Back to MSFS 2020. I hate this stupid GUI

Featured Replies

To this day, I have never, ever understood why it has been so difficult for Asobo not to have created a simple, straightforward camera system. You move your viewpoint to a required custom position via keyboard keys and save it! How is that so difficult? While this is possible currently, it is only available for 9 views. In aircraft such as the 737, I have found this is simply not enough.  I would respectfully suggest to those who have dived straight in with this sim, is to leave it, let the dust settle, read further feedback from other simmers, get on with enjoying 2020 and then retry once Asobo have got their bloody act together!

I'm not surprised by the UI either but the design choice IMO was to make it easier for those playing this on the XBOX. It's the same idea behind Apple software engineers making macOS look like iOS. Microsoft decided to go with consistency by making the UI the same on both the PC and XBOX. I noticed the Joystick bindings have changed for the XBOX version.

I think given current situation with the servers - It will take some time before MSFS 2024 is fully operational - many people have yet still load in, those who did manage to load in were then running into other problems like missing textures or planes that were missing and what not. Although I have not run the sim myself yet - from my observation from other people's stream when it does work however I think it is a great step up from current sim, there are bugs and errors but at this stage it is expected and I am sure this will be addressed in future updates. I am in no rush in installing the sim right now however I will keep an eye on its progress till then MSFS 2020 will do.

Right now I am just trying to figure out how to get rid of the co-pilot.

At the main menu, go the upper right where your user name is.

Click "customize identity" and on the Co-Pilot tab choose the first entry which is no copilot.

Ouch... you can't be serious because this simply isn't true. Okay, it may not work for you (yet) but the things it adds in comparison to MSFS2020 are significant. The fact alone that I can cancel my Navigraph subscription now (in favor of better charts!) makes MSFS2024 better already, for me at least. Add to that things like a universal EFB, the option create control profiles for specific planes... no, it's not justy cosmetic.

I don't think you can compare navigraph with what is currently available in sim - they are two different things. MSFS 2024 uses lido charts whereas navigraph uses Jeppesen charts and there is huge difference between them. As for the planner - it is not most efficient in my opinion, The routes you get out of it are weird or takes you where you don't need to go. I am staying away from it for the time being.

Besides how do you classify Lido charts as better charts then Jeppesen? (Of course every one has personal preference but what is the reason)

I do not have a lot of UX/UI experience, but from what I know I agree that this is designed for x-box, the layout and flow is very controller friendly. It is not a complaint, I understand whey they have done this and it is not a bad move, but it means I have to adapt!

they could have left the old GUI and add the new GUI as an option, just like you can choose between modern and previous flight model, or at least supply a KEYBOARD reference template. anybody found one or at least a manual?

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

Thank you! That is the last place I would have thought to looked so you saved me a lot of time.

I guess you haven't actually flown the aircraft then.

I like the new UI too.  Took me 10 minutes to set up my controls.  One flight so far and really like the turbulence effects.

Show us then, i'm yet to see anything anywhere that shows a massive shift. Where are all the screen shots? Anyone can watch streams to see its just the same even down to weird things like the glitch with water margins that have a glowing line around them which can be found also in Plague Tale by, ASOBO.

Hi Michael, sure, me too, but I believe that should be the default way of implementing views and do away all together with the pre assigned views. I think it just confuses people. In addition, sadly, for a reason that will only be understood by Asobo, the customised views are only available for 9 positions, as you have said. For me personally, I ran out of view positions for the 738, which I found is very easy to do.

You know, Bert, I was part of the Beta and I was VERY surprised by the hype around the "new" flight dynamics, the "huge" difference between 2020 and 2024 regarding ground handling, the fact that you "feel" the weight of the aircraft etc, etc...
I didn't share the hype at all but I didn't want to spoil the party. For me, physics was worse, way too sensitive, not realistic at all.
Maybe do you know that I spent 40 years in aircraft cockpits, military and civilian, I have some kind of experience on professional simulators and RL flights.
What I can tell you is that P3D was (is!) much more realistic than MSFS 2020 and 2024 in that matter.
No serious corporate flying school will ever use Microsoft FS for their students, never.
But that's another story :).

Well... let's continue with the GUI.

Well that is how i do it pretty easy 😉

Define the load and save camera keys/buttons then shift w/d/a/s (for forward/right/left/backwards) shift q/e (for up and down)
then when satisfied save with save camera key/button... I can even cycle through then or go to external.... So that worked just fine, other things not so 🤣
