PMDG 737-800 RELEASED!

Featured Replies

Is this a paid upgrade, or any discount?  Boris's prices are very reasonable, so I'm not too fussed but just wondering whether this is just a re-download (when it's released) of the MSFS2020 product, or a new purchase ("built from the ground up" style) 😄

Apols if the answer is in the video. It's too long so I just skipped to a few parts to hear the sounds.

Thank heavens.

Somehow im not really liking the new sound set. Some of the default sounds are unnervingly loud and abrupt in their presentations and one or two are pretty much nonexistent. I am sure PMDG will be looking at correcting some of this eventually but i may as well skip that song and dance altogether and just get Boris's implementation.

After all we are still waiting for the 777 sound set upgrade from PMDG...

To be fair, the Boris sound packages are not 100% perfect. The landing light switches on my PMDG 777F sound pretty faint and indistinct at times, and I can hardly hear the APU switch at all. I will be interested to hear the updated PMDG sounds when they arrive.

With respect to the PMDG sounds for the new 737-800, I really like them.

Considering I literally parked the three 777 products II purchased over their lackluster sound set if the worst things about ithe Boris set is a faint landing gear switch sound and a faint apu sound in the cockpit from an engine sitting covered up in the very rear of the plane I would conclude those to be the least of my issues with the Boris soundset. The bigger issue for me is wondering how much longer I would be waiting for PMDG’s promised sound upgrade if there was no other option available.

As for the 737. For me it’s serviceable but there’s a certain harshness to it. It’s not mixed very well in my opinion. Ground roll is loud, tyre scrape is immediately loud, engine shutdown sometimes gives a loud roar in the cockpit and I’m missing transients in the engine sound in certain phases of flight.

But I’m glad you’re happy with it

regardless. It’s good to have alternatives since we all place importance on different things.

cheers

Do not misunderstand me. I also parked the 777F until the Boris Audioworks package was released, and it is a massive improvement when compared to the original sounds.

That "tyre scraping" sound with the PMDG 737-800 is an interesting one. I have seen a few comments regarding this, but I can honestly say that I have never heard it. I suspect that it may be linked to trying to take corners too fast. I taxi my planes very slowly and deliberately, and never exceed 6-7 knots when negotiating (for example) 90 degree corners.

In the PMDG 737, the tyre sound of the nose wheel can only be heard if you take the corners with the aircraft too fast. Best is to stay <10 knots ground speed in corners and even less if the corner is 90°. Nevertheless, I cannot imagine that the noise from the nose wheel (if present) could be so loud in the cockpit. For sure that sound is annoying.

Chris

The way I avoid the tire scrubbing sound in most instances even at speeds higher than 10 knots is to start each turn using my rudder pedals and then apply the tiller.  I also use the rudder pedals exclusively to maintain the taxiway centerline when going straight.  With that said I generally don't make large turns at greater than 10 knots but by using the above I can make mostly noiseless turns on high-speed taxiways at greater than 10 knots.  YMMV though.

I completely understood what PMDG was trying to achieve with the tyre scraping sound and appreciate it actually as it keeps the pilot mindful of their cornering speed. The problem is that the sound seems too abrupt and does not appear to offer any wide granularity between approaching the adhesion limit and full on burning nose gear rubber on the tarmac.

for me the sounds as the  baseline recordings are good. However in my humble opinion they need to be finessed a bit more.

Are these sound comparisons based on real-life (738) operational experience? Or? No judgement...truly curious.

Opening a whine bar in MSFS2024.

Pretty sure they are from IRL just like his Triple 7 sounds.

You are not supposed to land a 737 manually with AT on. Disconnect it as soon as you disconnect the AP.
