AVSIM Abysmal performance... Is it me?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Regularly it takes about 20-30sec before an AVSIM page is loading, or no connection at all (gateway timeout).
I have a 1gbit fiber connection (Netherlands) and 99.9% of the other websites I visited, load in a few milliseconds.

I don't have a clue why AVSIM is responding so slowly.
Am I the only one or do others experience the same issues?

Disabling the File Library to make the Main Site function faster, even for a couple days, is just "robbing Peter to pay Paul". In reality, the entire Site needs to be revamped with new Software j

  • I’m not too keen these on these fancy technical explanations. It always seems someone’s trying to blind us with science…..🤔

  • That is why we are bombarded with ads is it not?  I for one will not be donating again while these ads exist.  And the post above is definately another reason.

I experience the same. For over a year. It comes and goes. Usually it's fine. It seems to happen more often at certain times of the day, like around 08 British Summer Time. The issue doesn't seem to ever last long. Usually only a minute or so and then speeds are back to normal.

AVSIM was offline for me for quite some time this afternoon. It has always been a bit unpredictable (like now when I attempted to post this message), but it usually corrects itself very quickly.

Same here, can take quite a long time to get to the forums, and equally as long to load a topic. Been this way for a while.

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱
Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!

Just started for me tonight.  No real problem.  Been having it for a while with A2A.

I hoping this isn’t a “death by a thousand cuts” scenario and Avsim slowly gets worse and worse regarding the IT backend due to cost of maintenance and the cost of keeping the site going into the future.

Just logged in and trying to maneuver around the forums is an exercise in frustration. Loading stalls and then I get sent back to the first page.

Would temporarily disabling the file library help alleviate these issues? How relevant is that section nowadays?

Another option might be to launch a targeted funding campaign to upgrade the server and/or forum software.
