I made my first flight today on this marvelous rendition of the 114, a plane I enjoyed flying fifty years ago (!) across Europe. I made my first solo IFR night landing on this beast then, so fond memo

I had almost forgotten that Commander Premier Aircraft Corporation was based at my home airport from 2005-2011. That was a company formed by the owners to provide parts and service for the Commanders. Pretty cool that we're getting a hi-fi version for a modern sim now.

I wasn’t interested in this addon until Nick demoed its aerobatics capability!!!

And then I realized that I’ve NEVER flown aerobatics in a GA aircraft…?😮😮😮

So I said, well, that’s easy stuff - hold my beer! 😎

And THEN I realized that “roll rate” is a very hazy concept for most GA addons 😂

So, yeah - I might need to add this one just for the giggles…

And trailing link gear 😁

So what are people going to fly first, the purist normally aspirated, or the punchy turbo? 😎

If I follow my usual approach taken with the Bonanza and Baron packs, it'll be N/A first for a few flights, so that I then get a buzz from the contrasting increase in punch that the turbo delivers!

The turbo, of course! While I fly all over the place these days, my preference is still for the US/Canadian mountain west, just as it was IRL when I was flying. Turbocharging is the way to go if you fly into a lot of high and hot places.

As for that punch - keep in mind that like the BS Bonanza (but unlike the BS turbocharged Baron) this is a turbo-normalized installation. Sea level performance will be the same as the non-modified, normally aspirated plane. High and hot is where the fun begins. 😃

The real question for me is which avionics package will I fly first. Will I load up my usual 750/650 combo or go old school with that funky RNAV system? With this plane, I'm definitely leaning old school.

I am like you...I always start with the more purist version first, so in this case the normally aspirated one. I just like to start easy and progress when learning something new.

AMD Ryzen 9900X3D & ASUS X870E Gaming Plus MB, w/64 Gb GSkill DDR5 RAM, ASUS TUF RTX 5090 GPU, lots of SSD's and M.2 drives, HAVN Case, Virpil VPC Panels 2 and 3, TM F/A 18 Stick on Virpil Base, Virpil Rotor TCS Plus w/ Hawk-60 Collective grip, Virpil MongoosTM Throttle, TM TPR Rudder pedals. Just keep in mind that this turbo version is turbo-normalized, so it doesn't actually make more power than the N/A one. It just keeps sea-level power (around 29.9 inches) all the way up to its critical altitude, instead of gradually losing it as you climb.

Yes, I know 👍 Personally I vastly prefer TN setups. So much less stress on the engine by not exceeding 31 inches MP. For me, turbo-charged aircrafts have always been about superb climb performance, all the way up. 😎

Same reason I “hate” watching A2A vids.

But BS is so productive it’s even more hazardous! 🤣
