December 6, 20241 yr I know there are a lot of issues just now with MSFS20204 but I wasn't prepared for how bad it was. Decided to do a proper full flight in VR in 2024 using a known short route between Dundee and Edinburgh. Things started off okay but only 5 mins into the flight I noticed the ground textures start to fall away and be quite low resolution. I hadn't noticed at first but the landscape seemed quite bare and I wasn't noticing much in the way of trees and buildings. About half way through the flight, the ground texture was exactly that, just a single large blurry mess of colour, I don't just mean low resolution, I mean no resolution or detail at all. I also noticed with the moody clouds in live weather that the horizon had a horrible light shimmering to it. Finally on approach to Edinburgh, the city of Edinburgh was completely missing. No buildings, roads, trees, hills or any kind of surface detail. Looking forward, the airport was missing, just the runway and taxiway lights. Come in to land and it just looked like a row of lights in a field with a single, low res aircraft model off to the side. The whole flight was also punctuated with warnings that live aircraft data could not be retrieved. Closed out MSFS2024 and went straight into MSFS2020 and did the exact same flight with the same live weather. What a stunning experience, everything looked gorgeous, no stutters or warnings, no weird horizon glitches and even the environmental lighting looked more than a match for 2024. My 2 week Game pass trial expires on Monday and I will not be purchasing 2024. Can't believe how poor things are at the moment. Will be keeping an eye on how 2024 progresses but it really should have been as good as 2020 as a baseline. Ryzen 9800X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB, Win 11. MSFS2020. Moza, MFG, Fulcrum & Virpil controllers. December 7, 20241 yr I also got the gamepass for three months for just 21€ for this reason. This is like fsx, I remember developers promising free upgrades, me buying new versions and spending the rest of my time in fs2004 uninstalling fsx. I really enjoyed the test alpha version, fastest loading times, no ctds… But I’ve not been able to fly as I want with MSFS24 since release. Everytime I have a different problem, scenery stucked at loading in third party updated airport, same in some of the defaults one, Preflight in my fenix is ok but suddenly you got a ctd, no soul aircraft from inibuilds interest me at all, and now a ctd or stucked situation is enough for me to closing msfs24 and get my hardware out of my desk and just employ my time in other things.
December 7, 20241 yr Sorry to continue hearing this, and for sure it'll take weeks (or months, I'm afraid) to MS/Asobo to put MSFS2024 in condition to be fully flyable as MSFS2020 currently is. Hopefully you all kept MSFS2020 installed in the meantime. On the funny side, in case you don't have a Navigraph subscription, you can still use the new web MSFS2024 flight planner to plan your flights in MSFS2020 😆 Cheers, Ed MSFS2020 Steam // Rig: Corsair Graphite 760T Full Tower - ASUS MBoard Maximus XII Hero Z490 - CPU Intel i9-10900K - 64GB RAM - MSI RTX2080 Super 8GB - [1xNVMe M.2 1TB + 1xNVMe M.2 2TB (Samsung)] + [1xSSD 1TB + 1xSSD 2TB (Crucial)] + [1xSSD 1TB (Samsung)] + 1 HDD Seagate 2TB + 1 HDD Seagate External 4TB - Monitor LG 29UC97C UWHD Curved - PSU Corsair RM1000x // Thrustmaster FCS & MS XBOX Controllers
December 7, 20241 yr Sorry to hear this. MSFS 2020 is a distant memory for me now. MSFS 2024 runs smoothly and beautifully here and I'm sure it will only get better. December 7, 20241 yr Well other than flight dynamics and weather effects I can't complain about FS 2024. Maybe because I don't use VR (?)... Smoother and amazing scenery. Weather graphics look better too... Now flight dynamics and weather effects/physics, not the graphics, still not there to the level of Xplane... December 7, 20241 yr You are comparing a simulator that is fully matured with a release barely 2 weeks in the past. After enjoying the atmosphere in MSFS 2024, there is no way I'm going back to MSFS 2020. I don't understand who throw in the towel after a few hours. Then, again, I've always been a "glass half full" kind of guy.
December 7, 20241 yr I am glad the Fenix and JustFlight RJ are in 24 or I'd likely have gone back to 2020. I love so many things about 2024. But, there is a bug with INI planes and subzero temperatures. Flying the a400 out of Alaska the throttles move, the marker on the display moves, but power doesn't advance. Landing on the tip of Alaska in the a330 last night I just stopped dead on the runway when I landed. I am probably going to be swapping back and forth for a while anyway until more of my airliners are in 24.

I know it is only a couple of weeks in but I don’t think it is unreasonable to expect a similar experience to 2020 as a minimum at this point in time. I also realise my experience may not be consistent with others but given each flight are plagued with issues, I personally see no point in using 2024 at this time. The 4,000 percent extra ground resolution makes 2020 look poor in comparison. Sorry to here you are not seeing 2024 at its best, it really is a brilliant upgrade to 2020. December 7, 20241 yr I've heard two different streamers say "perhaps the flight model hasn't fully loaded in" when having odd flight characteristics regardless of whether that was the case for them or not - is this even a thing?? is it possible if you have streaming issues that the aircraft flight model might not be accurate?
December 7, 20241 yr I think streaming issues have caused all sorts of random problems but when it's working it's gobsmacking. Live weather, south west England.... Edited December 7, 20241 yr by DD_Arthur

The fact that MSFS 2024 was only released two weeks ago is totally irrelevant to me. If it does not at least meet the standards of MSFS 2020 as it is now, then there is no reason for me to make the switch.
