It's for the early days, whereas BATC currently has nothing at all from other planes. Even with unrelated ATC comms in the background, I find it very immersive with the other comms "traffic" around. I'll even wait for them to finish before I start talking (even though I don't need to). of course, something is better than nothing. But I wasnt being critical, apologies if it came over that way, just being clear about the facts without any bashing 🙂 Kevin Firth - AMD 9800X3D; Asus Prime X670E; 64Gb Cas30 6000 DDR5; RTX5090; AutoFPS
May 23, 20242 yr No worries! I realised after you wrote that I left out that most important pieces of context. I'm still very much looking forward to the third new app in this category of course... 😉

But, they announced on the developer livestream last week that they're going to change it very soon, so that the chatter you hear will be local, based on recordings of (consenting) real pilots. They'll obviously curate the recordings to make sure they sound authentic. So the example Brian gave was that in the UK you'd hear local English ATC traffic. Oh I know, I just feel like regional voice synthesis at this point should be a given, especially with a $30 a month subscription. That means I expect a lot more from a piece of software when it's charging that much. May 23, 20242 yr Bought it, tried it, like it. Still think this should have never released without the traffic but all these inpatient people thought otherwise. Bugs and all sorts of weirdness, not sure if I will use it for now over the default ATC, maybe but I absolutely hate not having the traffic chatter. so boring. It's not like default ATC chatter is fun either. It's like three robots from 1995 talking to each other and repeating the same things over and over and over again... and why not use BATC when you bought it? It's a bazillion times better than default ATC. If you really want the ATC chatter, you can leave default ATC turned on in the background (just not talking to it yourself). May 23, 20242 yr We each have our own preferences but after 10 days of using BATC, I don’t miss all that other chat. Certainly not at busy airports where it was tough to even reply. And in these early stages of learning what works and what doesn't in BATC, it’s probably less confusing to only have ‘our chatter’.
May 23, 20242 yr I use FS ATC Chatter alongside BATC and it’s a very nice combo. https://www.avsim.com/forums/forum/893-fs-atc-chatter/ Dave Current System (Running at 4k): ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F, Ryzen 7800X3D, RTX 5090, 55" Samsung Q80T, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, EVGA CLC 280mm AIO Cooler, Brunner CLS-E NG Yoke, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS & Stick, Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant & Add-on, VirtualFly Ruddo+, TQ6+ and Yoko+, GoFlight MCP-PRO and EFIS, Skalarki FCU and MCDU

May 24, 20242 yr Clearly people have different expectations, and use of the sim... I tried the so-called Live traffic option and it's such chaos I can't stand it, lol. I am just doing 'A Pilot's Life' flights, I like automation, I don't want to be bothered with talking, the auto options and menus in BATC fit perfectly with my usage. It is totally different from a person that really wants to talk or maybe practice 'aviation speak' 🙂 I have a PPL, talking to ATC is not a novelty. When there is traffic injection/communication that all works together that will be totally awesome, but for now, this really enhances what I'm already doing and I'm satisfied with the money I've spent. It‘s the next big thing on the roadmap, but honestly they have to fix approaches and vectors first (and some data errors) before realistically focusing on traffic. I‘d say 3-4 months until the first version. Keep in mind the first version will be solely focused on getting traffic into the sim and make it move appropriately. Not so much how it interacts with ATC or separation stuff. This will take much longer (a year?). For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. You're right, this is a hugely complex and difficult area that will take significant time to get right. How long exactly, will be determined not least by how much fidelity the Devs want to include. May 24, 20242 yr Completed my 2nd flight with BATC it went well while not perfect but much better than the 1st flight. I flew Denver to Las Vegas CONNR SEVEN SID and the CHOWW TWO STAR. My Sim brief FP had me departing RW 25 (current DEN Ops as well), but BATC gave be RW 34L not a big deal as that is what the ATIS In BATC was saying). With this flight I had ATIS, Clearance Del, Ground, Tower, Departure, Center (Denver, Salt Lake, and LA Center) I did have Denver Center hand be off to several different Denver Centers one of them was not listed so I kept going back to the good Center and after a while I was handed off to Salt Lake Center. Salt Lake handed me off to LA center and LA set me up on the CHOWW TWO 26L Zulu. Descent, Approach, handoff to Tower went well. Ran into an issue after landing holding on A6 after landing tower wanted me to back track on Alpha to Alpha5 hold short 26R instead of continuing A6 holding short 26R. Las Vegas ground did not understand be when I requested taxi to parking gate Delta 58, or D58 I had to use the drop down and she said Delta55 (same thing I said). I will be doing a few flights this weekend and see how things go along the way. Still looking for the ability to request a different RW for takeoff, as well as landing.
