HEADS UP! the latest MSFS Sim Update 5 beta has broken, FSFO, BATC and Chaseplane for me.

BATC is working fine for me.

With what models? Tried using BATC and AIG models and I can see them much more far away.

I'm using AIG models with BTAC and landing gear is still vanishing for me.

I have no idea why the humidity slider has been removed

Probably because it did nothing. It hasn't done anything since the sim launched.

  • Hi folks, I saw a few questions earlier in this thread about this release note: Removed weather panel humidity slider since humidity is no longer used. We followed up with the Asob

You comment away all you want Ken.  Don't let people shut you down.  They just want to live in their own echo chamber and constantly use straw man arguments and insults to try to make you feel ashamed

  • A lot of good stuff in this beta though I was hoping we would see some effort towards fixing ATC and AI aircraft behaviour which should really have been sorted this long after release.

@scotchegg come on, you have been using MSFS for years, by now you know that anything in the beta forums gets the most traction and gets faster attention when it is upvoted, right?

As I said, weather and atmosphere (which includes humidity) bugs and wishlist items have sat at or near the top of the lists for several years with no traction at all, so in this case I’m afraid that no, I don’t agree that another new thread or bug or wishlist item will get any traction or faster attention. Grumbling on Avsim is just as effective.

Edit; in fact I’m not sure there are any wishlist items at all in the SU notes this time?

What I’m most excited about on this update is the claim that those annoying white lines on water tiles are gone. Can anyone can confirm this because I’m not opting into this beta. If true, this would be huge because it’s been an issue since 2020!

The bottom line for me is that performance is way better in this new beta. Which is important in VR where so many pixels are being used.

There are other folks who say performance is down for them in the beta. Consensus is that performance is a lot better. In this thread and especially in the official forum thread.

SU3 beta, SU4 beta: performance was way up on my system in the early betas, but when the official update was later released performance sank. I expect the same thing to happen in this update cycle. There are far fewer people in the beta than in the official SU4. I think that's the reason, although I'm not sure why.

I don't know how to test white lines on the water.

Wow...really?  I have the opposite issue which is the infinite visibility at all times in Live weather outside of snow/rain situations. The only time I have noticed this strange haze is in some of the presets, especially looking towards the sun but I rarely use them.

Yes really.  I'm mostly referring to near field haze and TBH it may well be more my LCD screen w/ its backlight.  I'm comparing what I see on my display to what I see in the RW with my eyes and to me it looks like too much haze when looking at objects and scenery not far away.  The so-called infinite visibility you refer to I appreciate, but it doesn't bother me near as much as what I describe as near field haze.  One of these days I would love to view an OLED screen w/ MSFS running on it though I'm told once I do I won't want my otherwise nice LG Ultragear 34" curved display!

I’ve seen them around the Caribbean, near Auckland and Santa Monica beach — from my memory.

When I see a comment like "performance is way better in this beta", I worry that Asobo have removed something rather than fixed it.

99% of the time when I use Live weather, which is always, it's too hazy.

One of the reasons I recently started using MSFS2024 again is because the unlimited visibility skies all the time have gone.  Visibility is much more variable like it should be.  Visibility can even vary depending on the direction you are looking.  In the last few weeks I have yet to see a sky that is too hazy.  Sometimes, live weather visibility is really clear.

By default, MSFS2024 is too light, with an apparent 'haze/veil' plus is overly yellow tinted. I use Reshade with a very simple preset to dial out the yellow tint AND 'clear the air' - maybe it is this 'veil' you are referring to?  Reshade installs quickly - I use the preset 'SG Aviation NEXT 1.0

Default 2024
Microsoft_Flight_Simulator_2024_Screensh

Reshade with SG Aviation NEXT 1.0 preset
Microsoft_Flight_Simulator_2024_Screensh

Default 2024
Microsoft_Flight_Simulator_2024_Screensh

Reshade with SG Aviation NEXT preset
Microsoft_Flight_Simulator_2024_Screensh

Reshade with the preset
Microsoft_Flight_Simulator_2024_Screensh

The images may or may not display exactly the same as my monitor, but you will see the 'veil' I am referring to - might help with your perception of haze?

I haven't changed colour saturation or vibrance, but the Reshade images look more saturated because the preset has cleared this 'veil' I am referring to.

I was surprised too how fps had magically increased until I found the same as you: they changed my individual CUSTOM settings into MEDIUM.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

Was that the case with SU4?

mine stayed the same.

my VR settings were reset from CUSTOM back to MEDIUM after a crash of MSFS SU5, I assume it was caused by switching back and forth between 2D and VR during flight, it seems MSFS doesn't like that, FSLTL identified it correctly as "CTD ?"
