Seeing that I fly exclusively in VR, 2024 with it's issues is a no go for me (never bought or installed it).  I'm curious about the 2D and VR flyers here on Avsim.

ya, same.  I use VR when I am ready for push back til the end of the flight.  2024 does not provide me with the performance or graphic fidelity I get from 2020.

The bottom line is the point has been made 2024 is not running away with the community.  If there's a better option in any way people will stick with that.  A new product has to out do what was there to be considered a resounding success.  Two places of reference now spell this out, our small sampling here and Steam in which I posted above.

OMG, really, 2024 is not running away with the community?  This entire thread reminds me of silly 'studies' you read about being done for masters'/PhD theses designed to substantiate the already OBVIOUS.  What the heck is the real purpose of this thread?  Everyone already knows it's not 'running away with the community' and really WGAF?  It is what it is, the launch is now WAY OVER, and it's improving steadily as fully expected and the backup sim remains fully functional.   This thread qualifies as:  very moldy....sour grapes....

I was just thinking the other day where Abriael had disappeared to. When I checked, his last post on AVSIM was on MSFS 2024 release day.....

Haha I checked on him as well. Absolute silence since the launch day meltdown. Wonder what happened 😂

FS2024 is obviously the sim of the future, but how far into the future? I live in the present so I use 2020. I purchased 2024 and someday I will install it. It looks like it has many improvements over 2020, but for now the bugs outweigh the improvements for me. It has made me appreciate 2020 more.

Nah. That poll is missing some options. Not all black and white here.

If I can fly it in 2024 without any issues then sure...I will leave it there.

If not, then I am sticking with 2020 until it works in 2024.

For now, I am stuck on the 97% loading screen

I had this after the patch. I ended up with some weirdness in the Community Folder that was an own goal. Maybe try pulling stuff out.

In my case, I miss-clicked in Addon Linker and enabled ALL my utility add ons from 2020. No wonder the poor thing died on lift off.

I don't need to limit to 60fps, that is a choice to maximise headroom.  I can maintain 100fps but I will then have occasional stutters as frame times will vary.  Have you tried RivaTuner to set a fps limit?

That wouldn't do for me. Occasional stutters ruin the immersion.

Pre-emptive caveat: The above statement applies to me. Other people will have other priorities.

..and that is why I concentrate on frame times rather than fps.

External Storage Three 4Tb HDs

This should not be framed as an either/or question. I am enjoying MS24, but still have MS20 and use it also because, for now, it affords advantages of stable, predictable, and relativity bug-free performance in comparison to MS24. So, I am using both sims and expect to do so for quite a while.

Sorry, I forgot to add this:

In case of any confusion: the above post is about what I like, and am looking for in a sim. In no way is it intended to refer to anyone else's experiences and priorities.

Wasn't 2024 supposed to be the sim of the future at release? Instead, it's a dumpster fire that should never have been released.

I'm glad the A350 is coming out for 2020 because it's more stable and doesn't suffer from the ridiculous memory leaks 2024 is experiencing. Imagine how much RAM and VRAM you'll need to run the A350 on 2024, probably a 6080 card with 64GB of VRAM.

I'm on 2020 still because I knew the airplanes I like wouldn't "just work" in the sim on launch day, despite many assurances otherwise.  They still don't, so that alone is a fine reason to remain on 2020.

But I see more and more, on the forums.  I was just reading a thread about the difficulty of achieving true minimums or below minimums visibility conditions because the approach lights burn through any amount of fog?  And you STILL can't specify a visibility value?  2020 released with these issues too, but at least the always-visible approach lights problem was fixed.  It is incomprehensible to me that 2024 could have released with the same issues.  They are fundamental flaws in anything claiming to be a simulator.

I haven't yet bought 2024 because I don't understand the point of buying something I'm not going to use.  I couldn't understand all the folks pre-ordering the sim in the weeks leading up to its release.  Were you worried they were going to run out of virtual licenses to sell 😉?  I'll buy it when it's in a state where I'll use it; no need to pay for it until then (and give the devs justification not to fix it.).

I have no doubt it'll become the future of the hobby, like 2020 did - eventually.  But it wasn't a massive improvement in terms of realism on day one - in fact, it was a step backwards in many regards - and unfortunately 24 seems to be the same.  When they get it there, I'll use it... Probably later next year.

Still can't specify visibility... What in the idiotic... [Grumble]....   😁

Agreed - the poll is fundamentally flawed by its limitations.

You know you can start your own thread and poll...😶

It is for me. I do not regret uninstalling 2020.
