December 1, 20241 yr So funny to see how everyone has such different experiences and views on 2020 and 2024! Makes you wonder if we are all talking about the same sim! 2024 is totally awesome, works like a charm (I only have onu bug that annoys me: I can live with the rest) and the idea of having to go back to 2020... Nooooooooo! See? Totally the opposite of some other posts here! I haven't flown as much as I do now for months and months...! And I have ONLY flown the VJ in Free Flight mode: haven't touched anything else yet! (Only addon in use is BATC.) Well, we'll see how things are in a few months from now. 2024 is a lot better to me than 2020 was after its release...!

For what it's worth: I loved 2020 after it's release and would have rated it A+. Dittos for 2024. Both are huge and complicated and therefore they have issues. That's to be expected and a pipedream to think it would be released without problems here and there. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. December 1, 20241 yr I imagine this didn't age well 😁. I haven't installed 24 yet and really see no reason to. Despite assurances from so many folks on the Internet, it appears that not only will ALL of my add-ons not work flawlessly in 24 yet, but in fact none of them will. Not a single one of the aircraft that I enjoy fully works in 24 yet, according to their devs. When you add the continuing sim bugginess to that fact, I guess a better question would be, why in the world would I install 24 yet? It would be a step backwards. It'll get there, and when it's no longer a step backwards (sim is stable, bugs are squashed, all the quality add-ons are fully compatible) then I'll gladly install it and I'm sure I'll enjoy it. But visuals are definitely not a reason for me to use a new sim. It sounds as if there are improvements to things like ground physics as well and that's great for the default aircraft and devs going forward, but in the meantime the aircraft I like in 2020 have already partially or fully (A2A) fixed this themselves, so it wouldn't seem to mean much for me. December 1, 20241 yr Aye. Eventually. That's when I'll reinstall it. The good thing is when you DO reinstall you don't have to do any restocking of add-ons or settings. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA

It's mostly Career Mode thst is buggy now. With the server issues largely fixed, Free Flight is okay in MSFS 2024 (not perfect, but relatively stable if you're not using incompatible add-ons). Soon they will shut down more servers for 2020 in favor of the 2024 career gamers and force (free flight) people to quit MSFS forever. Edited December 1, 20241 yr by JBDB-MD80
December 1, 20241 yr Not sure that would make a lot of sense. Free flight people are the ones who buy marketplace add-ons since they can't be used in career mode, right? And the marketplace is almost the entirety of revenue generation for the title. Not sure why it would seem likely that they'd torpedo their own marketplace... Andrew Crowley
December 2, 20241 yr At this point in time I cannot get 2024 to have the clean crisp detailed images, especially at hand crafted airports like Vince B does e.g. KSEE or KMYF, and am just astounded at how much better the visuals are for me in 2020. Two other issues keeping me from a full blown commitment to 2024 are: Long load times Settings that will not stay in place / Control bindings that don't work every time. This morning I started 2024 with the default Textron/Beech Bravo and an empty community folder. I checked my Bravo Throttle Quadrant bindings and they all appeared correct. But, the prop axis, despite showing it bound, would not operate the prop. It had been working fine just an hour earlier. It took three tries to get the 2024 controls to work the prop. No apparent errors - the assigned filter showed it as bound but it would not work. Or - sometimes the C172 works OK - other times it will not allow me to remove the pitot tube and engine inlet covers. Shut the sim down and restart it - and easy-peasy I can remove the covers. Too much weird frustions! No. I fly the 172 in MSFS 2024 and it works just the same as in MSFS 2020. Probably spent 15 hours on the 172 so far, including Career Mode, and I have not encountered 1 bug with the 172 in my 15 hours with it. Now there are bugs with Career Mode, but that's Career Mode.
