May 23, 20242 yr Well dare to dream but it seems to getting there. Two flights this morning - one TLV-LCA and NCE-GVA and both were pretty good up to and including the final vectors. I didn’t use a STAR into LCA but it gave me heading which matched up nicely with the ILS P and then a couple of vectors which out me nicely on the LOC. I used a STAR into GVA which left me initially a little high but using 320sim pilot’s trick which is if you’re kept high to slow down, I got it nicely in the slot. Sadly whilst fiddling with GSX to choose a gate on final I managed to trigger the go-around instruction which kind of ruined the experience but hey ho it was all going well up until my fat finger moment. The voices are really good and immersive - all of the sectors sounded realistic, both in Tel Aviv and Nicosia and then Nice, Marseille, Milan and Geneva although I kept saying ‘Nice’ as in ‘spice’ rather than the correct ‘Neece’ but I’m sure that’s fixable. Any why oh why can’t we just select the arrival gate in GSX before we depart 😤😤

Weird error. It seems like somethings wrong with Simconnect. You should report on Discord. EDIT: or do you mean you get the correct names at the bottom, but no voice? Also no options (buttons) to talk to ATC? Edited May 23, 20242 yr by Fiorentoni For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.
May 23, 20242 yr Quick question that's probably been answered on here. When you are advised to 'expect' the STAR, does that mean we just descend once we hit TOD without being told to?
May 23, 20242 yr Having dabbled with both SI and BATC, I think I'm starting to prefer BATC. Feel free to correct me on these things; BATC actually knows you're in the world and will call you out on mistakes you do, where as SI is just talking to an AI that seems oblivious to what you do half the time. Initiate a pushback without clearance and BATC gave me a stern lady, asking me to write down a number. BATC automatically just picks up your callsign and flight number, SI you have to manually put it in every time? Again, it's clearly not aware of your actual flight in the world, I'm just talking to a disconnected voice. BATC is aware of my flight plan, seems to actually give me SIDS and STARS I have. SI just seems to pick whatever it feels like, deviating from my flight plan for no real discernible reason and my god, it trying to vector me in to RWY 12 at EKCH, when I had 04L in the plan, was a nightmare. It just left me hanging for waaaaay to long, it seemed to forget me as well. BATC's regional voices add quite a lot. As mentioned, sitting in Innsbruck and hearing thick American accents on everything, with a lot of US carriers for background chatting doesn't really add a lot of immersion SI was weird to communicate with at times. I could see it pick up what I said, it was accepted as a response to ATC but ATC never actually acknowledged it. I've even had cases of radio static being played but SI's interface showing ATC saying something, like the voice wasn't played back properly. Granted, BATC is more scripted and I've hit my fair share of bugs but I absolutely prefer it for its consistency and knowing I'm present in the world. But considering this is early days, I am super excited to see what it'll be like in 4-6 months and especially when traffic is added. I don't know the 'law' regarding this but no! Expect just means you can program it into your FC/FMS/GNS ready to USE it when given permission. ATC should clear you for an altitude to get you down for STAR entry then either clear you for each waypoint alt/spd constraint individually (if busy) or just clear you for entire STAR if you the only plane on it. Then you SHOULD get an expect APPR instruction and a clearance for that as well. ATC should give 'descend when ready' instruction ahead of your TOD so you can let the VNAV do its thing. With software this might be 50 miles or 5 seconds before TOD lol. I made mistake of descending immediately once after DWR command and ended up cruising at 1000ft above the ocean for 40 miles before next waypoint🙄 Russell Gough SE London

Did the trial, sitting in innsbruck hearing united airplanes operate and thick american accents on everyone isn't super immersive. The chatter isn't regional yet. Remember that this is still early access. But, they announced on the developer livestream last week that they're going to change it very soon, so that the chatter you hear will be local, based on recordings of (consenting) real pilots. They'll obviously curate the recordings to make sure they sound authentic. So the example Brian gave was that in the UK you'd hear local English ATC traffic.

No. You have to call that you are ready for descend when you reach the TOD. As long as you are not cleared a STAR you are also not cleared to any of its altitude profile.
May 23, 20242 yr I've been trying to diagnose the problem I've had with BATC and extremely slow responses. Turns out that when I'm using VR, and mouse click somewhere inside my VR field of view, BATC does not respond, or only slowly. Something to do with focus, I'm assuming. Those are the circumstances, but I've not found a cure yet. 'Always on Top' and 'Toggle Bring to Front' don't make any difference. Petraeus
May 23, 20242 yr if you use premium voice, try the basics Roland MSFS my local airport release: LFOR Chartres-Metropole MSFS Plugins RAAS (registered FSUIPC7 required) MSFS FX for Objects & Landmark in France (Steam and smoke) and Aerial coverage for French nuclear sites

It's for the early days, whereas BATC currently has nothing at all from other planes. Even with unrelated ATC comms in the background, I find it very immersive with the other comms "traffic" around. I'll even wait for them to finish before I start talking (even though I don't need to). Edited May 23, 20242 yr by Redge
