Best ATC background chatter prog ?

Featured Replies

Live ATC.net is good and if you’re in the U.K. I use globaltuners for background  ATC jibber jabbering.

Its pretty silly in this day and age blocking ATC transmissions from the internet when there’s a raft of ADS-B tracking apps and websites available with much more intimate information available,

Hi @Paul K For me FS ATC Chatter is a hidden gem. If you are just looking for background chatter it is really good and does as advertised. They have a demo version that you can try for free. I re

  • For those using FS ATC chatter don't forget to check every once in awhile for updates. I just downloaded updates for the US and Canada, over 4,000 new chatter files. They sound great!!!

  • Never thought I would buy a ATC chatter app. But fs-atc-chatter is very immersive  and plays well with Pilot2Atc. If you press the 🎤 hotkey the chatter is muted. If you release it, chatter goes on.

I've installed FS ATC Chatter ( full version ) from stick and rudder , I quite like it so far , thing is probably because I am a newbie , I did a flight from EGCC to LSZH and the vast majority of voices were Irish, now I like the Irish don't get me wrong  but more  variation would have been nice lol !

@Paul K

Just checked, the demo is still available https://www.stickandrudderstudios.com/fs-atc-chatter-sample-collection-and-demo/

Spend a bit of time trying it out so you understand the limitations as well.

The clips are sampled from LiveATC.net from around the world and matched against regions and controller types. They have been trimmed of any very specific geographical references so they can work for more than one location within a region. For some that might also be a drawback. I personally don’t mind a Dutch accent controller chatting in the background when I fly in Denmark or UK.

Let us know where you land 😉

In my opinion, LiveATC.net is better.

I was gonna say... Just use the real thing.

Flying mainly in US region, FS ATC Chatter is a must-have. It’s independant from the time of flight (vs LiveATC which is… live). Also, it’s a sort of training tool for me to keep a background process in my head to monitor this english frequency (I’m french) which is generic and not related to where I fly.

Check my free MSFS sceneries : https://flightsim.to/profile/vbazillio/trending and my hardware configuration.

I listen to Live ATC on my smart phone, but when flying in the sim in different areas of the world, all the time, I don't like listening to a ground controller in Omaha Nebraska, when I am flying an approach into Sao Paulo. The advantage of the chatter files, is that they strip out locations, plus you can have ground, unicomm, departure, center, etc, depending where you are in your flight. it  adds to the immersion instead of wrecking it.

Pro ATC SR also provides background ATC chatter. Works reasonably well. Unfortunately, the rest of the program is extremely buggy and the support is non-existant.

Or is there something better?

LiveATC.net is great.  I use A Pilot's Life V2 and currently am flying for Japan Airlines so can bring up airports in Japan and region and get all of the ambience needed.  Prior to JAL I flew for Lufthansa--Germany doesn't play w/ LiveATC in this scenario I used neighboring airports that would be closer to German in language/accent, so used Netherlands sites.  Most often though you will find airports where you're flying including your departure/arrivals.  I love APLv2 it's taken me all over to smaller (and larger) airports I neve would have frequented.   If it's very new to me I will open up Wiki in mid-flight when there isn't much to do and read about the town I'm flying in to, plus will open Spotify and play music specific to the area, for example right now am playing music from Okinawa, Japan.

Erm... try listening to German ATC on the internet.

FS ATC Chatter is 'the best' option in my opinion, as it covers all the continents (except Antarctica—who wants to listen to Penguins anyway?), uses real voices, has a simple and intuitive UI, contains 37,500 audio files (so far), and is much less faff than switching between different LiveATC.net feeds.

Does FS ATC Chatter override conversations you are having with ATC, or does it pipe down when the Sim is communicating with you?
