Actually 4x works. It will oscillate continously between +1000 and -1000 FPM, but it will stay within these limits and the AP will therefore not disconnect. At least that was my experience.

OK, well...that's not my definition of "works"

Short of video viewing time today.

Could someone summarize his findings/thoughts?

Recommended or not recommended?

Thanks

Well I expected it to be more polished and refined. But I don't regret getting it. If you like 310 you probably like 300 . I can accept a lot of shortcoming but lack of terrain radar year later after release of 310 is simply disappointing .

I believe they said it was causing performance issues which is why it’s not added on release. Which is why they are looking at doing their own custom solution for it. But hopefully that’s not a long wait.

I think it was the same reason upon release of A310. And again Fenix hast, Leonardo has it, PMDG has it..no performance issue. I'm not picking on inBuilds, but it's been outstanding problem for at least a year and obviously not on their priority list

Do we know if they are all using external databases for that? I believe that may be the difference here. As I remember them saying the issue is with the default one.

We shall have to see what happens.

How do people have time to watch a 4 hour video -- like 2 full length feature films!  A summary would be great if someone has a few minutes.

We skip to the end, were people usually summarize their thoughts. Which is exactly what happened in that video as well.😉

If you own the PMDG 737, there is a /Config/DEM folder in which there are many DEM files -- these are digital elevation model files.

I believe I've read that PMDG is using an external database for their Terrain depiction on the ND and I believe these DEM files are that database...

You could probably get more clarification/confirmation on the PMDG forums on this.

That is correct. In that regard, it works exactly like a real EGPWS, which is not a “radar”’of any kind, but which has a digital database of worldwide terrain and displays it based on GPS-derived aircraft position and altitude.

the performant enough is only true for ms aircraft, a300 will get its own custom terrain

So it does seem like we should get a custom terrain solution at some point.

is terrain radar working? how to enable it? if i push the terrain button nothing happens

No it's not included / working at this time. They plan to add it in a future update when they have a custom solution for it.
