BeyondATC Released (EA)

Featured Replies

When a flight goes flawless, this app is the bees knees. Departed in a TBM at Lanai (Hawaii - PHNY) with Barking Sands PMRF as my destination (PHBK). I was vectored in but ATC had me too high on the first attempt so it advised me 'we are going to try that again". On the next attempt, after climbing to 4,400, it took me further out making the decent and final approach perfect. Handed off to Tower, then ground who asked if I wanted a specific ramp parking. They aren't all this perfect but we're getting close to a very good ATC solution.

You guys must have all missed the part where the dev put it to a vote and the majority asked them to release early. Several of us said yes, release early but just be prepared for the dogpile of people

I finally ordered a headset with the mic. I waited forever for this and always supported these guys when this was in dev and was against releasing this early. Should I get it? Is it worth it now? Should I wait for SayIntentions to get cheaper? I think SI sounds a tad better than BATC. Decisions decisions...

You should at least check the trial on SayIntention before just to have something to compare to. Other than that I dont think BATC is worth it now and if you can wait you should wait at least a couple of months. I do think it will take them at least that much to fix all the problems with arrival and I dont see traffic being a thing this year.

BATC is very good and I bought it on Day One. But, then I tried SI and haven't gone back to BATC. Lower prices will be announced in a few weeks. To me, SI just feels more realistic. BATC though is a great program.

I call it a bug all the time but I do think it's more of a finetuning problem. The dev should make BATC less strict when it comes to passing waypoints. And you'd think BATC should be able to know where you are and in which heading you are flying in regards to a waypoint. Seems like basic stuff to me.

Since this problem is the cause of most problems with BATC (which I think is a fact if you look at their Discord) it surprises me that the dev doesn't mention this at all and nothing seems to be done about it in all the patches we get.

All true, on the approach the waypoints come pretty quickly, so I would guess I had passed a couple more before it tried to vector me back.

Really needs to be able to work out if you have passed a waypoint further down your plan (or even better that you are enroute to one).

Enjoying BATC now. Yes, its still early and lots of development to come yet but when it works, I love it. This sim sorely needed an ATC solution and I think it's awesome that we are finally getting some options on market.

I bought it, was disappointed at first, but just loaded an update, did a flight KSFO-KLAX, and it was flawless!! Only thing it did unrealistically is trying to give me a direct-to on the beginning of the SID, it wouldn't have been done in RL, but it was easy enough to ignore, I just let the A320 continue the SID and all was well. Then it really impressed me that it got the right TOD, told me to descend on the STAR, and also told me to expect the ILS24R, at the correct point at the end of the STAR it gave me perfect vectors and altitude to go smoothly into the ILS. It was just great, let's hope it can keep delivering like this! At least now I'm not sorry about buying it! 🙂

Now fly outside of FAA airspace and it won't be so perfect any longer. Currently the descend logic needs serious work. It isn't noticeble in the U.S. becaus most times you simply descend via the published STAR and no one bothers to give you any further instructions.

Oh yes, the rabbit hole that is deviation from published SIDs/STARs!  There's a myriad of different circumstances in which clearances can permit this.  Even RL pilots fight about what's ok or not on PPRUNE 😉

Is there an AI chatter in both programs, or does it feel like you're entirely alone in the skies? I know BATC is still working on the AI injection, but is it actually communicating with FSLTL traffic at all or no?

There’s no chatter built into BATC. I know some are using chatter programs such as stick and rudder or live ATC (where possible) proactively to make it feel less lonely.

SI has both AI chatter and live chatter (opt-in realtime audio of other pilots), or a combination of the two. The skies feel much more alive in SI currently. I’m sure BATC will get there though once traffic injection comes along.

I feel the same. I’ve been using SI for a few months already and bought BATC a couple of weeks ago.

I’m so used to SI understanding what I’m saying that I have real trouble sticking to the precise script that BATC expects that I have to repeat myself a lot and I get scalded multiple times per flight for giving perfectly acceptable responses (albeit not the required one).

i am definitely not getting the game changer feeling with BATC that I did with SI. I have it now of course and I’ll give it a chance to improve and try again later in the development process, but I’m going to be enjoying SI for now instead.

Can you actually make the faux chatter and voices regional in SI? Did the trial, sitting in innsbruck hearing united airplanes operate and thick american accents on everyone isn't super immersive.

Check for assitance settings in MSFS (auto-tune the radio or something like that).

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.
