Product update and release schedule, etc., from PMDG

Featured Replies

If I were betting I would say more in the 25$-30$ US range for an upgrade fee. I am sure some people do not want to hear this but that is just my opinion if they have to do substantial upgrade work (and time invested) for 2024. PMDG do not work for free (and have to pay coders in the meantime)  for a cheap tipping market who expect everything for free or minimum fee. Can't say I blame them as they still have bills to pay.

I might be the only one here, but I am quite hyped for the addition of my beloved DC6 to FS2024.

  • Really, hasn't this been explained to death already.  Even Aamir from Fenix acknowledged if they had to wait on the WASM components of the SDK they would have been in the exact same boat as PMDG.  The

Economically good decision to release the -200 variant first for 2024. I bet several simmers cant wait and buy it just to get a 777 into 2024. People who might not pay again if the -300 would appear first (because it is free)

You guys are optimistic. It will definitely be much more since it is not just a simple update but basically a complete overhaul. My guess is it will be at least in the $49-$59 range, so just $10-$15 off from the original’s price. What they could do to justify this price tag is to bundle all versions into a single package. And it plays into their cards that basically it will be the first entry of the 737 in 2024.

I seriously do not think they are going as high as 49$ for upgrades (its not a complete rebuild) as people would be outraged and they can not bundle their products because of the in game Marketplace do not allow it.

I understand their forward plans. They are a business after all and need to balance their considerations. I'm 98% on 2024 now anyway. The same thing happened in the days of FS9/FSX.

It's similar in a lot of ways.  I remember there were a bunch of people who skipped fsx all together and stayed on FS9 then went to p3d later

With the Ini Airbuses I'm not even interested going back to PMDG unless PMDG make a 787...

Isn't PMDG's most frequently purchased plane in 2020 the 737 series?  Puzzles me why this is the last plane to make it into 2024!

I think recency is the reason, PMDG have been working on the 777 a lot over the last year+, its developers have it fresh on their minds, so they can probably pivot its assets relatively quickly to MSFS2024 as opposed to the 737 which hasn't been at the top of their development list since 2022-23.

Yes, totally. I do hope that whatever quirks/issues/bugs get handled quickly. I feel like the DC6 had some odd happenings for several years off and on. One of my favorite planes in RL but in the sim. Added a smoke effect mod so I can see smoke when the engines started. Coolest ever.

Someone mentioned the 737 series being around 3 years old. I think with whatever textures, sounds and features they improved will make it worth an upgrade fee. I should be quiet and just wait and be nice. I like their planes even though sometimes they take a bit longer to fix.

I stopped buying PMDG products after the 737NG for 2020. I've been a customer for 20 years. I don't value the company anymore. Better developers out there to spend my funds on.

I agree, but I wouldn't mind if they catch up. I would love to fly the 737 and 777 more often than I actually do.

Some of the items Rob mentioned sound very promising. These are the highlights for me. Manyother areas of the 777 have received attention, with enhanced velocity predictive methods added to the auto-throttle in order to improve speed handling and reduce throttle hunting in gusty conditions. The roll and pitch handling qualities have been improved, along with advanced mathematical modeling to improve pilot "feel" across a range of hardware input devices.

cheers,
NiIs U.

PMDG would do well to engage with their customer base - even just a survey about customer priorities.  I would assume the 737 is their most in demand product...at the end of the day if it's not, and people really want many different 777s and the DC-6 before the 737 in 2024 then so be it and I'll quietly go away and stop complaining about this, but I doubt that's the case.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  If MSFS is on a 4 year cycle with changes every cycle that makes porting aircraft anything but automatic, and / or if PMDG doesn't shift their development approach to whatever the devs that have aircraft working in MSFS2024 are doing, we'll never see the entire core PMDG line up working in a sim at the same time, which is unfortunate.
