The three most valuable posts in the topic.
It seems that even freeware is open to pointed critique and bad grace

Lol I think the issue is more that some people have standards and some clearly don't.

As for it being "free" '24 already has a stack of bland placeholder aircraft built-in from large developers already it doesn't need any more.

Instead get someone to make something interesting with some actual passion rather than this kind of slop.
The AN-2 wasn't perfect but it was clear the dev actually cared about the plane which is far more than can ever be said about anything from Carenado in MSFS.

  • I like JF but their original piper stuff is really dated.  I like to have superb visuals. I just don't understand why you hate carenado so much.  You're not going to A2A quality for Carenado pric

  • Finally finished my paint - took me a while longer than I thought!  But it's very red haha!  (Just the way I like them!) https://flightsim.to/file/94526/n9181w-for-carenado-piper-dakota-2024-only

The Carenado Pipers have an avionics master switch, while the Just Flight Pipers don't. I was wondering what is more common in the real world Pipers you guys have flown?

The 1978 Piper Arrow which the Just Flight version is modelling doesn't have an avionics switch.

I can't see information on what version of the Arrow Carenado are modelling but I'd guess a  80s/90s version ?

Ah, I see you know my wife.

I have revised my opinion from 'Junk' to 'Meh'. I like that they can use the Piper logo on the yoke and ruder pedals now 😁

Hi,

I took a pair of short flights with this Dakota. It seems OK to me.

By the way, how do you start the engine from cold and dark? The magnetos don't do it. I can't see any button to start.

Greetings

Hi,

Forget it!

It was the Prime!

Now it works!

I don't get why these planes cause such a fuss.  These planes aren't meant to compete with the A2A, JF, Cows planes.

I've got just about every high quality GA plane out there, so this isn't for me, but it isn't meant for me.

When I was early in my simming days, I learned on these simpler planes and expanded into the "big boys".

I guess I'm at the point where I don't have to time to attend to the engine so intently (how a2a or black square models them) nowadays with kids and life.  I'll buy every A2A and black square but I also love to just hop in do a quick runup and fly!  And then I don't have to worry about something breaking hehe.

I see St M changed his thoughts to "meh," I think that's more fair imo.  It has bugs but I really like the Dakota.  Plus there's a GTN 750/650 stack coming out soon.  I was hoping to put some G5s from the FSW Beech Sierra in but I don't think it's possible with sim attachments.

Tim and I are making a couple paints as well.  The default ones are fine but I prefer the more modern ones.

About the start from cold and dark, I can not get the engine to start, no matter what I do. Everything is done by the checklist. Even CTRL-E only engages the starter, engine doesn't fire. Any suggestions?

Cheers, Bert

Even if I personnaly fly most of the time by-the-book and enjoy more advanced GA add-ons, I also love to get immerse with my Tobii in these Carenado high quality 3D cockpit with superb hi-rez resolution.

Our sim community is becoming increasingly rich and diverse.

Definitely. The Piper doesn’t feel as engaging or immersive as a Cows, but there’s something about the indented gauges in the facia and leather dash shield which is quite satisfying anyway. Not my favorite, but I’m going to get some hours of fun out of it anyway.

The mixture is bugged. Even though it visually moves when you adjust it on a peripheral binding, it won’t register the move unless you move it with your mouse in cockpit view.

Just checking, have you removed the intake blanks? I only ask because I ddin't realise they were fitted and couldn't start the engine lol.
