When I first started flying it I thought some of the avionics were from the Apollo spacecraft LOL

So, it seems that this is a problem that has plagued some users with all Just Flight / Black Square installers. There are online reports of people getting it with the Starship, Duke and Bonanza installers. But I never had it before.

Anyway, it's a "long file path name" issue and I got around it by selecting "custom installation" within the installer, then installing the Commander 114 to my desktop. (This is a shorter file path, so the error does not occur).

You can then move it to the Community folder and all seems ok.

Used my BS Bonanza profile (SPAD.neXt) as a starting point, so config is going quickly. A few minor differences for some switches, most of which I've already sorted. Just about to start on the AP, as I agree... That might be the biggest challenge.

Have had one test flight of the conventional C114 & very impressed.

Sounds great in flight, smooth, & a very interesting dashboard of instruments.

Did you turn it off. From the Just Flight videos it would seem it would be better to just have the Black Square default sounds and vibrations and what not

There must be a secret to cold starting this thing that I haven't found yet.

Not seeing fuel flow when engaging the fuel pump but the EFB shows fuel in the cylinders and the fuel selector is not in the cut off position.

Right now spawning on a runway seems my only option.... frustrating but I love it.

Later:

After several restarts I managed to see some fuel flow and got the engine started after a prolonged push on the starter but my throttle control inverted. No more time left to play with this today but it seems buggier than most BS releases.

Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem. Change the value of LongPathsEnabled from 0 to 1

I actually did that already, to get the TFDI MD-11 installer to work, as I had the same long file path issue with that. I've just checked and the digit is set to '1' so I'm not sure why it didn't work in this case.

But it was easily worked around and my word, the BS Commander is something really special! 😎 Even small things like needing to put the ignition key into the slot just makes it so immersive. I've just been sitting in it, in the ground, playing with all the sound possibilities (running it too lean to hear the engine backfire etc!). Nick has knocked it out the park with this one, in terms of quality and innovation.

The single only squawk I have is that the AP altitude selector and vertical speed selector responds very slowly to the default key assignments, and sometimes misses presses. That maybe overcome if/when someone makes a AAO script for the 114; that binds to the actual LVARs used and not the defaults.

Everything else is just perfect and for a GA aircraft, it's a 10/10.

I've started it a few times already and it barks to life pretty quickly. Being fuel injected, priming is essential.

Here's my process :-

1. Turn on electrics, ensure fuel selector is set to both, left or right.

2. Push the throttle, prop and mixture full forward.

3. turn on the fuel pump for 1 thousand, 2 thousand, 3 thousand, 4 thousand, then turn off.

4. Pull the throttle back to cracked, 1/4 inch.

5. Turn the key to start.

Should start right up. Being fuel injected, it won't start when cold if not primed. Also check your fuel selector (centre ped) is definitely on.

Off to Just Flight to purchase, download and install! Nice to hear some good reports so far, but as a Black Square release I was not too worried. 😊
