TFDi MD-11 Goes on Pre-Sale ?

Featured Replies

My favourite heavy of all time, but i'll hold onto the $80 until i see it actually flying. A good in-depth video will probably suffice, but ATM there's nothing and as previously said not even a release date estimate.

Waiter: “Pretty much every game on Steam, Star Citizen, PMDG’s EFB, and TFDi’s MD11.”

Mostly fun, but this one really made me laugh 😛

Really wonder why they wouldn‘t port their 717 over to MSFS first, like Leonardo or PMDG did with their respective line-up…

Why shouldn't there be two or even three? Having a choice is great for consumers.

Aye, fantastic..

If they have a serious back money warrantee policy endorsed with PayPal as mediator etc., ok, if not, be careful, and more already after many years, this becomes suspicious, sadly.

It's not suspicious to me.  They are well known in this hobby.  They themselves are into flight simming.  They have a long history of being available and responsive.  On their discord they have a special section for people who bought the collectors edition where they get updates and pictures not shown to the general public.  There is a lot of real work going on for this airplane.  I can understand why somebody is uncomfortable with a pre buy.  I get that.  But is it suspicious to me? No it's not.  They are just looking to get some revenue.

Regarding their 717.  I really hope after the MD-11 is released, they begin working on that plane for msfs.

I might know. I have the 717 in P3d. My take is the plane is, “meh”.  Your opinion may be different but mine..meh!

Well, I think it's a marketing mistake to show this content only to a select audience that has already purchased the aircraft, while for the general public, there are only a few screenshots. No video, no in-depth analysis. No release date. Very little has been shown to convince it's worth $80.

I know TFDi and its reputation, but I feel that there are many red flags, starting with the biggest one which is the warning that the aircraft will be launched in early access and that if you expect a finished product at launch, don't buy it.

No addon is perfect at launch, but how much 'early access' will this aircraft be at launch? Will it be like FSS who bought an E175 model from another dev, slapped default systems on it, applied some cosmetics to look like E-Jets systems and released, promising that one day, it will have fully customized systems? It reminds me of another MD-11, from Rotate for X-Plane. After 5 years of development, it was released so buggy that it was borderline unflyable and it took months to fix it.

Also, as I said in the first pre-sale, it screams ''we've run out of money''. This second pre-sale only heightens my suspicions that TFDi is struggling financially. I have a hard time believing that a developer who is financially stable would be willing to do a pre-sale of their product, which with so little showing, sounds more like a donation.

With all this, I prefer to wait for reviews.

I don't get why people have issues with pre-sales.

They aren't mandatory,   they are for people who want to support the product early in it's development cycle.   I've purchased aircraft which I'll never fly,   like the Discus 2c,   just to support their initiative.

It's like half the world wakes up looking for something to outraged about.   To each his own,  I guess.

I, too, am fine with EA and pre-sales. I've bought a lot of EA games on Steam, waited years for them to get completed. Some have been a disappointment, some have taken a long time to hit their stride but were worth it. None were a great experience.

This isn't that, though. They're having you buy EA without an EA product to give you, they just say "when it becomes available, we won't charge you more than the $80 we've already charged you."

It's already a high pricetag for something that looks... fine... from a dev that released a good looking 717 years ago that didn't work properly for over a year. I only got about 10 months of that airplane working alright until 64 bit came out and over years they just... failed to bring it to 64 bit correctly.

Anyone that had the 717 probably feels similarly - this dev has some hearts and minds to win over, and charging for price increase insurance possibly 3 months prior to an unfinished release is a perplexingly poor PR move. I think I'm far less likely to buy now than I was before.

I think is is a simple as they are running out of money to pay the bills. They try everything they can to be able to pay salaries. As much as they have worked with this they feel it would be a shame to throw it all away.

It does not mean that they think it is a good approach or what they planned on doing in the first place.

They launched a collector's edition including the MD-11ER limited to 1000 copies, which doesn't make any sense for a digital product that can't run out, about a year ago already. This is now the second time they are asking for money before giving a release date or even showing much of substance despite being at FSExpo, coupled with the subtle hint that they may jack up the already high price even more and only pre-purchasing makes sure you won't have to pay the extra. In the end, all of this is for an early access product which won't even be finished when actually released.

Do that once, maybe, but twice with year in between is a mess at this point and doesn't exactly instill confidence in the product or the company. There's nothing wrong with being willing to take the risk, but not everyone is comfortable with spending their hard earned on something you've never really seen, that isn't available yet and won't be finished even when released and is more expensive than the competition too. Objectively, this just isn't a great deal at all.

If that is the case, I don't think it's a smart idea to buy a non-released aircraft from a developer that's about to go bankrupt, right?

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

For someone who doesn't know them (and many MSFS simmers same as me), why would I trust them? I have no idea about them as I never had a product from them before. Especially many "questionable" developers are trying to take advantage of the massive MSFS userbase to make bucks without doing any effort.

You don't have to trust them.

You can wait till the plane is released and judge it then.
