MSFS 2024 has been released!

Featured Replies

I find it very unstable so far - it crashes on trying to load a different aircraft from the free flight menu. Also maybe I don't remember the struggle from 4 years ago, but I'm having a rough time with key binds and assignments. Early days....

The keybinds work well. I use only a very few of the default assignments and made dozens of changes. But I learned how during the alpha, so I was prepared. One problem is the GUI is all different and it takes trial and error to see how to accomplish your tasks of programing the controllers.

2024: the trees look better and more like trees. the lighting, especially in the clouds looks much better. the night lighting is much better. the water movements look better. the dirt, snow, mud, smoke all look and behave as if alive. the GA planes feel more lively and real but also easier to keep stable like they do in real life. the blackshark conversion of the earth was good but that in 2024 is better. the different seasons look better. the activities to do are better. the ATC is better. the people and vehicles at airports and on highways are better.

I noticed all of the above in alpha. It is just about identical in the release, except the ATC has improved over the alpha. the ATC is still primitive and unrealistic but better than the alpha. the pilots and copilot avatars are better. if you fly airliners none of this is earth shaking. it is for GA fliers like me.

Have you guys noticed there aren't seasons implemented?

Where is the custom graphics detailed section? We have a short allround menu only?

Oh wait dropdown waterfall lol have to get used to new UI.

After starting it a first time, it's now again in the loooooong loading process and I'll have to shut it down and go to work 😕Maybe later tday I can manage to actually run it...

how to turn on AI pilot?

Even though impressions for some are underwhelming, at least you can run the thing! So far I've crashed 4 times on startup. The one time I did get in, nothing was loading up. I just clicked through the buttons and eventually managed to get to free flight mode. Well...

I think I must have clicked the wrong button in Xbox as this looks closer to Minecraft than it does FS 😑

It seems like regardless of the time of day it's being hammered. Even the airport lookup is broken for me. I think I'll leave it a couple of days and come back to it then.

Surprisingly, my install didn’t go too badly. Yes, had to,wait in a queue, and it crashed the first time with the avatar selection. But overall, not a complete disaster.

However, still haven’t got to fly yet because when I select an area in free flight it just seems to take an infinite time to load.

Anyone else find it gets stuck when loading into a location for free flight?

"There are three simple rules for making a smooth landing. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are."

I finally got in, the problem is lessening only because of how late it is.

I am not a fan of the new color over the topography from what I've seen thus far, but I'll try to hold back from forming my opinion. It does look cleaner because it slightly neutralizes the colors, but the color looks much more fake and cartoonish than it did in FS 2020. The color filtering doesn't seem to affect all aerial imagery the same, so i guess it depends on where you are flying.

The color is really odd around Walla Walla, Washington though, very cartoony as I noted.

That's just one gripe, there are good things which I'll hopefully discover later. Need to fly more areas.

I pity the entitled I WANT IT NOW generation.

all AAA day one releases are bad these days so no-one should be surprised, though this has been particularly calamitous

but it's not childish "I WANT IT NOW entitlement" to want something you just paid north of £130 for to work as expected

yes, I just gave you a large chunk of cash, and I do expect it to be delivered relatively soon after you took that money

basic consumer rights, not some childish tantrum

Is it just me or is the daylight lighting making everything. Washed out looking? The contrast in the ground seems dull at best. The colors really aren't "popping"

ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING / i9-9900k @ 4.7 all cores w/ NOCTUA NH-D15S / 2080ti / 32GB G.Skill 3200 RIPJAWS / 1TB Evo SSD / 500GB Evo SSD /  2x 3TB HDD / CORSAIR CRYSTAL 570X / IPSG 850W 80+ PLATINUM / Dual 4k Monitors

Not just you, the color filtering is too strong, it's altering the base colors too much I think is the issue.
The color and lighting looked better in FS 2020 in Washington State for instance.

At least the parts I flew in. In Alaska it's a lesser difference, but it's there slightly, not nearly as bad.

If you are flying in real time with the current date set I sure would hope they don't.

It's November after all.

Nope, I'm flying NE of Denver Intl right now where the Ortho used to have really nice color before and I set the date to May.

It's very bland looking, it was really green before.

Trying the flight planner: https://planner.flightsimulator.com/ (while waiting for it to load, obvs)

It doesn't appear to estimate fuel. Seems you have to enter average fuel burn yourself. Changing aircraft doesn't appear to make a difference. Any ideas?

And the "save new plan" button doesn't seem to do anything.
