Back to MSFS 2020. I hate this stupid GUI

I hope they add the option to remove chocks/covers in the EFB instead of getting rid of it completely.

This. Like automatically remove the covers etc. when you start the engine and the chocks when you start to taxi. Shouldn't be that hard to implement.

That's called realism. I though simmers wanted that?

You know... there's a balance, this is something that should definitely be optional.

Like everything, when it's too much, it's too much, so let people choose how "realistic" they want their simulator to operate. The same can be told about time acceleration, i would never use that but since it's optional, i'm very happy it's there for whoever wants to use it. Don't force things on people, it's bad practice.

You are missing the mandatory removal of covers and chocks...

I fully agree. Realism is nice but there is a limit. Still, I do like to be able to walk around, also after landing! I used to do this (getting out of the plane) the hard way abusing TrackIR but this works a lot better, obviously!

I’d like to offer a perspective on the original post. While some might view it as overly critical, I believe the OP's frustration comes from genuine disappointment rather than an intent to offend. As a veteran simmer with decades of experience (FS95!), his expectations are understandably high, and his concerns stem from a passion for this hobby.

It's important to distinguish between criticizing the product and attacking its adopters.

The OP is not disparaging MSFS 2024 users; rather, he is sharing his personal struggles with the GUI. For someone who has spent countless hours in flightsim, these difficulties can feel like a step backward.

Let’s also remember the OP’s age and experience. At 66, he's seen the evolution of flight simulators over the years. His feedback, even if harsh, reflects a sincere desire for improvement and ease of use.

Criticism and praise can coexist, which makes this community great. I myself have been around since 2010 [with another banned account LOL], and I would feel the same thing were I in his position.

It CAN'T be any worse than MSFS2020's control bindings setup.

It is: at least in MSFS2020 you can select an input from a dropdown menu. In 2024 there's no such option.

Actually, there's a way: at the right of the assignments, there is a cog icon, for detailed settings. If I enter there, to the left there's a list of all available buttons and axis for the controllers. You may need to scroll down to the correct button and select it.

Tedious? Maybe. Still worse than MSFS2020? I think so. Showstopper? Not anymore, fortunately.

Now there's the issue of reliably extend all controller settings to all aircraft.

Anyone outside the US/Canada is currently not getting a proper experience of the sim.

I guess you mean anyone flying outside these countries. If not, could a VPN connected to a US/CA server fix that?

Yes, many people have reported good results with a VPN. Plenty on these forums too.

Hello David, I found all the aircraft hyper-sensitive to pitch, roll and yaw using my cheapo Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick.

I had to adjust the joystick's control sensitivities in the sim and now the aircraft feel very realistic to me. The aircraft has weight now and handle beautifully.

The sim just comes with a baseline setting, it's up to us to adjust our various peripherals.

Try these adjustments for all three axis'.

JOYSTICK LAXIS Y

JOYSTICK RAXIS Z

Sensitivity - -0.6

Neutral 0

Ah.....the "adjust axis sensitivities" solution. Well, you can to a limited extent slightly improve things that way, but it's all a bit of an illusion. All you are doing is covering up the flaws in the flight model. I won't go into details as I've flogged that subject to death over many years, but I hope people realise that David Roch is an exceedingly experienced professional pilot and can see a dud flight model when he comes across one.

Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page

I set aileron, elevator, and rudder sensitivity settings exactly the same as 2020 and the controls now feel very similar, if not exactly the same.

Thank you Rob, I also have a lot of respect for your work.

But you're wasting your time my friend.
Young people today prefer to follow the advice of their idols on social networks, these "RL pilots" who take advantage of the largesse of Microsoft & Co in exchange for biased videos on YT. These same pilots who do everything to disgust you with a competitor of their sponsor or to convince you to buy this or that product on which they receive royalties. They abuse the prestige that their profession gives them by taking advantage of their audience's credulity.
This is how it is, this is what we call "progress".

20 years ago I was very active here on Avsim where I helped young pilots learn and understand all the components of the fantastic world of aeronautics.
To broaden the interest of young people for aviation and being French by birth, I opened the French section of Avsim under the patronage of my late friend Tom. This section still exists.
I helped some developers test their products, I advised them freely. I was working 50 to 60 hours a week and spending a dozen hours here sharing my knowledge voluntarily.
Today on this same forum, some insinuate that I am contemptuous when I use the word "Frenchie", that I am self-centered, that I do not know much about aviation or that I do not think about encouraging the younger generations.
That's how it is, the world has changed.

I love the new UI

Same here. I figured out the new GUI in under an hour.

I had three questions (how do I walk around the cockpit and cabin; binding and saving camera views; changing the location of the community folder).

- I got answers to all three of my questions quickly.

It's not the general GUI that I dislike, for the most part it was fine, just took a little bit of getting used to like 2020 did. The reason I've left and received a refund was the fact that I couldn't set up my control hardware, and I see from various other posts that people are having the same problem. I will keep an eye on the forums and YT videos for now, and revisit 2024 in 3-6 months when hopefully I can setup my controls to work like they currently do in 2020.

Quite frankly, they have had 2020 out for 4 years, so have had plenty of time to make sure that the basics worked from day one.

Indeed....
From a smooth nice GUI to a ugly stutter GUI

MSI Tomahawk Z790, I7-13700K, DDR5 6000mhz, MSI 4090, 3x SSD 980 PRO, Corsair 360 Liguid CPU cooler, Corsair H1200V2 power.

Give it a chance. I'm sure that in a few months everything will be solved! They certainly didn't choose the right time for the launch.

I don´t find the GUI to be bad. It´s a new sim with a new look.

The Graphics setings GUI is almost like we know it from MSFS2020, and so are most sections of the settings menu's.

The menu that has changed the most, is the Controls setup menu.

I also had to spend quite some time learning the logic behind it, but once You have learned how it´s workning, it´s quite good.

Every keybind or axis has a plackard next to it telling: General, Airplanes/Rotorcraft/Lighter than Air, Specific.

These plackards hint´s to the 3 layers in the left most corner.

General settings are stored in for the top of the three settings - General.

General bindings are for everything that does not relate to any Aircraft control, like in the Tools, Cameras, VR, Menu etc...

Airplanes bindings are for all the various Aircraft controls, Radio, Lights, etc.

Specific bindings are for special items related to the selected Aircraft - f.ex. the CL-415 Firefighting Aircrats, Water and Foam drop system.

The good thing with the new Controller menu is that You can now make controller profiles per Aircraft, so once set and saved the particular created profile is loaded with the Aircraft.

Just be cautious to use the "Apply to all Aircraft" function, since if You do so with the "Airplanes" and "specific" settings, this will mess up Your previous settings for allready saved individual Aircraft settings.

I have only "Apply to all Aircraft" for the General Controls.
