MSFS2024 Release Week: What to Expect from PMDG

Featured Replies

I am glad to read the 737 MAX still has a pulse.  I expected it to fade into a big black hole never to be mentioned again.  If I was iFly I would announce the other MAX variants like now just keep that PMDG version on the back burner....HINT HINT!!

As for the rest of it I am not sure how I feel?  Historically and naturally a developer is going to support the latest platform.  This is what I am seeing here.  I estimate sooner rather than later 90% of the flight simulator users will migrate to the new platform.  Unless FS2024 is a total disaster and that is doubtful we won't here much more about FS2020.  Its just how it is.  Hopefully the compatibility rumors hold true since I have a fairly large investment in FS2020.

One thing I hope happens is if the NG gets redone for FS2024 and they expect me to pay for it I would like a non winglet model.  All the other developers are making both versions and PMDG should be doing it as well!

I am really, really angry at their 747 & 777 FS2024 only policy.  I miss the 747 sooo much.  I knew they were going to do this though and made such comment on a different thread with different subject not long ago.  This is exactly what they did to the 777-200ER.  Released it and didn't do a word not allowed thing after.  Pathetic a dominate DEV like PMDG could only release 3 products in the life span of FS2020.  Less talk about how much you're doing PMDG and start showing it.

100% agree. I currently run 3 sims on my pc with almost every pmdg product spanned across them. I'm not running FOUR. PMDG might as well announce an Asobe /Xbox partnership the way this is going.

Wait until the 737 /777-300er have fully working 2024 versions then I am fully confident they will immediately delete ALL 2020 products from their store page. They did it with their p3d products this year, the precedent has been set already.

I'm not sure about this and blaming PMDG - My feeling is more on Asobo spitting into the soup of multiple devs here.

Fenix just released their complete A3xx package, TFDi MD-11 was just released 4 month ago, Aerosoft A330 was a panic release, iFly just released the MAX, Bluebird 757 did not manage a release prior the MS2024, Majestic Dash8 - haven't heard anything lately, A2A managed a single release and even Carenado had a limited output in my opinion. Maybe constantly changing SDKs and locked sim-variable access (looking at HiFi and the weather engine) hasn't help with the developing of high fidelity projects neither. But obviously - study level aircraft need a lot of development time. And now after 4 years, Asobo is changing the base Sim. Furthermore, most of the devs are obviously not in the warmth like iniBuilds with (in my opinion) very late access to the new sim to even evaluate the compatibility of their respected products. (as indicated by multiple statements lately).

So - that a lot of devs are looking at their approach here and also maybe slowing things down to get a better look at MS2024 i can actually understand. Same for me personally - I have a good set-up now with the planes i like, a decent ATC solution incl. traffic control, a nice Navigraph/SimBrief integration and really good performance. I will not change to MS2024 before I can get a similar result. This approach will also help me to evaluate additional costs for possible upgrades of my existing add-ons. So - I'll wait with a beer in my hand and watch this thing unravel. I can probably wait for the first MSFS2024 Steam sale as I did with 2020.

Ya not sure what to make of your anger here.. as with most other devs, high fidelity aircraft take time to develop, and PMDG wasn't a standout here in quantity of aircraft released (esp airliners) in the span of 4 years compared to all the other big dev houses (i.e. they all released around the same low-ish quantity too). And as would be expected, any aircraft still in development will release for 2024, also taking advantage of 2024's new capabilities. As a user/consumer that's what I would want without a doubt, as will most others I'm sure.

I have no expectations about devs continuing to release aircraft that also works on 2020 into next year and beyond, and personally, couldn't care less 🤷‍♂️

If the DC6 works like it does in MSFS 2020, I wouldn't even bother installing it.

I don't understand your anger or that you are upset they only released 3 products in the lifespan of MSFS2020.  Especially compared to what some call the best add-on for P3D being FSLabs which couldn't even get a single product released.  Some developers just "missed" 2020 altogether.

Why are you upset the 747 is for '24 only?  Considering their 2020 products will move to 24 as well you will (eventually) have the entire PMDG fleet in 24.

How many products did you expect them to release?

I actually find this kind of fair and expected.  The products already released will continue to work but if it hasn't released yet it will be MSFS 24 only.  This also backhandedly answers a question some have had about "backwards" compatibility.  Products released for 2020 will continue to work in 2020 and will work "as 2020 addons" in 2024.

I also find this in line with what MANY of us having been saying for quite some time despite some people running around beating their chest that MSFS 2020 planes would seamlessly work in 24 and even trying to uses the A2A commanche thread to prove everyone else wrong.  Turns out some of us who have been around here for 20+ years may have seen this coming...

So again, what are you so angry about with PMDG?

  • PMDG 747-400 & PMDG 747 Classic Whale & PMDG 737MAX: These products will be MSFS2024 only, and thus not subject to any upgrade implementation.
  • PMDG 777-200ER, PMDG 777-200LR: These products will be MSFS2024 only, and thus not subject to any upgrade implementation.
  • PMDG 777-300ER: This product will be upgraded with an MSFS2024 version made available. We do not yet know if there will be a charge for the upgrade, but if there is it will be quite small. (My preference is no-charge, but the work load must still be evaluated.)
  • PMDG 737NG Series: This product line is receiving a significant upgrade for MSFS2024. We do anticipate that an upgrade charge will apply for customers who want access to the new MSFS2024 features. The charge will be modest for the upgrade, but it will not be a "new version purchase" if you already own the 2020 version.

This is pretty much on par with what I expected of them. The PMDG 737-800 was my first purchase from PMDG because I wanted to get into study level aircraft. Been eyeballing the iFly Max and wonder if they will make other variants of the Boeing aircraft. That and depending on how complex the Asobo Max is I may not need to make another PMDG purchase again. I'll keep an eye on the reports others given testing their aircraft out in the new sim and make a decision based on that.

So no 77F for MSFS2020? Well why did I expect anything else from RSR, it's just my own fault

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

It's no good when a developer doesn't want to or can't solve the problems with their products.

That's my only disappointment.

But then again the expectation is that it will be the first PMDG  release on the new platform which will help me make the MSFS2024 migration faster so ... meh ...

I assume even though the listed 2020 products work in 2024 we’ll still want to wait for new installers?

History likes to repeat itself they say. I wonder what will come to fruition from all his promises that he listed. Seen to many sim changes and his promises about cross platform and backwards compatibilities that never happened.
