Back to MSFS 2020. I hate this stupid GUI

Makes sense. Maybe you're running into some bug that's screwing around with your settings.

Dont get me wrong: 2024 looks amazing despite some twitchy sensitivity of some of the planes. Look forward to it being fixed. At least we dont have to downgrade ourselves to other simulators we no longer have.

Looking at you, Goat Simulator! 😁

  • To this day, I have never, ever understood why it has been so difficult for Asobo not to have created a simple, straightforward camera system. You move your viewpoint to a required custom position via

I am still struggling a lot to understand that system. I assigned a key to get an outside view ("cockpit/external view mode") and another one for the drone ("toggle drone"). When I am switching to the external view I can come back to the cockpit by pressing one of my assigned cockpit-views or by using that same key again. But when I am switching to the drone-view and then to another external view, the view gets stucked in a weird view I haven't programmed (or have assigned any key): seeing my aircraft from above. And after that I cannot go back straight to the cockpit anymore. I have to scroll through different views before.

I am just trying to do a very basic thing: having a key that brings me straight back into the cockpit, doesn't matter in which outer view I am. How do I do that? And what is that view I get stucked into (that I haven't assigned to any key)? How can I prevent this view to appear? I just don't understand the logic...

Not sure there is a huge amount of logic there, and I don't understand half of the Drone Camera stuff, but I do use it a lot with just some basic controls. I have the same view popping up on my system if I try to switch to external or cockpit view without first hitting the "Toggle Drone ON/OFF". In other words I have to explicitly switch out of drone cam mode first before I can go back to the other modes.

There may be (probably is) a better way to do it but that works for me. At the moment, I'm trying to really get to grips with the various camera view options rather than just copy across what I did in 2020, as I'm sure there's a whole bunch more I could be taking advantage of. Not helped by the pretty much total lack of info that comes with the sim, nor the fact that they use some strange terminology for some of the descriptions, but I've got my cockpit camera setup running fairly well now, and hope to achieve the same with the other options like the drone, exterior etc.

@andy1252 Thanks! Am happy to see I am not alone. I hope we will find out how that works without having to use that intermediate step.

I have activated the MSFS 2020 keys, so the END key is toggling again between internal/external camera.

I did that too.  Yes, I finally purchased MSFS2024 last night and spent a good hour setting up a few key commands.

I would like to know why they changed some of the default keystrokes that we've gotten accustomed to over the last 4 years?  That seems non-productive.

But does it also work to go straight back from the drone view or any other one into the cockpit? I can switch beetween cockpit and external view but as soon as I chose another external view I cannot find a key that will bring me straight back into the cockpit.

Hi Franz,

You need 3 keys.
1 for Cockpit/External View Mode
1 for Toggle Drone
1 for Toggle Cockpit View

When you are in Drone View, press the Toggle Cockpit View key, and you'll be directly in the cockpit.

If anyone needs help with something just ping me with the @ryanbatc function...  not that I know a whole lot but ive got a few hours in settings things up etc.  Yes there are bugs.  Like a very annoying one on the PC24 - the gear will not retract!  How Carenado missed that is beyond me!  However, Matt from WT thinks its possible the latest PC24 did not get uploaded before release.  That sounds logical... annoying...but logical.

The GUI yes is new. It does need getting used to. The control bindings while unnecessarily convoluted, can be worked with. I sure everyone will overcome this over time.

These are my biggest gripes:

Give us an option to rescale/resize the GUI beyond the current smallest default size. We are NOT all on XBOX playing the title from 10 feet away from our displays. I bet there is a .json, .cfg, XML, file somewhere, that we can tweak to do this. IF there is, I WILL find it.

Give us back granular control of all vehicles in the sim with percentage sliders, as the previous versions of the title. Now, there are only two radio buttons in the entire sim's GUI to control AI default aircraft being either static or otherwise. This angers me to no end, I can't even begin to......

Anyway this.

It's not clear from your post, but are you aware that aircraft, vehicle, etc. density are now under graphics settings and can be set as OFF, LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH, ULTRA?

The problem here is (for me anyway) you can't set certain things seperately and with a slider (going from 0 to 100). For instance if you want to see parked aircraft from a greater distance you also get MORE aircraft. Not what I necessarily want. It's all or nothing in just 4 big steps.

First time since FS95 that I hate a flight simulator because of the dreadful GUI.
I'm gonna stop trying to understand the "logics" behind this piece of s...
5 hours spent and I still can't find the way to set views and to bind simple joystick buttons.
I will uninstall this poor piece of software and continue enjoying the beautiful MSFS 2020.
Flying 90% of the time liners, I don't care to see flowers and bees on the hills.

Let see if I can get a refund. If not, I will offer the 150$ spent to the poor Microsoft company, so they can publish an ad to hire a competent GUI manager.

And very honestly, there is no drastic evolution between the 2 simulators, just some cosmetic improvements here and there.
Nothing that justifies tearing one's hair out to set up basic functions and configure devices, especially when our efforts are punctuated by alerts concerning bandwidth and CTDs.

Long live MSFS 2020 !!!! 😄

As I've mentioned before, I suspect many elements have been designed by geeky designers who are not simmers. I suspect the first in the queue was given the GUI to design!

I am aware now, as I found this setting. However, It is not possible to remove static or parked aircraft, without also removing other objects or assets.

From a YT video I watched...V1-Simulations used Shift+C, I believe.

I believe what he is asking now how to get INTO the aircraft (which is btw "Take Control of the Character", but instead just jump into aircraft on first load, without having to press whatever you have assigned to that command.

Have been wondering that myself.
