Concentration needs to be on unloading the main thread more - Asobo see this, and from the twitch session a while ago, that is precisely what they are looking at.

Yup that's exactly what they're doing for MSFS 2024 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPhScg_FINE&t=718s : Seb: "engine re-written for massive performance improvements, multi-threaded, all physics/aerodynamics on a different core than the main thread"

And then in Helisimmer interview: https://www.helisimmer.com/interview/msfs-2024-helicopters-future-msfs-2020

Q (Sergio): All that makes a lot of sense. With more computational power, more stuff can be done. But I started to wonder about limits. How many cores can we eventually use for this? Sebastian answered that as well.

A (Seb): So, we don't have currently a hard limit set, it's just the limit of the memory. At some point, it's gonna drop the performance, right?

What we measure right now, and we're not finished optimizing, we're already at a four to five times performance increase. And I think we're gonna maybe get 10 […] you can easily add 10 times more surfaces, right? It's very quickly, right?

And so, I think if people add 20 times more surfaces than before, well, then you may be gonna offload, you know, load the other threads. And the more you load, the more you take away compute power for the terrain, or other stuff, right? Which is using thread.

And at some point, it's gonna have an impact. I don't think we're gonna set a limit. We're gonna limit ourselves, we're gonna have recommendations, but just like today, a third-party aircraft can do a lot of stuff. If it wants to load up the machines, it can.

Memory can be a limit because that would crash. But performance, well... There's no limit.

Also, the new aerodynamics is a lot cheaper on memory than before. Like, this is three or four times cheaper, right? In terms of memory footprint. Which is also necessary because otherwise, if you put more stuff, then you run into memory issues. So, we optimize that as well.

In my particular BIOS, I see now that hyperthreading is called SMT Mode. It was set to auto, I reset it to disabled.

If I install the Beta, do I need to uninstall it before installing the final version? I have the Steam version.

normally not, the final version will simply overwrite what it needs to change. often the beta just becomes the final if no bugs were found.

"is it worth it it to dive in to the BETA- SU15?"

only if you like improved performance and a stutter free flight simulator. 😃 and all the other improvements as listed in the release notes.

Normally but, but had to uninstall to get the beta to take. Have had to do with with every update (so annoying).

Don't need. The last beta version will be the release version...

Worth mentioning that SU15 has a CTD being tracked in the forum, so it’s truly a beta - don’t immediately jump in based on hype unless you’re willing to deal with crashes.

Yup, the nature of beta testing. I've had a couple of CTDs with Exception code: 0xc0000005 since joining the beta. If they persist I'll return to SU14 and butter smooth performance vs SU15 "better than butter smooth".

Placebo... This update has done nothing for this behavior.

another endorsement for big performance improvement with this beta.  DX12 / 4090

It's very noticeable on my first flight  (A300 KATL-KMCO)

Hey guys. I feel like the turning radius of the C172 is pretty bad and nothing happens with differential braking. Am I doing something wrong?

That's actually not true.

From reviewing the main MSFS forum, it seems that this change :-

  • Ground Contact Resolution Improvements; more accurate ground contact model.

...potentially affects all aircraft.

Whereas these changes;

  • Optional soft ground collision model for tires / flexible gears.
  • Enabled new soft gears on C172 and Cabri.
  • New high accuracy physics system to enable vibrations and micro movements

.... have indeed only been added to the C172 G1000 and Cabri.
