I made my first flight today on this marvelous rendition of the 114, a plane I enjoyed flying fifty years ago (!) across Europe. I made my first solo IFR night landing on this beast then, so fond memo

Impressions after my first flight (KMPI - KMYF). As I had thought I would, I went ahead with the old school avionics for my first flight, though I chose not to tackle the funky (in a good way!) RNAV r

It's crazy to me that people are now avoiding addons because the timing of an engine start is just a tiny bit off from real life. I'm just shocked. Maybe some of you need to get back into a real plan

Can you imagine the conversation between Nick and Boris (Audio Works):-

BORIS: "Sure, I can build a set of sounds for the Commander 114".

NICK: "Awesome, for the engine, I need the core engine sounds, with dedicated recordings in intervals of 50rpms .... don't want no phasing! Then for the props I want a set of slap sounds and chop sounds, again per 50rpms. Oh and for the engine, there are 58 different rough running effects - that each need dedicated source sounds per .... ahh, let's go easy and say every 100rpms for those (so just about 29 of each). Oh did I mention the new nosewheel shimmy sounds? They are different per the constituent angle of the nosewheel on touchdown, across a range of 60 degrees. And the pitch will need to change according to speed ..... oh and....."

BORIS: 😨

Joking apart, Boris deserves some serious appreciation for matching Nick's chronic innovation with sound sets that must take 100s of hours to put together! 😎

I've been playing the F5 refresh game, since 9am today 😄 I think from memory, JF releases tend to be later in the day; late afternoon.

I value you as the primary update notifier of everything I am interested in the sim, so I mind just kick back and wait for your post on here! 😆

I'm going to take a midday siesta soon 😴

It's actually too hot to fly today, unfortunately.

(plus, I'm supposed to be working).

You must be in the south 😁 Here in Durham in the North East of England it's cool and breezy, but a think layer at 3,000. A good opportunity to test the IFR equipment 😎

I was just admiring the many (real) Commander listings on the “Trade-a-Plane” site and looking at the various liveries and options.

Boy these little beasties look WIDE - it looks like they threw a couple of love seat couches in the front and back?

Even if it’s simulated and I’m really still sitting on my inflatable ball my wife got me to do “tummy exercises” that I instead use for flight simming, that wide seating feels (virtually) better than many cockpits, like comparing my wife’s Honda Civic to my relative boat of an Accord.

working

After a year of retirement that's starting to become a vague, if mostly pleasant memory now.

Low tide is in ten minutes and I'm heading off to the beach for a swim with the grandchildren followed by a pleasant evening flying my new Commander 114 - hopefully 😃

Yes but not immediately. Probably looking towards the end of next week.

Purchased and installing now. Woohoo! Will be a bit before I fly as I always like to get my controls set up first, and with Black Square planes that usually means some time in the manual deciphering Lvars. That's OK - it's part of the fun of a new aircraft!

Scott

It's up at Justflight, installed and ready for a test run now..

One quick circuit in the standard 114 and hand flying feels so right.

This must be in my top 10 aircraft even though I'm no fan of old electronics.

Now to sort out my hardware ; getting the autopilot to work should be fun.
