but with the vast Azure resources MS has they should've overestimated.

After chatting with a friend at MS, he mentioned it's been tough for cloud providers to keep up with storage capacity needs. It's possible Asobo needed to request this storage a month in advance... and for all we know the data required could be in the hundreds of TB's or even PB's... Not something that is easy to just double, so I'm guessing Asobo has been trying to make this work with what they have. And somewhat successfully, since I just hit the main menu in about 5 minutes 😀

Over 12hrs and $200 later. I still can't even get to the main menu. I'd rather play Fallout 76 on launch day at this point. At least I get to play.  Something.

ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING / i9-9900k @ 4.7 all cores w/ NOCTUA NH-D15S / 2080ti / 32GB G.Skill 3200 RIPJAWS / 1TB Evo SSD / 500GB Evo SSD /  2x 3TB HDD / CORSAIR CRYSTAL 570X / IPSG 850W 80+ PLATINUM / Dual 4k Monitors

apparently it's fixed and they're metering entry.

successfully ?  there are thousands of people that can not start the thing; and they better fix it asap; as is now they sold and unplayable game.

I’ve been VERY annoyed like the rest after anticipation of the release and paying $200+.

But putting on my “half glass full” hat, I guess overwhelming demand is a good sign, especially for those of us who sadly almost gave up flight sim altogether after ACES studio closed (I nearly did until a chance sighting of an ad for Orbx’s Orcas Island lured me back).

Strong demand is ultimately going to mean good things for content etc.

Maybe even a DC-9 someday?

In the meantime, MSFS 2020 works, the XP12 latest beta is incredible (IMHO as a 27 year hobby veteran) and my new Atari 2600+ unit plays the copy of “Barnstorming” I bought off of EBay just fine at a silky smooth 60 FPS (no queue needed, and just one yellow biplane to choose from, but you do have to clean the 40 year old crud off the cartridge with rubbing alcohol first).

Plus, I have food and safe water and a bed and job and spouse and no current viral infections etc.  AND my spouse poured me enough Tanqueray gin at dinner to not worry about this failed launch today. 😂

You can change the location of your packages folder in the 'My Library' menu (it's a tab in the marketplace) by clicking on the gear next to the search bar

But can you change the location of the community folder that they put in the system drive?

If this goes on much longer I'm doing a charge back. I don't take kindly plopping down $200 for a product I can't use

That is what I'm talking about. The Packages folder contains the community folder.

Have patience. It will probably be a few days for things to settle down.

Did you get just the standard version working, or the deluxe or premium, because that requires backing out of the sim first, then going back to the store and installing those.

I got the first phase done and was able to tool around for a bit, but as soon as I realized that the premium deluxe content wasn't loaded, I exited the sim and started the install process again from the store and got all the way to the 97% (where I have been for the last 6 hours.)

I had the same issue. PC shows 10.2 hours of play time and I haven't gotten into a flight yet.

A long time ago, I read a comment that Avsim was run off a 486 laptop in Tom’s garage.

1. Can anyone confirm if this is true?

2. Is it also true that MS/Asobo rented part of this laptop’s server bandwidth for the MSFS release?

3. Would it help if we all posted less on Avsim for a few hours so that people can download and fly the new sim?

4. Moving forward, streaming is going to be kind of important. Have MS/Asobo/Avsim considered buying a second laptop?

"There are three simple rules for making a smooth landing. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are."

Finally got it. File a flight plan from Simbrief - saved as MSFS file and loaded in the nice EFB planner. Flying ASOBO's Max 8. At the Jetway from CYWG. This is the airport I purchased. I think.Wow. Clean. Fast. But so far this is looking and loading great. Are most/ all of our purchases from the market place available? If not and this is a ASOBO creation it's very nice. Anyway going to spend a lot of hours this evening.

Bet those that deleted 20220, wish they hadn't now. Off to fly the Fenix for a short flight

I deleted MSFS 2020 a long time ago and happily prepurchased MSFS 2024.

The problem isn't just with Asobo and /or Microsoft.

It's also with customers who actually expected that a game that is being concurrently downloaded by millions of gamers is actually going to work from day one.

Patience is a virtue here. Come back in a couple of weeks or even wait until next year.

It's not really an important issue at all. It's a game. Play other games. Or play Stalker 2, which is being released today.

Been playing for a few hours. I forgot how bad the default airports look. Going to be a while until I fully move over to 2024.
