Until AA is improved dramatically, I cannot get to like XP!

My eyes popped out after doing roll-eyes. I only can tell that you are missing out. If AA is more important than everything else close to FLIGHT simulation, than this forum is not for you.

BTW I fly in VR, with MSAA disabled and only FXAA Antialiasing enabled, and I'm enjoying the hell out of this sim. Follow me for more advices. 🙂

Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

  • Didn't take long for the first person to come in here posting something wrong...with a BETA.   Maybe I can rephrase your post, @efis007 "I downloaded it, understanding it was the first

I guess we won't be seeing you in here anymore then.  You'll be enjoying all software where the AA is up to your standards, instead of informing us of your intentions.

I had ALWAYS wondered what Torkermax had to say on this subject. Thank God and finally I no longer have to die lonely and ig.norant. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Torkermax. 💗

And Autogen is terrible. Now you can rest in peace. 😉

Ok some other things about this upgrade. There have definitely been some unannounced scenery changes, textures and mesh. So here is flight into York Island in the Torres Straight in Australia today. First the whole Torres Straight looked more than reasonable. (Still will need orpho to capture the extensive reef system there) But York Island had really changed - used to be a lot of daggy european trees a tar road with incessant traffic beside the runway and those stupid european street light poles. Not in 12.2 all gone York Island is now coconut trees, runway undulation is captured and roads and lights are gone. No other addon to do this so it had to come from changes within XP12.2 so looking up.

Yorke island was last updated in 2023: https://gateway.x-plane.com/airports/YYKI/show

And if there had been a global mesh update, you would have been told to update the global scenery.

The only reasonable explanation for such a change would be a modified default region or forest definition, but checking the "default scenery" folder, I can not find any evidence of any recently modified file that is not related to ATC.

maybe try turning off the g force camera, see if its that. probably worth a bug report.

On or off does nothing to improve the shimmering. I think we are dealing with a couple different bugs here, poorly designed VR implementation, or lack of good AA.

When I zoom into trees, I can see my viewpoint shacking. When I set my VR headset on the table and zoom into the trees, there is no shaking. So it appears that VR is way too sensitive to micro head movements. Anything associated with shimmers or bad AA will then be exacerbated.

Well, last night I have rolled back to the 12.1 stable release. Too many CTDs (it took 5 attempts to fly from Split to Dubrovnik on anything from AFL KA350 to HotStart CL650 to LES DC-3... All ended in CTDs. I even did a fresh install of XP with only aircraft and BARE minimum of plugins - Avitab and Terrain Radar, and that's it... No scenery whatsoever. But everything ended in CTD until I used default Citation X. I have submitted 3 reports (unrelated to this) on the beta, so at least I was able to contribute in some way. I will wait until Beta 2 comes out to try 12.2 again, but until then I need a little more stability - I never experience crashes on 12.1. This is, unfortunately, the first time I had to roll back the beta to stable. 😞Not complaining at all, this is what Betas are for anyway, but yeah... this one needs a little more time in the oven.

Did you look at the windows event log to see if there were any errors? I found a few crashes had to do with Windows 11 Secure Boot, windows showed it as off yet it was set to standard in the bios. Changed to custom and reset default and the issue is gone. Windows now shows on for the secure boot.

One other big thing I've found to get by the CTD's if they become repeatable, erase the shader cache and let XP12 create a new one.

I did empty the shader cache about 3-4 days ago and had CTDs since then... Good news is Beta 2 hasn't crashed yet. 🙂 So maybe it's all good now.

Bjoern - correct on the scenery seems maybe YYKI got a change of sorts - rest of the Torres Straight Islands except Murray Island are all still complete with busy roads and european lamplights and road traffic that would do downtown Berlin proud!

Not surprising, as X-Plane only has US and euro style autogen.

While you can't do much about road traffic levels in a given region (I think), you could create a custom roads.net and a custom region for the area to do away with the street lights.
