Is it any less disconcerting though that this was an actual bug?  How much confidence can you have in a software development team, when a bug that is immediately apparent to 100% of the user base upon initiating any flight is released to the general public?

Hello @PlumCrazy,

The 1.6.21.0 build with this bug was never released to general availability (a.k.a. GA, the final SU4 release build). The bug was part of a pre-release test for which everyone has to manually choose to opt-in with the foreknowledge that these work-in-progress test builds are not final and will contain unresolved bugs and other issues.

Thanks,

SeedyL, MSFS Community Manager

It wasn't released to the general public.. it was released as part of an interim beta build to those who opt in to the beta, based on a snapshot-in-time of beta code, beta code that they've clearly warned users will likely have bugs in interim builds (though many here seem to treat beta builds as early access releases or stable releases). Depending on the nature of the code and their software release engineering and build process, this behaviour meant only for a specific flight mode can easily bleed into other modes as an unintended bug (like it did in this case). A full set of regression tests of all scenarios would've caught this, but since it's an interim beta build, such comprehensive testing is understandably not done. And guess what, even if caught, releasing the bug into an interim beta build is not the end of the world. For those who can't handle bugs and regressions, don't use betas 🤷‍♂️

Lets be real here: The Shift+C UI will intrude on you on EVERY flight.

The snow coverage you will only notice in summer and when you actually fly where there is no snow in real life at the moment.

Lets be real here: the UI stuff has NO effect on your flight, it is just annoying and immersion breaking until you start taxiing. The snow coverage bug however makes flying in wholesregions using live weather a joke, basically preventing the use of live weather two thirds of a year in e.g. all of the Alps. For me a clear winner regarding game breaking bug...

Try telling that to a content creator who can't handle a bug proceeds to beta test products.

And 2 days later that same Youtuber posts a video about how the flight sim community is too negative and how we should expect issues with betas. Give me strength.

Outstanding video! Hits the nail on the head. Very well said.

I believe he is a community manager on the official side of things like their own forum.

The "funny" thing (for me, it is more of a sad story...) is: the thread about this Shift + C nonsense quickly got over 1000 votes, while the annoying snow coverage bug present since they introduced snow into MSFS2020 is still creeping around below 300 votes and open since several years. It baffles me how priorities are set amongst simmers nowadays, they are obviously more disturbed by a Shift + C message than generally bugged live weather snow coverage. Interesting...

because its a gamer community now and not a simmer community.  The two groups are completly different.

The usual fallacy. The snow coverage problem is almost 4 years old by now as are the community feedback threads about it. Back then there was not even an X-Box release yet.

Frankly I’m beginning to prefer the gamer community rather than this elitist bunk. Not aimed at  you - the other guy who said it’s gamers not simmers.

The irony is, the over 1000 upvotes on the Shift-C bug on the MSFS SU4 beta forum is primarily from simmers, not "gamers."   Yet some people will twist what happened and claim it's a "gamer community now." 🤣

@fluffyflops one of the biggest complainers about the Shift-C bug is A330 Driver, so is A330 Driver a "gamer" or a "simmer"?

Please tell us @fluffyflops, whether you consider A330 Driver to be a "gamer" or a "simmer."
