I was so frustrated watching that V1 video. I felt it was all about his 'flight' and not the plane. He knew very little about the product (for it to be the first pre-release video of it). As someone said, I personally think YouTubers like V1 should stick to airliners. I note there are quite a few comments on the video that express the same view as us.

EDIT: Just been back on the vid and he's deleted a ton of comments that gave critical feedback about the video (as the first pre-release vid of the 114). Including one polite, respectful comment from me; suggesting some ideas for GA streams; being fundamentally different to airliner leg streams).

Another sensitive YouTuber who can't cope with critical feedback.

Well , it’s going to be pretty hard to say no to buying that now.

I’ve not so much been critical of BS flight models I think all the aircraft are fantastic , but just while the systems and avionics are straight 10 out of 10 the flight modelling can sometimes feel as though it’s the weakest feature missing that indescribable magic somehow and “only” scoring 9.5 out of 10.

This sounds like it might just have found that missing 0.5, I look forward to finding out.

I watched most of V1’s stream and you are not being fair to him. I don’t want to thread drift but he openly admitted that it was a “first look” stream and he shared documents like the manual with the chat that are 150 pages long. I’m not sure why you need to be an expert on the plane to showcase it for viewers who might be interested in the aircraft. V1 has done more for the flight sim community than most so the shots against him are really not fair.

Wow! That last video from Nick (BS) was just plain sexy. I had no idea the Commander was so capable.

I appreciate if you're coming into this from the point of view of seeking out content on the new plane and unfamiliar with V1. It's easy to then have totally different expectations and misunderstand what kind of content V1 does. And I think in any case people, especially older generations, generally have this misunderstanding about the different content you get out there on youtube these days.

Like back in the old days (and I'd say those are my days) everything was a review and geared for informative content - you had long articles on Flightsim.com, videos were all factual impressions and well prepared, etc. And you get that stuff now - you have Into The Blue, Q8 Pilot, etc all doing this sort of stuff.

However, there are also different kind of streamers, and that's what V1 does. It's more of a hang out, basically more geared to entertainment. Hey let's see what sort of thing we can get into today sort of thing. He'll go and check out SayIntentions, or Black Square Commander 114, or the Falcon and usually the devs will pop up and offer help.

Sure, he does separate videos on specific topics, and stuff he's familiar with like A320 and 737s will be more in depth. But his live streams generally are more about community and just having fun with it. Not everyone's cup of tea I'm sure.

Like I said, I'm only bringing this up because I see totally different expectations that are applied to all the flight sim content out there and it's just not the reality.

For airliner operational videos, I agree. For GA, absolutely not. There are a number of elements about the new BS 114 that are big deals, and deserve good coverage. One of those is the first 100% functional simulation of the (quite rare) STEC 60-2 autopilot. V1's take on that? "So does thing have an autopilot?". I just expect better than that from the first feature video of the 114 on YouTube. I can think of a dozen FS content creators that would have done a little preparation and minor research about the new product - even some who are absolutely 'not my style'. He jumped in this aircraft like a content creator would jump in the default C172, to just 'take a flight'. The 114 deserved more.

Rather than anything particularly personal about the guy, I think it's just a case of the wrong guy for the job. A video on the Synaptic A220? Yep, I'd definitely watch V1's take on that.

Just my opinion.

Another interesting video with the even more interesting set of avionics it introduces. There's some stuff here that I've never seen before, and I've spent a fair bit of time in a wide variety of GA aircraft over the last few decades, both as pilot and passenger. New to me are the RNAV 511, the MC60 "Digital Localizer", the ILS 400 "Instrument Landing System" and the System 60-2 autopilot. Someone apparently mentioned the sameness of BS plane avionics choices, and Nick made it his mission to do some different stuff for this aircraft. He succeeded!

Looking forward to some "old school" navigation with some of these new/old toys!

As an aside, watching this video reminds me of how much uniqueness, for lack of a better word, we've lost in the GA fleet. Everything newer today features the same basic array of standardized screens and GPS units as pretty much every other plane, as do older planes that have been retro-fitted. When I first started flying, there was a much wider array of avionics, and checking out others' panels at fly-ins and airshows was a lot of fun.

Nope, not an "old man yells at clouds" comment, as the new stuff is great, and the "good old days" definitely had their downsides. Just an observation FWIW.
