  1. 1. Will you keep using MSFS 2020 for as long as it is supported ?

    • Yes, for sure - at least for as long as my addons are fully ported to 2024 and assuming I will like 2024 after getting hand-on experience...

I have way too much fun using A Pilot's Life and Self Loading Cargo to stop using those and I'm sure it will take a while before those port to 2024, but who knows maybe sooner than later.   That, and the 4 planes I currently use I hope they will adapt quickly as well.  So will install 2024 right away and get familiar but no hurry to move over permanently.  I've been wanting to do something other than what I do now w/ those apps, meaning airliner operations and hoping some of the career/mission modes will add some very different uses of the sim.

I imagine this didn't age well 😁. I haven't installed 24 yet and really see no reason to.  Despite assurances from so many folks on the Internet, it appears that not only will ALL of my add-ons n

  • Nope, zero reason. I reinstalled Windows few weeks ago and haven't even installed MSFS 2020 again and have no intentions of setting all that up again. Got a lot on my plate right now but happily just

  • I think you just have to look at how busy the FSX forum is here (even the FS9 forum for goodness sake) to see how some people like to cling on to what they know.

I am uninstalling 2020 with the quickness when 2024 drops. I am confident that it will have a much more stable launch than 2020n did. People probably haven't noticed this, but 2020 was a lot more unstable and buggy when it had its Global Preview Event. The only glaring issue 2024 had was the hilarious error man bug that got sorted out in less than an hour at the event. I take that as a sign that Asobo has indeed leaned a lot and are building on their experience to give us a much more polished product on launch.

I will keep using FS2020 until I know my favorite BS and PMDG aircraft are 100% ported to the new sim, not interested in the default aircraft.

It depends whether my RTX3050 and I7-12560 will be capable of running MSFS24? I will be mostly flying warbirds and vintage jets, airliners are not my cup of tea.

I intend to roll to 2024 and remove 2020 completely.  Though my addons are in a custom community folder with dynamic links (Via addon linker).  I'll probably wait a few weeks until we see how addon aircraft/scenery play with the new sim.

I plan on doing the same, no hurry to remove FS2020 until I see how AC and scenery will work in 2024. Once Addon linker is updated to handle new sim, I most likely remove 2020 altogether.

Streaming data for MSFS 2024 will speed up starts and reduce pressure on storage requirements. But I am in the unusual position of only having a 20Mbps rural wireless connection when the recommended specs for MSFS 2024 are 50Mbps. On this basis, I will be remaining with MSFS 2020.

However, some encouraging and knowledgeable folk on this forum have indicated that so long as longish start times and requirements for storage space are not a showstopper, then MS2024 will allow you to run with everything downloaded so that data stream requirements will be no more than for MSFS 2020 as new areas are approached.  But, until I have seen this in practice, I will need to stay with MSFS 2020. Definitely not a day one purchase for this user.

Interesting ! I thought about that too - it would be too dependent on the bandwidth specially for those using the sim in a laptop, like rw airline pilots all around the World who use it in every slot they have among their RL flights 😜, at the airport, in the hotel room, ... 🙂

@Lord Farringdon, not joking about your post !  Actually bandwidth occupation is also something that bothers me, and I have been thinking about how much my monthly consumption will escalate when I start to use 2024 (?)

initially will use both until all the things I use are in MSFS 2020 then its good bye, I have a separate drive for both so they will be isolated

I'm confused....

Here you state that you are thinking about monthly consumption increases WHEN you start to use MSFS2024, and yet in the "other place", you stated

Yep, meaning I do like what 2024 potentially will offer, but after watching the videos from the early tests by some simmers, and reading about how it'll operate, I started thinking that maybe my home connection will not be at the best level.

Yet, that post above regarding the possibility of actually downloading more than just the preconised 50GB gives me some hope.

Great that you closely follow my posts !  I feel flattered 😁

I may revise my original and plan on being on 2020 for a few months as opposed to a few weeks.  Looks like the developer SDK is not coming out until later in october.  The concern will be how long my addon planes (And possibly scenery) will take to be ready for 2024.

I'm very tempted to backdate 2020 to the 1930's for my vintage flying and keep 2024 as my modern sim.  I did that with 2004 and FSX.
