Back to MSFS 2020. I hate this stupid GUI

Re the GUI, I wonder if it’s the old design philosophy that I sometimes attribute to all manner of different tech things, in particular, cameras. Often, a camera eg, can be beautifully made, feels great in the hands, but falls short, big time, when it comes to functionality and useability. I often think these kinds of products have been designed by designers and not photographers! A simplistic example, but I hope you get my drift. I wonder how many of the designers working on MSFS and in particular, the GUi, are actual simmers!

I think you probably nailed it. The controller settings GUI is definitely counter-intuitive and I'm afraid that alone could turn away a lot of potential new players or even old players.

It's hard to understand how the GUI could be designed in such a awkward manner, and you provide a perspective that could explain it.

  • I understand your frustration; there is a learning curve. The quoted statement however is simply not true...

  • To this day, I have never, ever understood why it has been so difficult for Asobo not to have created a simple, straightforward camera system. You move your viewpoint to a required custom position via

I haven't been able to get a chance to get back in since the issues with the servers but has anyone tried the replay system yet?  I'm curious to see how good it is.

Did Asobo/Microsoft include any instructions on how to use the new UI? A walk-through video? If they did, there should be no complaining until the instructions are read/watched. If nothing like that was provided, it is a failure for sure. They would probably just be assuming some user will make a Rumble video about it that gives some both good and bad instruction.

Love everything about the sim - except the GUI, the keybinding and camera junk. I've spent way to long trying another re-inventing the wheel particularly with the latter two. Please someone come up with an intuitive interface.

This is a hilarious post, mainly because I remember reading the exact same criticism of v2020 from all the set-in-their-ways Prepar3D simmers.

Who now, of course, are set-in-their-ways V2020 simmers complaining about v2024!!!

😂🤣😂🤣🤣

Change is inevitable.

"except from a vending machine", is, I believe, the full quote <grin>

As to the original post, yeah, it's different and I'm struggling on first attempts but I do actually like the look of it and do also remember trying to get to grips with it in 2020. I'll get there (we all will), but I just wish there were better (any!) documentation or help provided.

MSFS 2020 GUI still drives me nuts... I miss the P3D and earlier FS GUIs.  However, as much as I don't want to, change must be embraced.  Based on what I've read so far MSFS 2024 will be quite the change (again!).  My kids are anxious to get it.. I told them lets wait until January 🙂

About Win 10 and ore Win 11:

As a long time user of Win10 I can only say I disagree:
This August I build a new PC my own means bought the whole hardware and put it together.
And I went to Win11 with this PC and honestly had great concerns, I am very critical.
But I was taught better, best operating system ( in terms of Windows systems ) I ever had, not a crash from the start, great performance and a lot more I didn't want to go back - never !!

But that's just my experience..

cheers ☺️

I installed Windows 11 on all my PCs on day one. However, I had never had a crash, and I also had great performance in Windows 10, no real change on my high end system. So I have what I already had, except the Start Bar is in the middle of the page and not in the left corner. It's probably also the reason that Windows 11 has only 26% adoption while Windows 10 still has 70%. Microsoft's reasons for upgrading weren't compelling, and the market agrees.

Pretend to fly complex aircraft but not able/willing to master any kind of GUI, aren't simmers sometimes weird? Anything that beats a Boeing FMS is a good GUI.

I'd say it's the main purpose of a UI to *not* having to watch a tutorial to be able to use it.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

You know, Bert, I was part of the Beta and I was VERY surprised by the hype around the "new" flight dynamics, the "huge" difference between 2020 and 2024 regarding ground handling, the fact that you "feel" the weight of the aircraft etc, etc...
I didn't share the hype at all but I didn't want to spoil the party. For me, physics was worse, way too sensitive, not realistic at all.
Maybe do you know that I spent 40 years in aircraft cockpits, military and civilian, I have some kind of experience on professional simulators and RL flights.
What I can tell you is that P3D was (is!) much more realistic than MSFS 2020 and 2024 in that matter.
No serious corporate flying school will ever use Microsoft FS for their students, never.
But that's another story :).

Well... let's continue with the GUI.

Hello David, I found all the aircraft hyper-sensitive to pitch, roll and yaw using my cheapo Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick.

I had to adjust the joystick's control sensitivities in the sim and now the aircraft feel very realistic to me. The aircraft has weight now and handle beautifully.

The sim just comes with a baseline setting, it's up to us to adjust our various peripherals.

Try these adjustments for all three axis'.

impossible without forcing all users into the same GAME experience.

Which NONE of us want.

Yes sir, go from there and you can decide if you require more or less.

The good thing is that you can make these adjustments while flying and you can see the changes you make response quickly.
