Helicopters, what do you think?

Featured Replies

Struggling a little bit, to be honest. Flying the H145 with my T.16000 was pretty straight forward, somehow they had a good fake collective vs throttle setup. With the Gimbal I simply fail, because I do not have a separate throttle and collective axis available, how do you guys circumvent this?

Greetings, Chris

To realistically fly helis, you need the separate axis. I use a separate axis on my throttle for that.  I nonetheless fail miserably in the Gimbal as well. Can't seem to make sense out of it. In the Bell it doesn't even seem to work (throttle ring doesn't move, in the Gimbal it does).

I have always been very bad with helis so the issue may well be stupidity on my side though.

With a standard fixed-wing profile the collective is linked to whatever axis you have for throttle. The throttle you can control by hand/mouse (on the Cabri it's also tied to your prop axis). But you are not meant to (under normal conditions) interface with the Cabri's throttle during flight: activate the governor (flip switch at from end of collective) and go fly using only your pitch/roll axis and the throttle (now collective) axis.

There axis for collective and cyclic. I would uncheck elevator an aileron axis.

to my surprise i found it easy, i use a controller, assistence on for now, surprisingly easy to fly.

I can't fly them. Soon as I lift off it's a left spin and need to apply heavy right "rudder" to sort of correct it but it's otherwise a completely chaotic at best flight experience

As it would be for anyone. Flying helicopters with no experience and no assists is hard.

Will existing models like the H135 require an update to work correctly or can they just make use of the new physics in the sim out of the box?

Yes definitely would need to be updated to take advantage of the native helicopter physics/aerodynamics (for example the new framework uses CFD). The experts at helisimmer are also saying 3rd party helicopter sim developers are ramping up to deliver birds based on the new physics engine, so I'd think the ones who released helis based on the fixed-wing aircraft FMs would definitely update too.

Sounds as if the throttle (not collective) is not functioning automatically. did you try control-E to see if it sets up correctly that way?

Thx!! I loaded the H135 profile which is working good with the Cabri G2. So i checked my controls (axis) and compared it with my H145 profile. I now got it working with my H145 profile. Thx for the tip CTRL-E.

Kind regards, Bouwe

How can we set them to Cold&Dark at startup?

If you start from a regular parking spot I believe that will do it - at least that's how it worked for me with the 407 at an airport I am currently working on.  If you are starting at a Helipad, they seem to be tagged as "Start" positions in the SDK much like the runway start positions that have everything powered up and running when you begin.

"That's what" - She

The Asobo Guimbal Cabri G2 responds very well to soft gentle cyclic, pedal and collective coordination/inputs.

This one feels really good, honestly I feel they've tuned it so everyone could have a smooth time with it.

The MSFS helicopters aren't anywhere near Dodosim temperamental, doing stuff like this in the old FSX Dodosim 206 would be insanity.🤣

I really like the G2.

Is there a list of the new helipads? Searching on the World Map (with filter on) but cannot locate them.

I haven’t found a list yet unfortunately, I’m going to go through the official folder and harvest the names of heliports (and glider airports as well)
