I have returned to MSFS2020. I couldn't allow a company to sell me an unfinished product.

Paying $100+ dollars to be a beta tester, is something I have no interest in.

  • They should've made sure to have done a solid QC pass on the game before releasing.  Also, there's plenty of regressions, issues that were fixed in FS2020 that are still present in FS2024, becaus

This is right Mr Fuzzy. Remember in 2020 when we had aircraft that would turn left and bank right? Uggggh! It took them ages, but it was eventually fixed and now AI is mostly enjoyable to watch in MS2

  • All of these items are "genuine improvements to the Flight Simulator genre". How people rank them in terms of importance is up to personal preference. Nonetheless, these are all worthy advancements

I agree that 2020 is somewhat more reliable.. But there are still those who advise us not to expect too much from either sim regarding:

the default ATC,   ---use fshud

the default traffic, ------use aig liveries with fshud control traffic

the default weather ----use active sky

or the default planes. ----use fenix or pdmg

This is how I spent the last hour:

  1. Simbrief: plan a simple IFR flight from LFPG to EGLL with the A320v2
  2. Load the sim and start from gate C&D
  3. Import the flight in the EFB and file it with ATC
  4. Set up the flight on the tablet, INIT, FUEL, PERF, the usual stuff
  5. ATC: IFR clearance option is nowhere to be seen. Sigh, probably I should have imported the FP in the EFB when I was still in the world map, but I swear that at least once it worked from the cockpit
  6. End flight to return to the world map - FREEZE
  7. Close the sim with Task Manager
  8. Repeat steps 2-5 remembering to import the FP into the EFB from the world map
  9. ATC gives clearance, I start the engines and request pushback
  10. Begin taxiing to RWY09R
  11. As I reach a bridge, the aircraft bounces like a soccer ball and crashes despite the low taxiing speed
  12. The novel revolutionary "Back on track" feature puts me above the runway at ~150 knots with all the FMC data lost
  13. I quit for today and am about to start playing another game

But other on another thread (above this one) nobody want's 2020? I guess we have to wait.....5-6 months, until Asobo finish counting profit from 2024....LOL

I think his point is these things are built into the sim and you shouldn’t have to employ workarounds on day 1

Nah....some make big fuss about how 2020 should be deleted from PC and then open another thread how frustrating 2024 is....Not sure I get that....Go figure......

Why spend so much time and effort creating and developing half-baked elements that need to be replaced at the very beginning?

Apart from that they say it's a great sim.  Just use after-market replacements for all those elements and "eventually"  "they're sure" "it will be" a great sim.

Who's saying to not expect much from that list? Default ATC yes sucks currently, it's slated to be revamped later in the 2024 update cycle, was never promised for initial release. Default weather and planes are obviously improved over 2020 (where it was already good), and continue to be of unprecedented fidelity for "default" compared to other sims present and past.

What is it exactly we were supposed to be waiting for during that year-long period of hype?

Oh, here's a list:
- improved flight dynamics and CFD, improved aircraft creation/development tools
- much improved and revamped ground handling and related physics, water physics
- much improved ground details (which also goes hand in hand with the ground physics above)
- new atmospheric photometric lighting engine, ray-traced cockpit lighting
- default birds like the ini A330, ini A321LR etc which by all accounts are of considerable fidelity for default, along with the various other default birds that have improved FMs/systems/avionics/etc
- improved rendering of clouds, clouds density, clouds lighting, new cloud types, etc
- 24hr historical snapshot of the MSFS world (not just all the MSFS weather served for the past 24 hrs but also traffic/other data)
- seasons, 3D trees, multiple diverse biomes
- a default capable and complex flight planner, LIDO charts, etc
- native dx12 support
- better multi-threading
- aviation activities, and related new physics (soft-body, load carrying, etc) and interaction with flight dynamics
- an already payware-grade avionics suite default in 2020 further improved in 2024.. and new Primus Epic 2 & Universal UNS-1
- new default EFB, improved default systems, wear and tear
- more and diverse type of AI traffic aircraft types and better livery matching
- thin client

The last item on above list is the buggiest of all the new features... the rest from all accounts are the real deal and made it to the initial release as promised, mostly working save for minor bugs, and are anything but just "hype"

Actually I just installed BATC and bot even through it can I get Clerance to work 😕😕😕

Maybe I'll pay for the fshud upgrade to 2024... Meanwhile time to test xp12.1.3b3 ATC...

Have to give fs 2024 and myself some rest for how, otherwise the uninstall cycle can start... 🤣🤣🤣

You're far ahead. I just spent my previous weekend for setting up the controller.

Been trying for a week with no joy...some advice? Maybe a good tutorial on Youtube? Tried many but no result, but maybe it's my brain that can't handle the task. Thanks

Wonder how you were trying to get it done then. You did add your SimBrief ID? You did load the flight (in BATC)? You did contact Departure (or whomever is in control at your airport)? Can't imagine not being able to get clearance with BATC... Must be a user error. 😉

Will try again and report back. It's probably a "finger índices problem" 🤣

No kidding.  I have spent about 3 hours setting up controllers and 2 hours flying so far.

Are you forgetting that MSFS2020 was unfinished at launch, and still is (witness the continuing updates)? The difference is that MS2020 is now 4 years old and MS2024 is 12 days old.

I'm hoping that new 4TB nvme I just bought will keep my Uninstall urges in check.

AND I'll finally have enough room to have all my sims installed with ALL(?) my scenery, too!

I like planning an interesting route in Little Nav Map, firing up the sim, selecting ANY aircraft with the G1000 and finding you can no longer use the key board to enter the plan.

No problem, I’ll spend an extra fifteen minutes twiddling the knobs and then find you can no longer tune Nav frequencies.

Ho hum…

You can load the pln file via the EFB tablet.  You may need to scroll down to see the option..

Yeah, I’ve been using the EFB more and more. It’s a really nice feature.

I’m still having trouble with ILS and picking up glide slopes.
