November 11, 20241 yr Referring to the various comments re L1011 navigation. Some did have a moving map located between the INS control panels, where the lower EICAS is on a Boeing. They were black & white & very unreliable. Most were removed fairly early in the a/c life. Another thing well before its time on the L10.
November 11, 20241 yr I am no fan of early generation airliners so will leave this to those who have a passion for them. Bruce Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
November 11, 20241 yr The speed of this developer is just incredible. I hope it’s not a case of quantity over quality, but so far they seem to be doing ok. This rapid expansion and rapid development pace business model seems to be working for them and other developers seem to have been caught napping and are moving at a snails pace in comparison. November 11, 20241 yr The pic on FSElite shows a -500 I think. It has the 'Frisbee Fairing' under the centre engine intake. I worked for Court Line, and think ours were -1. Used to fly to St Lucia from EGGW Luton, via Gander. Outstanding aeroplane. Edited November 11, 20241 yr by jonesrob Spelling Rob Jones.
November 11, 20241 yr I remember during my childhood Gatwick used to be absolutely full of them, BA and Caledonian (a subsidiary of BA catering to the holiday charter business). Many family holidays to Spain and Portugal in the 1990s we were taken by a Caledonian Tristar, including one unfortunate event where we had two rejected takeoffs followed by a 14 hour delay in Alicante while Caledonian sent another one out to get us. While advanced for their time, by the late 1990s these old birds were getting very long in the tooth and increasingly tired and unreliable. Caledonian eventually disappeared and replaced by JMC (later and more well known as Thomas Cook Airlines) with a more modern Airbus fleet and the Tristars were all scrapped. This will be a day 1 purchase for me! November 11, 20241 yr These old aircraft are great and all, but unless they implement an engineer in a clever way to reduce workload and make flying it practical (and fun) for the average user, especially on online networks, it won't work. I assume they have done that Edited November 11, 20241 yr by ErichB

Also one summer in Alicante our Caledonian Tristar return to Gatwick was delayed (never showed up) resulting to a bus to a hotel for a few hours in the middle of the night. It was a great adventure!
November 11, 20241 yr The Captain Sim version in FSX/P3D had a good flight engineer panel that was easy to operate. Mainly used for pre-flight/startup I seem to remember, so shouldn't be a problem for the average simmer. I think the Just Flight one was much the same. The INS panel was a bit more fiddly but straightforward once you got used to it. Rob Jones.
November 11, 20241 yr I hope they do all the L1011's because its such a unique airplane and each variant designed for a specific mission. It might be a difficult bird to do though because you had so many changes during its production. The 500 having the shorter fuselage and I believe later production versions had a slightly wider wingspan for example. I don't think anyone has completely taken it on. Maybe a developer way back for FS2004 did but that was a long time ago. Aerosim I think!
November 11, 20241 yr Tristar - Now that's a proper classic airliner! I like it. With PMDG bringing 747 classic, it seems developers are now focusing on retro airliners which is change. I do like flying classic retro airlines - no FMC and advanced computers or magenta lines. Although Tristar I think later was equipped with FMS - someone can correct me though if I am mistaken. November 11, 20241 yr I have always had a soft spot for the L1011 so this release is something I will follow with great interest. Certainly the screams of 3x RB211's never disappoints. EASA PPL SEPL + NQ / CB-IR in progress MSFS24 | X-Plane 12
November 11, 20241 yr This is the first aircraft I ever flew on. Even though I usually only simulate current realworld operations I might make an exception and get this one.
November 11, 20241 yr I don't usually fly the older aircraft but this one just looks really nice! I've always like the one with the engine in the tail lol.
