Me: I'm getting significantly better performance than 2020. This is especially noticeable with the Fenix aircraft + lots of addons including FSHud ATC + AIG models.

Same here with BATC: I get about 20-30% more FPS on e.g. EDDF Addon with AIG/FSLTL models being used by BATC plus Fenix compared to MSFS2020. Together with AutoFPS, I get FPS Numbers I could only have dreamt of in MSFS2020. Only issue: if the VRAM is hammered, it quickly becomes the same stutterfest as MSFS2020.

Greetings, Chris

  • Allright here we go... drumrolll... MSFS2024 vs MSFS2020 performance comparison! Situation: iniBuilds A320 Neo flying at 3000ft and 250kts from EGLL to EGLC.  Settings: 4K DLSS+DLAA, FG on,

  • I think it's time to stop thinking that your hardware and settings are the cause of stuttering and other existing problems. For me the major problem is their cloud server, no more no less. After FS202

  • When it's working for me, performance is better for me in 2024 than 2020. However, currently, 2024 CTD's on me about every third time, when I pick my aircraft (does not matter which one). That said, o

Having 2024 be a DX12 only sim is killing VR.  DX11 with TAA is the best for those using headsets.😔

Exactly my findings, Asobos coding for DX12 is still highly unoptimised for VR just as it was in MSFS2020, therefore performance is worse and that's with generally lower settings all round. 🙁

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

FPS are the same or sometimes a bit less than in 2020. But smoothness is much, much better. No micro stutters ar all. So for me performance got better.

10700k with 32 GB and a 2080 super. So not a very powerful pc. I plan to buy a graphics card with 16 GB of VRAM because VRAM seems to be the main problem for me.

Performance is better. Not by a wide margin but still noticeable.

I always run FS with RTSS stats ON.

Voted better.

It's better, and given the additional amount of default scenery detail and even better cloud depiction than in the latest ( post SU7 ) versions of FS 2020, it must be considered in my case a considerable upgrade in terms of performance, even using it with BATC or FSHUD and AI by FSLTL...

My settings range from Low to High.

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

Massive difference in fps between the two for me, with 2024 running at 60-70 fps on approach to EGLL, using the FBW A380. in comparison 2020 results in a stuttering mess, with long pauses every time.

Good question to ask but I'd be interested in everyone running the same scenario as each other in both sims on the same day, or else it's completely subjective.

For example:

Default plane (must be in both sims) from airport a to airport b using default weather (no addons at all) and gfx at highest level that gives smooth 60fps.

Also say addon plane like Fenix (that everyone seems to have) doing touch and go's at KJFK using a specified flight plan (same sid /star /way points) and clear skies.

VR/2d also must be tested separately.

I think running the same tests on both sims with same machine would make an interesting video hint hint 🤔😉📹😁

Here's a simple route KJFK 4L take off landing (winds good today!). 142nm round trip.

Flies around city so should be good demanding views for the sim. No SID/STAR for simplicity.  ILS 4L final no transition.

I have also noticed a significant improvement in performance. Complex airliners, 3rd party airports, live AI traffic, photogammetry ON, nothing is a problem and I rarely notice stutters or frametime fluctuations. FPS capped at 40 in Nvidia CP (giving me 80 FPS with Frame Generation mod from Nexus) and TLOD between 200-600 (using Reset's AutoFPS on default VFR settings). DLSS at Quality. Graphics settings on Ultra/High (clouds on high, trees at medium, raytracing off).

Russell is right of course, however a basic condition is your internet connection; mine (western germany) is absolutely stable 250 Gbit. MSFS 2024 needs 16-17 min. loading time, then mourns about low bandwidth and maintains incomplete textures: unusable/-enjoyable. Not happy with 2020, so ended with XP12.... 🤔

Pretty much worse. Not talking about load times nor any of that, just sim engine performance. More laggy, stuttery at times and generally lower framerates but this last one is not that much important really.

"better" for me.

In my case, this is mostly about smoothness. I'm not bothered about, and don't even record, things like frame rates etc. but 2024 for me is just way smoother. DLSS/DLAA, 4k, ultra, LODs set to 400 - all pretty much same settings as my 2020 system. My 2020 is pretty much ok as well, but will get occasional stutters there.

Plenty of irritations with 2024, but still what I'm mostly using now.

I'm sorry to hear that VR isn't working nicely for you, but I'm having a great time in 2024 VR. I've got the Pimax Crystal Light, and I had to turn the in app render quality down to medium which is a pretty dramatic concession to make. I also set the 90hz upscale mode and locked frames to half refresh rate, but I'm still getting solid 45 fps.

I voted better than 2020.

R9 7900X, RX 7900 XT, 64 GB, 250 Mbps.

You should post your settings in the VR forum as many of us including 'VR Flightsim Guy' feel VR is not fully realized in 2024.  Not having DX11 implemented basically hurting TAA has been a problem.

Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

Significantly worse than 2020.  Stutterfest, had to go a resolution scale down, still a stutter fest.  Lower LODs, lower everything.  I no longer play it.  Laptop with a 3080.

I'm perhaps doing something wrong but, with my specs below, I could fly in 2020, with everything set to ULTRA, on one monitor in 4K and maintain 40fps at most pay-ware airports.

I should note that I have never used any autofps mod in either 2020 or 2024 - mainly because they look to complicated for my simple little brain.

In 2024, my sim has auto-set my settings to HIGH and I am seeing 30-35fps at the same pay-ware airports - sometimes dropping to 25fps if I am in the drone.

So whilst I am really enjoying 2024 and using it exclusively, I personally have not found performance to be better than 2020.  I'm getting lower fps on a lower setting.

I was also under the impression that 2024 was going to make better use of multi-core, multi-threaded machines, but I remain limited by my main thread.

Cheers, Calum

Better than 2020 for sure. Better frame times, less stutters, not massive dips and drops because it renders large swathes of town beneath me, when I can't even see them. Also remember unusually large performance hits under certain weather conditions and stuff.

With 2024, set it to 90FPS with frame generation and I rarely see it go below that, only on ground when there's tons of injected traffic. Even with a ton of AIG traffic and ATC, it never drops to a level that effects enjoyment, like it could with 2020.
