.

Still -- I do think something else is going on.   It could be the refresh rate/monitor/g-sync settings.   Even being cpu bound, I think his setup should do better than it is.  There could be a bug with his card + gsync that we don't know about yet.

UPDATE: This may seem silly and I feel a bit stupid.

But watching this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWgc0_V9w0I

I have just followed the step by step of the configurations that they make there, and I have realized that the option that makes the 4090 really explode in FPS gains is grayed out (I have no way to enable it from MSFS)

https://ibb.co/KVQZx14

Nvidia DLSS Frame Generation should be able to switch to ON. Now I'll have to see what's going on, because I can't enable this option. The SU11 version damaged, the Nvidia drivers or control panel that something additional must be configured, etc.

At the moment I am going to uninstall the SU11 version and reinstall the complete package. I will also completely remove the Nvidia drivers. I'll get back as soon as I have everything back upstairs.

If anyone has a suggestion as to why I don't have the DLSS Frame Generator enabled, welcome.

I think you managed to fix this with exiting the beta and rejoining (Edited for clarity)?

TDP for both is 450 watt. 4090 is supposed to be more power efficient though:

It's not really "needed", but it doesn't cost much more to just get 1000-1200w. I paid $150 for an EVGA Platinum 1200 in case I ever need the extra juice, it is the highest wattage one they make I believe that still is roughly the same size as a standard ATX power supply. Their 1300 watts and higher are larger. The EVGA power supplies are also more efficient than most, causing lower power usage. I believe efficiency slightly reduces the amount of heat generated in the case. The capacitors wear out over time slightly, but maybe not as much as in the old days. An older power supply won't produce as much juice, that said I think people exaggerate to how much they wear out. I assume it's the electrolyte capacitors, but I forget.

Per the memory speed issue, I really don't think that made hardly any difference. I'm going to set my memory to 2133 and see how much, it's probably not more than 5%. He needs to change his settings around to load his GPU more to see if he can find a better "performance pattern" overall.

The 3060TI maxes out at about 200 watts.  The TDP for the 4090 is 450 the same as the 3090TI. 😑

Make sure HAGS is turned on.
This is necessary to make the option available

Yeah, I struggled getting frame generation to work when I got the 4090. What's needed is:

  • latest nVidia game ready driver (522.25)
  • HAGS on
  • SU11 beta
  • DX12
  • DLSS then DLAA

Even then, the menu item for frame generation didn't show (it wasn't even grayed out). I resolved it by manually editing usercfg.opt and setting DLSSG to 1.

Quote

Version 66
{Video
    Adapter "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090"
    Monitor 0
    Windowed 1
    FullscreenBorderless 1
    WindowActive 0
    Resolution 2880 1620
    FullScreenResolution 3840 2160
    PosX 0
    PosY 0
    AntiAliasing DLSS
    DLSSMode DLAA
    DLSSG 1

    Reflex OFF

What's complicating this further is that some menu items in the beta are garbled. Not for all users though, apparently. I've got “MENU.GRAPHICS_EFFECT_DLSS_G” instead of frame generation.

9sxxvJe.jpg

I haven't been able to resolve why the menu items are like this. I even exited the beta and rejoined as @Maxis mentioned. At first the menu was normal, then on the second MSFS load it returned to garbled.

Another important thing: dev mode fps counter will not show the increased fps with frame generation on. For that you need an external app. I use RTTS.

Does it always show double the FPS of the dev mode counter? Or it is a coincidence that is showing double on your screenshot?

I think it's usually roughly double. Could be exactly double all the time. I haven't reflected too much on that.

EDIT: @Alvega I've kept an eye on this for the last hour or so. Seems to be double all the time.

You need to put some heavy load on the GPU.  I crank up (3080) the graphics settings until I become GPU limited, then adjust a bit down from there.  You have plenty of HP to run ULTRA on everything, IMO.
